Why is rooting Android not recommended nowadays?
    Thanks.

And just not needed for most things. ADB root can be used where needed.

Yes. It can be a desktop or a laptop. As long as the power source causes the phone to enter into “charging slowly” mode, the battery won’t be charged. Since I have a second cable and a spare adapter, I ran some “tests”:
    ...
Yes, please send a logcat of the device that's having a hard time charging from USB. I think the issue comes from logcat spams, since those phones use a lot of power to keep logging everything (and it only seems to happen here with gapps installed for some reason), but the more data we get on this, the better.

Can someone proof, whether a 5ghz hotspot is possible? in the first LOS 19.1 Version it shutdown allways. only 2.4 GHz worked correctly.

i know first-world-probs. but important for me
Please stop - we're aware and will let everyone know when/if it is fixed.

@npjohnson: thank you a lot. . i crawled the whole change history on lineage-os 19.1 for the LG G5 and didnt find any notice. so i am quiet till it will be fixed. thought no one care or are able to reproduced it.
That's one of the things we are looking at those last few days, so it's not that "no one cares", we just have a slightly bigger issue on that front, with that being that hotspot didn't work at all on G6. It's better to see that one fixed before looking at the state of 5GHz on all devices.

Basically, we share a very similar set of device trees, and the same kernel between V20, G5 and G6 so that's why things can take a while sometimes.

I read that IR maybe back! If true, wow! Hopefully on both versions official and unofficial.
Yes it's back for both G5 and V20, on both official and unofficial 19.1 as well. Was really annoying to fix, but it's finally back after all those years on AOSP.

Nice, totally forgot to check the official G5 thread until now... (Hi again G5 community! Only showed up here one or two times before)

Figured i should do it sooner rather than later since it is closely tied to V20 in some features (FM and IR for example) and i'm the main kernel maintainer for those devices despite only having a V20.

Anyway, yeah infrared should be working soon, it was broken due to some binder updates that i partially worked around those last few days. So far no regressions, though we're relying on you guys to help test that!
    Thank you! Looking great!

Edit: Just read the thread through. Can we expect the FM radio to work at some point?

Also, which camera apps would you recommend that would support the wide angle? I'm currently using Open Camera and that's ok, but would like to try out other options if there are any.
The new kernel does have support for it since @askermk2000 (yeah he's also in, has been a really huge help ever since the beginning) brought back and reworked the BT+FM driver into 4.4, and FM even worked on some earlier Android 12 custom roms though we didn't test it much.

Problem is: That driver is causing a lot of issues on Android 13 so we'll have to rework it even more on both kernel and rom if we're going to actually support FM going forward. So in short, that's why there's no ETA, especially since there are a few more issues to iron out besides FM.
It'll make it at some point, it's in the plans and we just didn't sort out all the issues that would give it official status yet though it already works pretty well on custom roms... that one is also the least tested phone on our sources so far.

just installed the unofficial one too and everything looking good: thanks a lot npjohnson!
