Asking one more time:

Can someone explain what the deal is with these odin versions? How Are they modified? Are they patched to not check/require the signature file inside stock roms? What are the advantages of using these vs other odin versions, like official stock, or prince comsy (if you are familiar)?

If the manufacturer produces new releases, then there are reasons for that. In general, this is insider’s matter. I took risks, given that this is my first use of Odin. But I wanted to try the latest version. As a result, I flashed Root, did not receive a brick and did not catch the viruses. It is in this I see the advantage of 3.3.12.10 version

Is your bootloader unlocked? How did you "flash root"? Can I flash modified system.img.ext4 with this version? Can I do efs repair? I can do both of these things with comsey odin, but it's starting to show it's age and I fear in the near future a new device will not be compatible

Dear partcyborg, it is not clear to me, why you ask your question in this branch, instead of in <https://xdaforums.com/verizon-galaxy-s8>. If your device was lighted here, you would see at once it in your profile branch.
As to me. I’ve got an old device, and I operate by for a long time fulfilled algorithm. Motive of a choice Odin 3.3.12.10 absolutely clear - I wished to use the newest version. Though could use easy version 3.3.0.7 with the same success. I am guided by a specialised resource <4pda.ru> in which all software is rigidly adhered to concrete model

I'm sorry, I don't quite follow. My question was by what method do you use odin to flash root. Do you modify boot and flash? Flash a modified system.img.ext4? Some other method?

I am not sure how that would be even relevant to a Verizon s8 specific forum? Nevermind the fact that the carrier specific s8 sections are a ghost town.

I’ve got Android 4.4.2 KiteKat, but I have to pass to the version 5.X.X or above. The matter is that my basic working program has undergone an upgrade and it is not supported any more by Android 4. Algorithm long enough, but first of all it is necessary to get Root. For this goal I have applied Odin3 to the file CF-Auto-Root-t03g-t03gxx-gtn7100.tar.md5. As a result I became utilities SuperSu and KNOX, and some programs began to request the Root. Further I will do .efs backup, to establish CWM or TWRP and, at last, to flash CyanogenMod 12.1. Here somehow so. At the forum <4pda.ru> all is in detail painted, but many things are taken from here, from <xda-developers.com>

Motorola Edge+ (2022)
I was looking for a way to flash the ROM using official Odin.
Asking for eta on updates is clearly against the rules here.

---------- Post added at 03:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:16 PM ----------

Latest Odin does not work with Galaxy S8 (SM-G950F) and Galaxy S8+ (SM-G955F) official ROM (G955FXXU1CRAP/G950FXXU1CRAP) as Samsung started using lz4 compression on their images. Should we expect updated Odin soon?
Meant to quote this one. Relax dude, it happens when it happens.

Sorry, I did not realize it might have sounded like I was asking for ETA. I just wanted to know whether Samsung has already released a new Odin version and we are just waiting for new 'leak'.

Strange behavior from odin

I flashed my samsung note 4 just now, stock rom because the stock was lagging.
I expected it to erase everything, data, apps etc (no sd card inserted).

I do the normal flash, it says completed, i boot up my phone, low and behold everything is still there.
To me this does not make sense, what happened ?

(flashing for the second time as we speak)

Did not have re-partition on. -.-" shame on me.

If you want to wipe all data you have to use factory wipe rom (4 files). To get factory rom you can use samfirm tool. Fill right info and check binary nature then download 4 files firmware.

Can confirm the new odin (3.13.1) flashed the files successfully without having to unpack the new compression algorithm.

Odin is a utility software developed and used internally by Samsung which can be used to flash a Custom Recovery firmware image (as opposed to the Stock recovery firmware image) to a Samsung Android device. It is also used as a way of unbricking an Android device. There is no account of Samsung ever having officially released it, and is believed to be the result of an unintentional leak.
Odin is Windows only software, providing no support for other operating systems, though it is possible to use Wineskin on the Odin executable, allowing it to run on OS X.
