Update odin

OK I tried ODIN yet again in VirtualBox on Mac using XP and it took like 15-20 minutes after m5 check to unfreeze. But it failed.... i cant copy and paste the message from VMB. But the phone says secure check fail: recovery. And ODIN says NAND write start then fail.

Based on what Samsung told you I'd day you have nothing to loose by trying to get it running.

You know, I only use ODIN when I absolutely have to so my level of expertise is limited. Sorry man, any recommendations at this point would be guess work on my part and might make things worse for you.

ODIN is supposed to be an easy software made for Samsung devices. Unless someone has TWRP installed to flash roms this is the only other way and to reset to stock thats all it's used for oh and to flash kernals as well. Everything else can be thru TWRP or CMW. I have a backup in TWRP. :)

Yeah it's easy enough, it just doesn't always play nice with other devices.

UPDATE Returned to stock...

@jpcalhoun @das7982 I was able to successfully flash stock firmware and return to stock. Now after unchecking reactivation lock in settings i will now try to flash the rescue file that @das7982 provided! :) I'm soo happy! Thanks for all your help and assistance. If i cant get rescue file to do this then i'll just go and restore custom recovery flash root files from the following thread from wehn i first got the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2746586

Man it just put more stress on me. I'm in process of planning a trip and moving so this was even more pressure i didnt need lol! Well i hope i helped you understand ODIN as well more. It looks like i have to wait 15-20 minutes for it to always unfreeze and process. But at least i can do this off my mac thru a VM. I learn new things everyday. :) Plus can pass it onto others.

@jpcalhoun @das7982 I'm reading that once boot loader is locked it can't be fixed? I sent it out to samsung today as they told me otherwise. So i'm a bit worried now. http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s5-developer-edition-verizon-now-available
Someone on this forum stated that he had talked to Samsung Technical Support and they told him that if the phone is returned they (Samsung) would return the phone back to the original state, or words to that effect. So, keep your fingers crossed. Good luck.

I've been searching fourms for the answers and currently in process of asking someone who had the same issue but with a S4 Dev Ed. they better put it back the way it was otherwise i just wasted $643! I was told i locked it by accident trying to run JODIN on Mac supposedly. I hope next time i run ODIN (thru windows) i wont have this issue again when i go to restore twrp and SU!

In this case/circumstance, I won't trust a Mac, you're better off doing it on a Windows computer.

I'll be making a tutorial shortly on how to run ODIN on Mac thru a virtual machine called VirtualBox. :) It worked although restored it to a factory stock retail state. I was able to compose a few messages to contacts before doing factory data reset and sending the phone out today. It was a stock tar file i had to use since rescue package wouldnt work due to locked bootloader.

boot loop can't flash rescue

I made a data dump backup of all important partitions needed to rescue your phone except for the bootloader.....these are phone specific due to a bootloader unlock key. You can locate all of these images using the link below.

I also created an ODIN flash-able rescue .tar in case you find yourself in a boot loop or other bricked state. This ODIN file contains a Stock rooted system image, stock boot image, and TWRP custom recovery. The name of this file is "GS5-DEV_VZWSTOCK_Rooted.tar.md5.7z" and it can be found by clicking the link below.

TWRP For their awesome recovery

Files include:

Main OS
system.img
recovery.img
boot.img

Radios
Modem.bin

ODIN Rescue FIle
GS5-DEV_VZWSTOCK_Rooted.tar.md5.7z

+Unpack ODIN File using 7zip
+Flash using ODIN 3.07 in PDA section
+This will recover your phone back to a bootable state
+After flashing this via ODIN jump into TWRP recovery and wipe cache
+Reboot and you should be back to normal
+If you continue to have issues or force closing jump into TWRP and factory reset

Download Here

If you found this rescue image useful and want to buy me a beer the link is below...
Thanks to those who have donated already. :)

I just want to get it to factory resset, and start from zero again. I have the verizon S5 Dev edition.

Hey just letting you know I also had bricked my S5 DE several days ago due to reactivation lock being enabled. I forgot to uncheck it when i went to do a simple regular system backup. JODIN for Mac i was told screwed my device up and PIT. I was able to flash the stock tar file and turn off the reactivation lock setting at least. But you now have a locked bootloader and a retail consumer version S5. What I did is talked to Samsung support over the phone. They said they reset phones to factory state weather in/out of warranty free of charge. Contact them and they will help you. They don't care if it's under custom when booted up. It takes up to 11 days from when your phone is sent to when you will receive it. I'll be getting mine back next week.
