This is my feeling too.
What recovery should i try?
I tried flashing dual 2.8.10 but it didn't install.
go back to stock 4.4.4 instal a kitkat ftf file with flashtool then root and install other recovery (i used nut dual recovery) and then flash the 5.0.2 from here over stock 4.4.4 do a factory reset from settings menu then install the latest recovery from nut and done :)

Sorry if this is a daft question, I am currently running [ROM][C69xx][.157][LB/UB]DstrikerZ1 Kai ROM 5.0 [Z3 meets MATERIAL DESIGN][19-Feb] Locked Bootloader. Is this "stock ROM" with not having new kernel etc so I can just flash this over the top through TWRP or do I have to find and flash a basic KK ROM then this?
This is a stock based rom and if you flash 5.0.2 you have a big chance to get a lot of bugs because that rom has some mods that will be broken when you flash 5.0.2 . You should install a clean 4.4.4 and then update to 5.0.2

Seems it was a corrupted download.
Re-downloaded and successfully installed.
Root is working, but i have another issue.
Ended-up in a bootloop after installed xposed and enabled a couple of modules.
I thought it was because of xposed so i did a wipe and rebooted.
Re-configured everything except for xposed framework, did a nandroid backup and....... bootloop again.
The only thing i can think of is AdAway. Enabling it was the last thing i did on the device.
Anyone experienced similar issues?
Thanks!

download was corrupted? Yeah. As I told you...

Xposed isn't working properly with odexed rom. So you have to wait for deodexed roms or xposed updates.

Do yourself a favor and do some reading before flashing. It's an expensive device in your hands... ;)

I knew that, and i did it on my own risk.
However, the second bootloop didn't have anything to do with xposed. I didn't install it.
The only thing i did was to apply AdAway.
Anyone experienced issues with AdAway?
Thanks!

Late edit. Not related to AdAway.
As soon as i take a backup it ends up in the bootloop.
Reverting to 4.4.4 until i find a stable release.

Installation lasts couple of seconds - no success

I downloaded the zip twice. I am on .157 Kitkat. I have TWRP, not sure if its multiboot or not.
When I flash it, the installation process only lasts a second. Says installation successful but it does nothing at all. No error messages except a warning message of sorts - skipping md5 check. No md5 file found. I have tried it through Clockwordmod and Philz recovery as well. Same messages. I downloaded the zip twice. The downloaded checksum is a1a7a4396be1972fd727495d52b09f3c

Any idea what's wrong?

Edit: Solved!!! I had DualRecovery 2.7 BETA. I upgraded that to 2.8 and its working now. Sorry for skipping that step.

Anyway . Did you do a factory reset? The reset fixed root problem for me .
Sorry okay I was only having fun as I am an SMO myself ;)

Factory reset will take away all my data :p
How can I make a current nandroid backup ??
And will this current backup mean when I restore it after the factory reset, my root will be lost again?

If you want a nandbackup you need to flash the recovery again (if you didn't )
You could do a backup from the sony app backup&restore and save it on a sd card . you can backup this way app+data and restore it back after reset.

I think you will loose root again because you will restore the systeam as it was .

Other fix , try to flash the last superuser in recovery maybe it will fix it .

tnx mate for your method. my phone was on 108 rooted stock. and what i've done was
1)downloaded supersu flashable zip
2)backup whole phone (kernel,system,data,etc..)
3)wiped all caches
4)flashed 5.0.2 pre rooted
5)wiped caches
6)flashed supersu flashable zip
7)boot into system
8)installed recovery by pc
it was dirty install and didn't factory reset but no problem so far and root works like a charm
