Hi guys, it's sad for to talk again about camera, but it's becoming more and more unusable time after time, release after release. Now I can't take picture almost always, a fix seems to be switching to video and then back to camera, but I'm taking few pictures so I can't confirm it

stock camera not working, open camera is better (but has many problems, for example front camera for selfie not working)

Yeah, has nothing to do with API's - MotoCamera has an issue.
ALL cameras here have an issue? The problem started with my phone/camera as well with LOS20, the other cams like opencam or others have the same problem here. It seems to be any change in the Api from 19 to 20 or its implementation in LOS20. Could you plz have a second look on it? Now the camera is really useless and I used it nearly daily :( Thank you!

OpenCamera works fine for me - you're saying it doesn't for you?

MotCamera has issues.

I'm gonna be updating to LOS20 soon with a dirty flash of both LOS and NikGapps. I'll chime in on this camera issue afterwards. Probably over the weekend.

I deinstalled it days ago because it was the same like moto camera. Just tried and installed opencam again after your question, astonished that it works in the moment after switing to cam2-api (no function) and back again to default. I will try the next days and report if it breaks again. Thanks so long

Open Camera works fine if you switch from camera 0 to camera 2 clicking on the camera icon. I don't know why 🤔

update: switching the cameras works sometimes, mostly not! I got it working once switching from ID0 to ID2 and back and it worked few times then it stucks again.

Might the firmware need an update? Which one to use then? I have quite old flashfiles from 2018 on my PC, I think thats the one I have on my smartphone. How do I check in LOS20 which firmware I actually have? Under "about phone" is just the lineage Info instead of firmware info. The latest download I found is from 2021 and is for Android 10, Build-ID QPWS30.61-21-18-7. Can I use that to flash or will I break my LOS20?

Thanks for tipps

Does anyone have problems with taking pictures from Telegram, Whatsapp? This and other kind of apps that try to use camera inside them are very unreliable to use. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Firmware has nothing to do with any of the issues that people are seeing here

you said its a problem with the moto cameras. I see that it works in LOS19, so where is the difference to LOS20? A new way in LOS20 to talk to the interface of the camera? Must be a command to the camera-interface which is not understood. The camera itself is fine cause it works if I downgrade (just tried with another lake). And its not possible as well that lots of cameras break after upgrade, so the software remains. And if the firmware is only updated on a few smartphones and not on all (what is probably the best explanation) the fault should be that the old firmware did not connect all interfaces to all new commands from LOS20. You probably have the latest firmware on your phone so the camera works with open camera.

Is there a fault in my theory? If its not the firmware it must be the implementation of the new camerasoftware of LOS20, which then is surely not as well a fault of the camera.

I can only proove if I upgrade the old lake again (now with the latest firmware) to LOS20 again, cause I am not a software engineer, just a normal IT-fellow since 25 years. I would proove earliest in May 23, cause I need the now working camera (with LOS19) in the time between, no matter how old the system is.

I hope you find a fault in between.

Thank you, Chris

Abstractly guessing like this really doesn't help, sorry.

There's nothing related to the camera in the firmware you're talking about, you're talking about the bootloaders, modem, and trusted execution environment stuff, none of that is going to have one single effect on camera, not at least at this layer.

This is likely at the camera HAL layer, probably some obscure piece to change, some time out, some symbol, etc but at the moment none of the typical things that we would look for to notify us that these are in fact issues are showing up, so we're pretty much stabbing blindly.

Getting old for proprietary binaries to work isn't a fun process, and I'll get it working when we're able to figure out what the issue is, if anyone wants to go debug individual components from 19.1 and try them on 20 to see if they can isolate where exactly the issue is, that would be helpful, other than that, I'll get to it at some point.

My phone is a Motorola G7 Plus, currently at LineageOS v18.

    Two questions:
    • Can I update from LineageOS v18 to v20 straight away, or would I have to go through v19?
    • Will the update retain things like contacts, apps installed and their state? I am aware that I should make a backup of all relevant data anyway, but I would like to know if these are retained if all works as planned.
(hoping I am not asking things that are obvious to other users!)
    Yes and yes

Great job ! Just done a dirty install including flamegapps and everything is working a treat.
    Thanks.
I'd like to try a build but I cant find an up-to-date proprietary vendor on github.n Is it available?

I didn't expect the first unofficial was released the 5th of nov but at the end of november I'm still waiting for the first official release. Probably there's to much work to do.
Any possibility to download an unofficial version without Google Apps/Pixel goodies included?
Ugh. It's just an infrastructure issue at the moment.

Once they fix that officials roll - it was supposed to be at the beginning of this month.

And no, I won't build without google apps for unofficial.
