I'm still running my Note 3 on KitKat 4.4.2 (stock, but rooted and with a custom kernel) as I really don't like Material Design very much and KitKat has worked just fine for me so far. However there are a number of apps that I use where their latest versions no longer support it, so I now need to upgrade to Android 5+.

I could just go down the heavily modded 6/7 ROMs route, but as this is my daily use device I want everything to work 100% (including camera, high-rez audio, NFC, etc) and the further I get from stock the more likely I am to encounter issues.

So I've downloaded the latest BTU from sammobile (this month's N9005XXSGBPL6_N9005BTUGBOJ1_BTU, but feel free to suggest a better or more recent option if you know of one that's 100% reliable) however I wanted to ask a couple of questions first:

1) Although this is a stock Samsung upgrade, I assume I would be better doing a full clean wipe before installing? I would love to be able to do a dirty install and save myself a lot of time setting up the device again, but I'm not sure if that's feasible or not.

2) Will that Samsung ROM include replacing the kernel? I doubt the one I've been using with KitKat is compatible with 5+ (and I no longer need its special features), so if not could someone point me to a matching stock kernel if I need one.

3) Will installing this via Odin remove root? Simple enough to reinstall if I need to I assume. Obviously Knox has long since ceased to be a warranty issue. :)

4) Similarly I assume I'll need to reinstall TWRP via Odin (presumably once I've first booted up the new ROM).

Thanks, and sorry for all the questions - I've done this multiple times in the past on various devices, but not for the last few years as the stock Note 3 ROM has worked just fine for me so I'm a bit rusty!

Howdy y'all,

I'm going to revert my n9005 to stock, but Samsung is being odd and releasing newer firmware with older security patch dates.. which is just confusing.
I can't seem to sort by security patch date on Sammobile, can somebody please help and point me to the firmware with the newest released security patch?

Thanks a ton.

It seems that only firmwares for PHE and LUX regions have the largest changeset (9073885) and newest security patch dates (01.09.2016).
I would probably use this one: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note3/SM-N9005/PHE/download/N9005XXSGBPL2/166864/

I have the international version, SM-N9005. I am using the phone on T-Moibile USA. Do I need to flash a US version of the firmware or will the latest version from any country be ok?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Hello
I have a note 3 on which I had ported the note 7.
The phone has since only given me problems. I thought the problem was related to porting and so I put it back on my phone, android 5.0.
The problems are still there, sometimes it warms up, sometimes it just goes off, and is no longer responsive. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you all

Sorry for late reply, but after you have flashed the firmware you should go to recovery mode and wipe data and cache. Then you can boot back.

    Important Note:
If you come from Kitkat 4.4.2 rom, it is highly recommend to make a Factory Reset:
After flashing the firmware, Go to Settings. Then, go to the General tab. Click on Backup and reset, then Factory data reset, then RESET DEVICE. Because all of the codes in Android has changed in lollipop, and factory reset, will make it work smoothly and wihout any problems.
BE CAREFUL, YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA ON YOUR PHONE. BACK UP EVERYTHING FIRST.

    Pit File:

if some one comes from leaked lollipop rom, this pit file is for him/her.
This file makes the system partition large enough to accept the rom.
if you come from official 4.4.2 kitkat rom, so you won't need this!
