Ok this got me stuck for an hour or so. You need to be at the home screen with the phone in download mode. Not the screen with the yellow droid guy. USB cable unplugged. Launch odin then plug the cable in and make sure odin recognizes the phone then you can hit master clear and it will do its glorious thing.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't know you could be in download mode and not at the droid guy screen. How do I do that. And what is the difference between hitting start and master clear anyway, thanks

Download mode is set in setting > applications > development > usb debugging.

Sorry thought most people knew that with usb debugging on it refered to download mode.

This is also the setting you need enabled to use ADB.

Master Clear completely wipes the phone of all data. Start just flashes back to the stock att rom.

I can't figure out for the life of me.. and I have yet to find a thread that explains how you are supposed to use Odin.. Other than the 1 click installer..

I can get it to detect my phone but it always tells me to check image files when I click start. wtf does that mean.

*WARNING THIS **WILL** DELETE ALL YOUR FILES STORED ON YOUR SDCARD - ALWAYS DO A FULL BACKUP TO YOUR PC*

I know this is a dead thread but if someone google's it and needs a quick answer (that's how I found out) then here's a quick step by step:

1.) - Download the final JF6 (2.1) OneClick here - http://www.thevod.org/misc/captivate/I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0.rar

2.) Do not put your phone into "download" mode (yellow android guy digging)

3.) Make sure your phone is in "debug" mode - Settings > Applications > Developement > USB Debugging

4.) Open Odin and connect your USB - DO NOT MOUNT YOUR SDCARD

5.) Odin should see your phone as Port 12 (most likely). Just hit Master Clear and let the phone reboot. It may take 2-3 minutes.

PS - The link above is for JF6 (2.1 Eclair). If you want JI6 (2.2) you can download it here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797282
