Somebody on another forum posted this. I can answer 1 or 2 of these but would like the answers from XDA members

Okay so my S3 is THR region ( Iran )( I9300XXBLH1 ) and I am still on 4.0.4. Now I have downloaded 4.1.2 of BTU region ( UK )( I9300XXELL4 ) for International Version of S3 . Its File name is " Samsung-Updates.com-GT-I9300-BTU-KIES-1355126923.zip " . I am planning to flash my S3 using Odin according to various tutorials available on internet. As this is the first time I am going to do such an act I have a few questions.

1 . Is Flashing going to void my warranty ?
2. My region is THR and the Firmware region is BTU, does it effect anything ? or they both should be I9300XXBLH1?
3. Any other things that i need to look into or is only flashing the firmware good enough like any modem firmwares or things like that ? I am not sure I think i read this somewhere . something called CSS i guess .. :s !
4. Almost every tutorial has the same instruction, Unzipping the firmware > Putting S3 in download mode > Odin to flash .
Is it that simple or is it made to look simple ?

Any help, tips or links are useful. I have the firmware and Odin, now just waiting for your advice

What is the difference between ELL4 & ELL5? On samfirmware there is a unbranded 4.1.2 Rom for Switzerland (ELL4) and a Swisscom branded Rom (ELL5). Of course I prefer the unbranded Rom, but is there a reason to choose the branded rom because of its newer tag?

Hey, everyone! Sorry it took me so long to flash ELL5! I was waiting for an unbranded ELL5 but we only got ELL4! :(

So, I came from the Polish ELKC. I didn't wipe before flashing the German (VD2) ELL5. So, smoothness may vary if you've wiped! Here are my impressions:

Changes:
1) Carrier branded applications: AppSelect, Discover, joyn, MyWeb, Music app, etc. They can all be disabled/uninstalled!
2) Gallery: Gallery gets a new animation when you back out of an album. It's not as smooth as it should be. Gallery also gets a new animation for when you delete images. Looks slick!
3) Contacts/Phone: There's a new dimming animation when you switch between Phone and Contacts. Not really something that we needed.
4) S Memo: Do I detect new animations when you open a note and delete one?

Negatives/Unresolved issues:
1) Home button to prevent screen timeout still tied to S-Voice.
2) Video Player slide to change brightness/volume is still frustrating to use.
3) Widgets drawer still lags.
4) Multitasking with games is still broken.
5) Launcher still redraws. Though only if you're a heavy multi-tasker or if you clear RAM.
6) One finger expandable notifications are still not present.
7) Contacts/Phone still takes forever to open.
8) Multi-tasker sometimes forgets an open app (especially if you've just minimized it).
9) Shadows on icons in app drawer sometimes re-draw when you minimize/close an app.

All-in-all, not a big update. They've just added a few animations here and there. That's not something they should be focusing on, I think. I wouldn't recommend upgrading if you're happy with your current firmware. The ROM is still as smooth as ELKC.

Enjoy! :)

sir,
can you tell me maybe a little bit, difference between branded and unbranded Carrier?(is that related to ota updates?)
can i flash the XXELL5 on my hh, my country is indonesia, and i'll using XXELL5 which from germany, will that be the problems.?
and for either branded and unbranded carrier, should i change the csc to my country csc code?
(i know, basically need to change csc code for custom rom, but in this case..?)

branded you got apps from the operator, sometimes you got boot logo from that operator...meanwhile unbranded u got clean room without apps from operator...
yes u can flash it and will not be a problem...the only problem is, if u wanna claim warranty of your phone u must flash to the original room from your country...
no need to change csc code....

I9300XXELL4 Download (Thanks To SamMobile!)
Base Firmware: I9300XXELL4 (4.1.2)
Region: Europe
Country: United Kingdom
Carrier: Unbranded
Build Date: 10 December 2012
Modem: XXELL4
CSC: OXAELL4
Change List: 566833

I take it this is the latest stock unbranded firmware

I just noticed something when I had a look at Sammobile

The link they provide for the latest same CSC and everything as above is
I9300XXELL4_I9300OXAELL4_BTU.zip

While the one provided above is
I9300XXELL4_I9300OXAELL4_I9300XXELL4_BTU.zip

File name is different and the file size is different as well by 1.6mb

Anyone noticed this and whether it's anything different?
Which should I download?

well, thank's..:)
i bought my hh from malaysia, so when want to reclaim warranty, i just need to flash the original rom for malaysia, right?
is that it need the first original rom (ICS)?
or can be JB rom?
at first i'm kinda afraid that flashing branded fw like XXELL5 from vodafone will mess the signal and connection on my country, or sth like that.

i read on some other thread, they said that branded firmware mostly will bring bloatware app, while unbranded will remove those bloatware..
maybe that was reason people want the unbranded one, since it will get a fresh and smooth rom.

btw, csc basically, when we ll need to change csc code, beside when using custom ROM?

Poland Rom and Australia CSC

Hi,

Have just flashed my rom with the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Poland release rom...

It runs great.

I then flashed the XXDLID modem as it seems to work better.

My question is about the CSC. It does not have the XSA CSC. I current;y have it set to the UK CSC but...

1. How can i get the correct CSC when it doesn't exist when youing the CSC Select app?

2. Do i need to change it?

Any and ALL help would seriously be greatly appreciated!!

PS: Merry Christmas

Hi.I am on Wanam 5.2 based on LL5.Yesterday on a visit to Germany I had to make a call, when entering 0049..... in the keypad after 8 to ten numbers automatically backslash is being generated, can only be removed after entering the complete phone number.Anybodody from Germany and /or Vodafone recognizes this ? I tested with different countrycodes, only get backslashes when using 0049.

1)Yes. just flash the original ROM. It doesn't matter if it's ICS or JB.
2) The new firmware will not mess up your signal. Don't worry!
3) Yes, branded firmwares have even more bloatware than stock ROMs.
4) No need to change CSC. CSC gives you APN settings for MMS and stuff. Change your CSC if mobile data or MMS or GPS lock are bothering you. It will factory reset your phone so beware! :)

Read back a few pages but not seeing this one; has anyone else noticed the Gallery forgetting name tags every so often? Every other day if I open the new application after tagging people in photos it will again ask "is this XXXX?". The strange bit being it seems to recognise them perfectly, just lost the yes/not part.

ELL4 BTU CSC.

Not a real problem but I'd like to know if it is just me somehow.

I was on the German MR2 and I just flashed the BTU MC2. No wipe. Contacts and Contacts Storage data will need to be wiped for those coming from MR2.
Those of you coming from MB5 or MC1 might not notice these differences.

    Differences:
    1. Camera: Camera starts up faster.
    2. Gallery: Pictures load up faster and pressing the back button results in a slightly faster and smoother animation.
    3. Touchwiz: Even after clearing RAM numerous times, Touchwiz is staying in memory.
    4. Recent Apps Tab: In landscape mode, the three choices now have their names next to them (Remove All, Google Now, Task Manager).
    5. Cloud: The Cloud option is missing from Settings.
    6. Gaming: Does anyone else notice slightly smoother frame rates? NFS Most Wanted definitely seems smoother.

    Issues That May Be Resolved:
Here are some issues that may have been resolved but I cannot know for certain until I test the ROM out for a few days.
    1. Shadow redraws: Shadow redraws on app-drawer icons aren't occurring yet.
    2. Recent Apps Tab: It doesn't seem to be forgetting the most recently opened application.
    3. Touchwiz: The launcher is staying in memory.

    Negatives/Unresolved Issues/Bugs:
    1. Home button to prevent screen timeout still tied to S-Voice.
    2. Widgets drawer still has the initial loading lag.
    3. Multitasking with games is still broken. You can't run two or more medium/heavy games in the background. One of them eventually restarts (if not instantly).
    4. One finger expandable notifications are not present.
    5. Contacts and Phone don't open instantaneously.
    6. When recording a video, left and right audio is switched.
    7. During Pop-up Play, clear type text is turned off and you can see jagged edges everywhere.

    Recommended or not?:
Yes. If you're on MR2, it is definitely time to update. Those coming from MB5 or MC1 might not notice these differences but I still recommend that you upgrade.

Right. So, I was previously on the Italian (ITV) XXEMA1 ROM. I've flashed the latest Singaporean (XSP) EMA2 firmware. No wipe.

    Differences:
    1) Play Music is installed by default.
    2) Galaxy Choice is installed but hidden away. Cannot be uninstalled. I only found it after going to the bottom of My Apps list in the Play Store.

    Positives:
    1) Smooooooooooooth ROM!!! Apps open up and close quicker! It's fluid, it's smooth, it's excellent! :)
    2) Samsung Keyboard bug has been fixed.

    Negatives/Unresolved issues/Bugs:
    1) Home button to prevent screen timeout still tied to S-Voice.
    2) Widgets drawer still has the initial lag.
    3) Multitasking with games is still broken. You can't run two or more medium/heavy games in the background. One of them eventually restarts (if not instantly).
    4) Launcher can still redraw. Although it is a lot quicker to redraw itself.
    5) One finger expandable notifications are not present.
    6) Contacts/Phone doesn't open instantaneously.
    7) Shadow redraws on Touchwiz icons are still present (they occur a lot less frequently now).
    8) The Recent App tabs may still forget your most recent app (it occurs less frequently now).
    9) When recording a video, left and right audio is switched.
    10) NFC toggle bug: When you put the NFC toggle in the notification panel and restart the phone, the NFC icon disappears and you cannot select it. If you then go to settings and enable NFC, the icon appears again. Then, if you disable NFC through the toggle, System UI restarts. (There might be a different behaviour if you wipe but the end result is the same).

    Recommended or not?:
YES! The smoothness of the ROM is very noticeable! Samsung are definitely moving in the right direction! :)
