Some Recommendations

Hi Everyone

I am aware that most of you are disappointed with the delay of the beta release and if i were at your place i would have felt the same :( All i can say at this stage is we are very close of the release and its a definite in the coming days. We had plans to release the build before holidays so we are still early on that schedule.

I would appreciate a constructive feedback and I Do Not want to Close this thread for any Off Topic discussion done since my last post. This is XDA and we encourage the discussion even when the Beta thread stands closed on OnePlus forums.

For those who had doubts or didn't understand my last message, i would like to clarify few things as we move towards Pie.
When you get your hands on the Pie release, i would like you to be aware of the below and backup your entire device. As its a big update and change of Android versions, please follow the below:

To begin with Clean flash is recommended and make sure you uninstall/remove all System Mods, Magisk Modules, Substratum overlays etc before you proceed. (Do Not report bugs on Dirty Flash) &/Or if you cant do a clean flash Factory reset is recommended from recovery after the Pie update.

1. Back -up your internal (Data, Media everything that is important and not stored on cloud) :good:
2. I recommend flashing the Full Rom instead of the incremental OTA (both locked and unlocked users) and definitely clear cache from recovery after the update :good:
3. The final build may or may not be TWRP flashable so i would recommend to use the stock recovery just in case TWRP is unable to flash the Pie build :good:
4. If you face any lags or loops, factory reset after the update is recommended so again data backup is essential :fingers-crossed:
5. Make sure you check and update play service and all app updates from playstore upon first boot so that any pie related updates can be installed before you start using the device and report any force closures :fingers-crossed:
6. First boot will take longer than expected so be patient :good:
7. Expect bugs as this will be the first pie release for your device so there can be some broken functionalities :fingers-crossed:

Lastly for users who have OP5/5T as your primary or only device i would request you to hold the update for a day or two and check the feedback on the forums for any broken functionalities before you fall for the pie hype :p

For those who follow me know that i posted a backup heads up as similar advise when we received Oreo update but some users did not take my advise seriously and ended up with loss of data and encryption issues and had to wipe the entire device so please take the necessary backup and backup all that you cant afford to loose. The last thing i want on this thread is reports of bricked devices and loss of data due to OTA or Pie update :fingers-crossed:

As i have said before feedback whether good or bad is extremely important to us, as it is only on the receipt of such information we can assess and improve the experience that we offer this i would like to thank all of you for your continued feedback on our Beta Program Builds and we look forward to more constructive feedback from our XDA community :highfive:

Stay tuned :fingers-crossed:

Well said Funk :good: my OnePlus 5 is in waiting condition for the pie, I let it unlocked and hold it for a backup device :D:cowboy:
Thanks funk for your all words. :victory:
Thanks guys for your continued support, I am glad we still have people who have patience and understanding :good:

@Funk Wizard

Thank you for the explanation :)

I would like to ask a question, did you say "we are very close to the release", what would be delaying the launch of this beta?
To begin with the builds are released as follows:
CBT > MP > OB > OTA General

When the builds are in early stage there are handful of users who do not mind broken builds or broken functionalities as that is where it all starts. Now as we move on to further testing stages OB stage gaps the bridge between the raw layout and the final product and as its the first point of contact with our community in general, we need to make sure they stand up to your expectations and be as good as your daily driver from the first release.

Coming to the device specific builds, development is unifie, however these are 2 seperate builds one for the 5 and one for 5T that need to pass CTS and have Google's Ok to go ahead approval and certification. Technically if CTS fails, the bugs causing the failure needs to be fixed and builds need to be resubmitted for CTS, which again takes time. Also, both the builds need to pass the tests and certification seperately and get approval so that we can release them simultaneously rather than one before the other making the other devices users wait further.

There are more than 15K users for each device beta program so we need to make sure the builds pass these tests in order for play store being certified so apps like G-Pay, Netflix and other financial apps can work fine giving the user the confidence to stay with the beta as a daily driver and provide active feedback on areas to improve.

For all those who want to know how the Pie goes, Patience and Love is all we need at this stage.

Thank you for your consideration and understanding :highfive:

Funny how legitimate observations and questions about the upcoming release are being deleted without a comment. Is this becoming reddit?
The problem is, that there are too many ETAs there, and too many aggressive comments. Imo, it's true that the release of OOS Pie for our device takes far too long, I mean, custom roms are out for weeks and months and working well. BUT one should consider as well, that the release takes exactly that amount of time which it needs, not more and not less. For example, if OP released Pie already some weeks ago, but therefore, it would have been buggy, then everyone would have complained about it, why OP could release crappy, buggy software. Now it takes longer, because OP wants to make it as bug-free as possible (I hope so?!), and now everyone is complaining about how long it takes. I guess, nowadays, it's only about complaining. Everyone complains about everything, and nobody can be pleased, nobody is satisfied. It's just annoying. The update comes when it comes. I don't understand what is there to discuss about. Will the update arrive earlier when we are all discussing about it? No. So everyone should keep calm and do something else. Or is everyone so desperate that he or she keeps writing and complaining (and constantly keeps pressing F5 to check for an update I guess :D ) about an update which hasn't even arrived? One should have better things to do.

Here is a post you should read again: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78373064&postcount=3311

I'm posting this here because it's valid for everyone: If you or any other member have an issue with posts being deleted or any other moderators' decision, you have to contact the moderation team via PM or report a thread explaining what's the problem. You do not have to post publicly your opinion about moderators' actions: it's pure OT.

In case you didn't know, posts are not deleted without any reason, you don't know and can't know what's happening behind the scene. I can assure you when a post is removed, there is a valid reason.

So, as asked multiple times already, please be back on track now.

How to revert back to oos from h2os

How to revert back to oos from h2os
Copy and paste stock stable oos or latest OpenBeta on your phone, remove pin pattern or any password, then use advanced reboot from h2os and reboot in recovery flash from there the OOS which you choose and all should be fine :good:

Hi Everyone,

It seems that whatever i say the reasons cant seam to justify the delay for the release. The thread is going way off topic and the moderation team has to do a lot of work behind the scenes. In the last few days the team had to clean the thread multiple times and some users have even got into making duplicate accounts to jump on the hate wagon to post on the beta threads and got themselves into trouble

Since the current discussion does not hold any value to the thread topic and is continuously asking for moderation requirements, I will close this thread temporarily. We appreciated everyone's feedback and will reopen the thread now once the pie beta build is released.

I would like to thank all of you for your continued feedback on our Beta Program Builds and we look forward to more constructive feedback from our XDA community :highfive:

Stay tuned :fingers-crossed:

Official Update from the ROM Team | 11th Dec 2018 | More to Come ...

Hey everyone,

Many of you have tagged me and sent me PM asking about an ETA for PIE OBT update for OnePlus 5/5T, hoping this post will give some clarity on the update status.

We have been testing Pie build for OnePlus 5/5t on our closed beta stream since last month, and our Closed beta testers have reported many potential bugs and feedback which we have been working on, to make sure that you get an open beta build that's stable enough to be used as a daily driver.

Compatibility Test Suite(CTS) is just another step in a long process, before releasing a build we also need to make sure it is Google Play certified, and all this does take time to be processed and an ETA is not something we can promise cause there could be changes in release date due to one of this steps failing or getting delayed and various other factors related to QT

we are working to make sure you get to experience PIE on your beloved OnePlus 5/5T as soon as possible, kindly bear with us Pie is almost baked ..thank you for your patience

Guys please remember these steps before your update, I do not want any reports of bricked devices. Keep in mind that i do not have 5/5T to test any more as i have moved to later devices so please be careful.

Enjoy the Pie and continue the feedback and constructive discussion :good:
