Have anybody else SIM-Card Problems ? Shows no SIM Found after reboot it works again, happens every Day.

sounds like it might be a hardware issue cause this is almost 10 years old :/

Yes i had 2 Years ago,
It is easy to change parts on s4 séries, that's why I like it, only Fairphone can be better device because more recent.
just buy a used s4 for 10€, with a broken screen for example, and see "sossav" website for guidance

Excuse me but the sentence is totally contresence, the device was officially abandoned running android 6 in August 2017 and don't received any security updates from Samsung

Every month, LOS port security updates
Did you misunerstand on purpose? When we talk about official ROM, we mean the one from lineageOS.org . we call the abandoned android 6 from Samsung "stock ROM"

If you want to have a stable rom and / or regular (security) updates you should install the official rom. OptLOS is kinda beta build.
Hi,thank you for your answer, i will install the official one then :)
do you recommend MindTheGapps or other gapps? I used to install the pico before and suited me well.
otherwise, what version of twrp do you need to have installed?

The (only) supported combination for the official rom is Lineage OS recovery and MindTheGapps (as mentioned in OP). I'm using BitGApps (much smaller, no annoying google setup) and TWRP 3.6.1_9-0 without problems.

3G has been killed in Germany. My LTE Samsung phones get telephony via 2G and data via 4G.
Darn, but here in Australia, we will also kill 2G...
Seems unlikely my really impressive S4 will continue to work as a PHONE pretty soon, -unless others have found otherwise in their countries which have already dropped 2G and 3G

-Anybody else? -Thanks for your help and feedback!!

Hi,

I have a Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 phone.

I installed official LineageOS 18.1 onto it last year and updated it to the latest version a couple days ago.

My problem is that I've never been able to make S-View functionality work since I flashed LineageOS.
(Before installing LineageOS last year, the phone was on its stock firmware, in which the flip case's S-View functionality worked as expected)

Specifically, the clock face does not show up in the rectangular area of the flip case upon closing its lid.
(I believe I set up this feature correctly in the Settings app)

On the other hand, the clock face does show up when I connect the phone to or disconnect it from the charger.

The clock face also shows up intermittently when the flip case is closed. I suspect it reacts to notifications but am not entirely sure.

There is also some other buggy behavior with regards to this: sometimes when I *open* the flip case (as opposed to when I close it) of the phone whose LED screen is turned off, the clock face turns up very shortly in the rectangular area of S-View, with the rest of the LED screen being black. Then the phone wakes up and the home screen is shown as usual. I can't reproduce this particular behavior at will.

I also have another Galaxy S4 whose model is SPH-L720 and I also flashed LineageOS 18.1 onto this one last year and the S-View functionality never worked either.

I filed a bug report via the official channel at some point (https://gitlab.com/LineageOS/issues/android/-/issues/4307) but it got silently ignored.

Any help to solve this issue will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think it should just work? So, weird question, do you have any other magnets attached to your phone? Maybe for a mounting mechanism or something?

No, I don't think I have any other magnets attached.
I'm just using an authentic S-View phone case from Samsung.

While the clock face doesn't show up when I close the lid of the flip case,

In the Settings app:
Apps & notifications -> Notifications -> Notification history

shows:
Recently dismissed -> FlipFlap: Smart cover detected

and this latter has the correct timestamp matching the time when I closed the lid.
I can also hear a phone ring upon closing the lid when sound is turned on.

For the record, I have another phone with LineageOS 18.1 installed, namely LG G3, which also makes use of FlipFlap for almost similar functionality: the circle area of its flip case should show a clock face upon closing its lid.
Here too, this used to work properly with stock firmware, but not anymore once LineageOS was installed.

Regarding this, the maintainer of LineageOS for LG G3 model kindly answered to my inquiry yesterday: he said he in person is using an authentic quick circle case for LG G3 phone and confirmed that it is working very well.

So now I suspect some OS settings I make out of habit is preventing FlipFlap from functioning correctly, but I have trouble narrowing it down.

Wow I stumbled on my old S4 and was curious what traffic on xda. Years ago, I wanted to flash the older s4 but got stuck somewhere. The lockpad on the boot screen shows unlocked... I wonder if I dig in to see what ATT variant I have maybe I can flash LOS (?) :)
The unlocked logo does not mean unlocked, it means you rooted or modified system on this device.

ATT variants are not unlockable unless they are on the day one shipped firmware.

As @npjohnson said...even my builds seems to work fine, they simply "bypass" some new, Android 12 stuff because our old device can't support.

Go to data usage, via settings, and check any application data usage. Let's say Chrome. Regardless how much u use the Chrome, the data usage seems zero. That's the problem.

I personally consider and respect the fact that lineageos wouldn't ship a build which includes a hacky thing that bypasses those network related stuff. This feature is a big change on Android platform, hence, I understand why LineageOS insist on a fix on this

tl;dr, as nolen said, the problem is on the kernel side and since jf can't have that backported change (I won't mess with it personally), the solutions are 2.

    1. Someone will mess with jf kernel and will backport ebpf (as lineage page says so)

    2. We will restore iptables back. This is my approach and I will personally work on it too. Fixing this will help many legacy device come back but trust me... It's really hard to bring it back

VoLTE will never work on the S4, or the S5.

These are from early VoLTE generations - in which there was no even semi-standard method to do it. Samsung and LG both stuffed it into the frameworks side java code and it's hopeless - there are too many subsystems working together on the stock ROM we just can't reverse engineer and tie together on LineageOS.
    6
There is available 19.1 for S4 by @side so the story doesn't end up here.
However, tbh LineageOS team shouldn't be so strict with legacy devices to get the tag Official. These devices are old now and needs some "hacks" in order to work which LineageOS team doesn't approve.
Side is one of us. He's aware of the constraints lol.

It's not "strict" - the "workaround" people keep linking LITERALLY just ignores the error - data restrictions, data management, and routing in general will always be 100% broken - and that will never be considered "working" - if someone makes that stuff properly work, even if tacky, we're no opposed - just that the current stuff isn't even a hack, it's just "ignore what's broken".
    6
    thanks for response and support
This issue is now fixed. You will need to sideload the upcoming build by hand to get back on track though.

    Sorry for the inconveniences.
