Ok...looked at the source code unlock_cid.c and found it's failing at the nearly_useless_compat_check() where it's looking for "amsung" in /proc/cmdline even though the word samsung does exist in a cat of /proc/cmdline

But...even if it got past that....it would fail at the next step in the call to get_cid () since on my 4.4.2 Android...cid is not in any of the places the code is looking.

So without me recompiling beaups code, this executable 'unlock' won't work on a 4.4.2 (NC4) system.

Guess that answers my question of it working with nc2 either

Is there a video tutorial for this? And does this mean we have more freedom when developing roms now??
Yes and yes

I've been using JasmineROM with Safestrap up until now, I got the unlocker to work and it says developer edition in download mode. I also have 4.4 TWRP installed.

My question is: Does this mean I can install the developer edition of Jasmine and change out my kernel and all that if I need to or should I reinstall safestrap and keep using that with the retail edition ROM?

There is a step involving ODIN for the developer ed of Jasmine and I just don't want to end up bricking my phone.
I would odin 0F1 firmware and root with Yemen supersu busybox and then unlock that son of developer into submission. .man this is great. Then download flashify from google and install twrp...God that is such a pleasure to say..and then your ready for jasmine 6.1 through twrp. Why not. Can I get a hallelujah! Then do a backup with your beautiful twrp..now your ready to play and soon it will come. .Roms of all different colors

Everyone that's still on 4.2 and 4.4..What are you waiting for and what the hell is Safestrap good for when you got a recovery. .Step up to 5 root unlock and flash that recovery...are you kidding? Where is your damn excitement. .we have unlocked phones now..I see people trying to figure out how to stay on 4.2 and unlock..some guy is developer edition 4.4..really ?The only damn reason your on 4.2 was no root beyond that. The dam has broke and we have root and unlocked in a months time ..Bless these smart people that work on all this so we can smile again..cut it out. Work on putting all this **** together and be on the latest..
Sorry I got carried away. My apologies

Looking at fixing this, unfortunately I had a funeral this weekend and was quite busy with other things going on.

MODE: Developer

But the screen says Downloading...
Do not turn off target!!

And it seems to just stay that way, is that normal and should it be saying that?

yes I would delete all backup imgs made with Flashfire and backup through twrp ..This is beautiful...Oh and might as well put Jasmine on first before backup .
Its the best stock rom with xposed infused and battery excellent. I would wait for Roms to be ported to 900v. I would keep the 0F1 firmware ,Yemen root and Ryan G's magic bootloader unlock in a friggin vault for future emergency procedures..Otherwise we should sit back and enjoy the carefree recovery we have been blessed with..
About recovery surviving an Odin firmware update is a great question and not sure..I dont think it would survive and all the steps would have to be implemented again.. As long as you dont reset your phone in stock recovery or stupid crap many of us do when problems arise we should be fine.. Roms are definitely coming. Jasmine is fine as you can use Xposed framework to tweak and modify a bit safely..
Anytime you flash a firmware package in Odin it will replace everything. Let's say you did flash a firmware package in Odin. Your recovery would be replaced by the stock recovery. Nothing survives a full stock firmware package being flashed in Odin. And this also goes without saying that you shouldn't take any firmware updates from Verizon or Samsung because you risk losing everything that the developers have been able to do for us. You don't even need Odin really. You can do everything with twrp.

hope you still have your original CID.
if you have your original CID you can run a couple commands to flash original back

ok this hurts so good

where can we get it to test?
link?
Do a factory reset in twrp. That should fix your Sim card issue.

Yes. That is normal. You can pull the battery to reboot IF you are not in the middle of ODINing files.

Cheers,
B.D.
Yeah I ended up flashifying TWRP and now I'm seeing a valid recovery, I was nervous doing all this
so I was kinda twitchy seeing it, and I had never booted the stock recovery before for anything on this phone.

Bootloader unlock successful. (^_^)

I started on 5.0 did the root, bootloader unlock and have been on jasmine, I just flashed the kernel 2 minutes ago. Everything seems to be fine.

Also the only difference between the de jasmine and retail was flashing the partial firmware, now it does not matter since we have unlock.

I just wiped everything from TWRP and installed everything per the announcement page just to be safe. Even loaded the radio via ODIN cause I forgot if I had done it or not. Everything is going great. Now if I could just get a working CM or Paranoid.

I was wondering this and haven't seen anyone ask or say anything about it but can we flash a 4.2 based ROM? Was just wondering if their would be any issues since we're on the newer 4.4 bootloader even though it is unlocked

If I was you I would unlock a 5.0 bootloader or higher I dont know what your latest build is. On the S5 we can run 4.4.2 roms with 5.0 bootloaders.

Just Odin to 0F1 firmware and you get everything you need. Then unlock again and call it a day. Flash twrp and start flashing roms.

He thinks that the app or the unlock method flashes the 4.4 bootloader which it does not it flashes a hash security file as far as I know. It's also noteworthy that newer roms require newer bootloaders so there's no point in staying on an old bootloader when you can unlock the 0F1 bootloader. There's absolutely no benefit of staying on older firmware or Bootloader for that matter just flash the stock 0F1 firmware and unlock the bootloader and be done lol.

What does the step using ODIN to flash OF1 firmware do? and is it needed if you were already running OF1 before you did everything to unlock the bootloader?

Soooo much confusion on this, folks... our bootloader version is 4.4 and isn't going to change. And it has nothing to do with the version of firmware you run.

Even stock 5.x lollipop runs on the kitkat 4.x bootloader. As do CM11/12/13

You can install whatever ROM you want... but good luck finding many that work :)

The question here was about unlocking while on 4.4.2 firmware, and the simple answer has been given... just update to 4.4.4.

No not at all .0F1 is just the latest firmware which is just lollipop. If your already on it that step is not necessary

Are you sure? If you have a 5.0 factory tar image ill bet it has a lollipop bootloader. All other samsung phones needed 5.0 bootloaders to run lollipop at least the note 4 the S5 the S4 did
