lol...the bootloader for the Moto Z and Moto Z Force CANNOT be unlocked...

Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
is this a fact or is it because the phone is so new that nobody is working on it yet? Is there any hope for the future or is it because its a Verizon only phone?
I'm coming from a Droid Razr M running CM12. Other than flashing and updating my XT907, I have not kept up with newer phones. I've been really spoiled with the unlocked bootloader on my old phone.

It's 100% fact as of right now...I have no idea if anyone is even trying to work on cracking this bootloader...

The fact that it's VZW only right now certainly hurts the chances of it ever happening...I'm coming from a Droid Turbo...that phone was unlocked like over a year after release...

I don't believe the Turbo 2 has been unlocked at all...

There is always a chance...but it's slim

I understand people saying it can't but the nosey part of me wants to know what steps were taken or who. I read on Motorola site about unlocking bootloader but it breaks the warranty. I would be interested in seeing how far I could get. Right now I'm still within 2 week period before returning phone. I have Verizon because my employer gets a discount. I'm used to rooting my phone's & VZW is killing my vibe. Lol. I tried the Motorola because my G5 had not had any progress yet with rooting.

- Don't waste your time trying to get an unlock code from Motorola, they won't be giving it to you

- if you're expecting root or a bootloader unlock before you're 2 week return period, you might as well return it now...not gonna happen.

- I'm fairly confident one of the devs will figure it out, but I wouldn't count on it ANY time soon

No I like the Moto but I will probably swap it for the Z Force. I love the cam on my G5 and I need something comparable. I just have more hope that the Moto will see root before my VZW G5. But I could be wrong.

I walked into a VZW corporate store a week or two back, and played around with the Moto Z Droid. I went into Settings --> About Phone and tapped on the Build number enough times to open up the developer settings menu. Under Developer Settings, there's a switch to "Unlock Bootloader". I toggled it from off to on, and the phone seemed happy enough before I left.

I do realize that this toggle under developer settings may mean nothing and may do nothing to actually unlock the bootloader - just relating what I saw.

I did ask the retail guy if it was for real, of course he didn't know, but when I asked him why VZW was so anal about locked bootloaders when they sell Nexus devices - he said that he thought attitudes were finally changing there.

It does nothing, and has been in the developer options since at least lollipop

Ah. No surprise as it did seem way too simple. Oh well.

FWIW, I've been messing around with Android phones for a long time, and haven't seen that option before (for example, it's not on my old HTC One when running CM12 or any CM13 variant).

Must be the fact that Moto uses such a stock version of Android?...it was there in the options for my Droid Turbo from 2014...
Same here. I definitely don't see that option on my G5 Developer Options.

It must be something that some OEM's remove from the menu, or its only included when you're running stock, or very close to stock Android like Moto does...

http://www.droid-life.com/2014/11/0...nable-oem-unlock-option-in-developer-options/

As you can see it was added to the developer options as of version 5.0

It's not real...just a custom boot logo

My unlocked Moto Z just came in yesterday in the mail. I pre ordered it from the Moto website, and it came in a few days earlier than expected. After enabling developer options, you can see that the OEM unlocking is turned off by default, but you can just swipe to enable it.

I comprehend individuals saying it can't however the nosey piece of me needs to recognize what steps were taken or who. I read on Motorola site about opening bootloader yet it breaks the guarantee. I would be occupied with perceiving how far I could get. At this moment I'm still inside 2 week time frame before returning telephone. I have Verizon in light of the fact that my boss gets a rebate. I'm accustomed to establishing my telephone's and VZW is murdering my vibe. Lol. I attempted the Motorola in light of the fact that my G5 had not had any advance yet with establishing.

Cant submit links, but on moto site you can unlock moto z.

Found this on moto website, do i understand correctly when unlocked there will be a wipe ?
If unlocked, if you flash it with recovery image it will be locked again ?
No warranty problem than any more ? or perhaps via serialnumber ?

Interresting for dev, nougat preferred ;)
