Latest firmware will probably be OK. For a long time I simply used latest firmware, but a while ago I had the 'error 7' issue when updating my ROM. Advice was to downgrade my firmware to the stated version 8.4.19, after that I didn't have any issue updating my ROM. Try it out, if you have errors thrown at you during a LineageOS install, install the recommended firmware. If not, you'll be OK.

I installed the latest, got error 7, had to edit updater script and now camera isnt working and fingerprint fails to enroll.
I think latest miui will not work well, xiaomi added something.

I installed FW 8.8.16 as a test for now, and fingerprints work but not camera, couldn't there be a newer better firmware? as 8.4.19 is kinda old.

I used a Google Cam version when I was still on this ROM. Worked fine. Which cam are you using?

As far as I know, this is simply how LineageOS works. You just have weeklies or nightlies, depending on the device. Mostly it's fine and nothing breaks. However, I moved to the unofficial LineageOS 16, and I'm looking it so far.

I seriously have no clue, just be warned that our maintainer, Cozzmy, has sold his Mi6 a few months ago, so this thread doesn't have an OP. I have gone over to unofficial LineageOS 16 by NeoArian. The last few builds cost some effort because of all the ruckus caused by the MIUI Pie blobs, before that ( before May) it was rock solid! And probably will be again when he irons out the kinks.
