I noticed that the stock moto camera in LOS20 works poorly. The screen freezes a lot and it doesn't take pics. I wouldn't say it crashes though. I installed OpenCamera and that seems to work fine. I set the API level to 2 for more features, but I haven't tried any of them yet.

Dear lord - see past 2 pages of the thread - it is being worked on, but we don't know why yet.

Alright, I was just adding in thinking it was still unsure if it was a case peculiar to one user or acknowledged as a general problem. Not trying to pile on but merely include additional evidence to make a determination. I said I'd do this back in my Feb 22, 2023 post. Like I said, OpenCamera seems to work perfectly fine for me, and I'm not bothered.

Hi, I think about updating the "old" Moto G7 of my wife. Is it possible to pay with Google Pay (Google Wallet, NFC) with LOS 20?

Best regards
Kay

At the official build page, there is no recovery image any more but with boot.img and dtbo.img. What are these two images for?
Any new installation instrunctions? The installation instruction at the page does not updated and still asks to "Download Lineage Recovery"

Just read the instructions more closely, it describes the images to download

Okay, I see. Recovery is now named boot.img. It's strange a little. All devices that I use have separetly boot and recovery and it's not a big problem. Why LOS developers does this changes - I think they doesn't know ))
But in the instruction no one word about dtbo.img. What should we do with it? Flash it or what?
If you make any changes, please notify us in advance. It is very annoying to look for information on different sites and not understand why some changes have occurred.

Dude, I just told you what to do, the wiki tells you what to do, other images are for debugging, or other things you don't need to worry about.

As for boot and recovery split, we didn't choose to do that, AOSP did, we had to adapt to it, we can't just go back to the old way, it's not that easy.

You seem to act as if I know these things are going to happen ahead of time, I had literally no notice of this.

Plus, if you use my unofficial builds, it's been like this for quite some time

Then how do you explain the moment that I download recovery from previous builds, and now on the download page only boot.img and dtbo.img for those builds? See the build dates on the screenshots
February 28, 21, 14 - where are recovery images? They was there, I remember it. And I've download them.
AOSP chages huh?

Dude, what I'm telling you is it doesn't matter what it's labeled, follow the instructions on the wiki and everything will go fine, it's not a recovery image it's a boot image, we were abusing the fact the original download portal only showed things called recovery, now we fixed that.

The wiki is up to date, that's all you need to worry about.

And as for AOSP changes, go read the damn documentation, I'm not going to justify this, A/B introduced changes that put recovery in the boot image, we have to account for that and can't easily undo it.

I can't understand what's so complicated. If you read the Wiki you will find it on your own. But asking is easier than reading. Instead of being glad that there are still updates for an old phone, one should not
vent one's frustration here. The only thing that interests me is the question if the cameras work now, before I update again.

Best regards,
Charly

It "works" but safety net doesn't pass just like on 19, so you'd need to use some tool to make it pass.
Thank you for your answer. I understand it doesn't work because safety net failed. Is that correct? What tools do I need? I searched the internet but I didn't find a clear answer. It seams to be a kind of trial and error. Sometimes it works sometimes not.

About the camera issue, the GrapheneOS Camera created this log error. Could be a hint.

H!
For everyone with camera issues,
from last twrp (but also other works) I just install the motocamera2 v23.0 of Denali, same as stock camera app.
It install and work without problem!

Edit:
After report for have to work, motocamera2 must be install after install lineageos but at same time, I mean before start lineageos for the first time.
Otherwise install process in twrp will says anyway "installation successful", but after star lineageos motocamera2 will not present.

If someone doesn't want twrp permanently, it's possible to just boot the image.
ADB and fastboot must be installed, phone connected with USB and debugusb active.

Similar instruction can be found in the official page of twrp. (for me the command part "path/to" that the official guide says doesn't work so I just remove that from the command)

From terminal opened in the same folder of twrp img file, type:
adb reboot bootloader

And then:
fastboot boot twrp-3.7.0_9-0-lake.img

this will temporaney boot the twrp recovery where is possible to flash file putted in the sdcard, the Motocamera2, and also other file, like twrp.zip if want permanently, magisk, ecc.
So just flash the motocamera2 file that I attached and enjoy! (It will install in same partition so doesn't matter in which you are)

Hope could help someone!

Thanks developers for the beautiful lineage rom and still support this device!

yes

Yes! For me everything works without problem, saving on sdcard, also manual mode, and different photo and video mode.
Only for time laps video the gallery lineageos app doesn't want to open it, but other app open it (tested with x-plore app), so it's working.
When you install the motocamera2 it will replace the lineageos camera so you'll see only the motocamera2 app.

For me is still the best camera app for this devices, photo in manual mode with low iso and enough light can make very nice and detailed photo!!

Have now installed Los20 again and installed with TWRP motocamera2 as described above. The standard cam is uninstalled but no motocamera2. After restarting, no cam is present. Have installed motocamera2 from the Appstore, and it works. However, brings when starting the message, Portrait does not work on this hardware. But it runs without a trailer. Did also org. codeaurora. snapcam Version 8. 4. 400. 423370569. 19 installed. Night mode is great! Ran under lot 19 flawlessly. Sometimes she hangs, sometimes she doesn't. The above instructions were unsuccessful with me.

My phone is a Motorola G7 Plus, currently at LineageOS v18.

    Two questions:
    • Can I update from LineageOS v18 to v20 straight away, or would I have to go through v19?
    • Will the update retain things like contacts, apps installed and their state? I am aware that I should make a backup of all relevant data anyway, but I would like to know if these are retained if all works as planned.
(hoping I am not asking things that are obvious to other users!)
    Yes and yes

Great job ! Just done a dirty install including flamegapps and everything is working a treat.
    Thanks.
I'd like to try a build but I cant find an up-to-date proprietary vendor on github.n Is it available?

I didn't expect the first unofficial was released the 5th of nov but at the end of november I'm still waiting for the first official release. Probably there's to much work to do.
Any possibility to download an unofficial version without Google Apps/Pixel goodies included?
Ugh. It's just an infrastructure issue at the moment.

Once they fix that officials roll - it was supposed to be at the beginning of this month.

And no, I won't build without google apps for unofficial.
