Scared to give it a shot on my daily phone

And btw I think this is the only way to unlock bootloader which replaces whole partition of bootloader. We need to atleast try it we just need someone with skills, knowledge, and dying to unlock the bootloader. If Verizon read this I'm sure there gonna patch this too.

Note: if you want to try this com.android.phone is a system app if you know what you're doing then yeah.

Has anyone tried this.
After deleting com.android.phone on adb you said that OEM unlocking is tickable but it won't unlock on bootloader try this after ticking the OEM unlocking try to do an ota update via adb (latest one) after that don't boot the phone to system boot it to bootloader then try to unlock it.

P.s. btw to restore the com.Android.phone just do a factory reset ( I recommend hard reset ).

That's not a bad idea. Or do s whole factory reset.

Anyone try removing the carrier provisioning app too. I know removing phone will get it to tick, but gf won't let me mess her phone up anymore. I was exploring hers to my pixel 3 xl unlocked variant of the phone. Hers is Verizon and has an app called carrier provisioning service which gives carrier rights over the phone basically. Can implement things that are carrier based. Now mine being unlocked doesn't have that and the way explain the way that app to work, sounds like a way for them to lock and relock the bootloader even with phone app gone. I know I have had the same fastboot experience of ticking it on, and getting it to stay until fastboot command. Then it will grey itself out. Sometimes even before on just a reboot. Just a thought I saw that app and was like, hmm, maybe..

As its core, the provisioning process monitors access rights and privileges to ensure the security of an enterprise's resources and user privacy. As a secondary responsibility, it ensures compliance and minimizes the vulnerability of systems to penetration and abuse. As a tertiary responsibility, it tries to reduce the amount of custom configuration using boot image control and other methods that radically reduce the number of different configurations involved.

No, I'm not nearly qualified, it just sounded like a good suggestion after reading what it does. "Boot image control and other methods" seems like something that would be related to the bootloader.....

--- I don't believe removing the carrier provisioning app would brick a phone, maybe require a data reset at the worst.

Edit: I went ahead and deleted it. Nothing changed.

The name of the package is: com.android.omadm.service

I believe if someone wanted to try an uninstall it its;

Connect Phone via USB
Open prompt:

C:\ADB>adb shell

taimen:/ $ pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.omadm.service

It would have to be done before it connects to the tower during a fresh install. Anything that that package is going to do is going to be already done on an active phone. They were discussing it earlier. I'm a Lyft driver so I rely on my phone for income, I'm not going to be the one to monkey around with it. It's not just my daily driver it's my bread and butter.

I agree with this. If you were going to try it, it should be tried after a factory reset with the Sim card removed. Also with all security like pin, fingerprint, pattern, etc. along with your Google account removed. Also I would have disabled the phone app along with omadm. Maybe I'll mess around with it later as well

Lol so do I. And I decided to wait. But you should know there are some of us that have tried this approach and ended the same miserable way. But everything is always worth a try

While restoring the IMEI using a backup / restore solution/workaround, SIM unlock guides / workarounds, are not getting in conflict with our Forum Rules, changing the IMEI or other methods that may trigger legal issues is to be avoided.

of course, once you unlock your bootloader, you can do whatever you want
tried the file deletion and hard reset phone + file removal and going back and forward, no dice still locked
running latest update of Q beta
if it weren't for the fact the phone came in original box with 0 defects I would return it, think I'm going to sell it and try and get a refurbished taimen from amazon,
