First of all thanks for all the work still being done for this device. I'm still on 15.1-20190224-NIGHTLY-payton, and I finally have some time to play. If I want to update to 18.1, is it enough to first flash the latest stock firmware for my device once it becomes available? Or should I flash earlier firmware as well? Also, once the correct firmware is installed, should I install the Copy Partitions Zip again?

Heyyo, a new test build is going up. Link as always in the first post and I'm uploading meow so the upload should be done in 10 minutes. lineage-18.1-20210404-UNOFFICIAL-payton contains more echo reference / fluence fixes to try out

UPDATE: I had to redo the upload as I missed one change I wanted to also test for fluence, so if you have the 20210403 download? Please discard it and test the 20210404
I did a Telegram video call without echo. ;)

Just installed new Lineageos 18.1 on my moto X4. The ROM is pretty smooth, stable without any lags. Battery is okay. Thanks for such a stable ROM.
Fast charging (Today (Apr 5) I noticed fast charging working, previously it showed charging slowly)

Major missings
Face unlock
Three finger screen shot. That also support long screen shot)
Hope this will be updated upcoming builds.

Yes, Fast charge is a "must have".
And WiFi cannot handle setups with WPA3 enabled.
Also LTE is only using 4G and not 4G+ anymore.
Moto Camera 2 App does not start anymore.
All points worked flawlessly on 17.1. Hopefully it will be fixed on 18.1 soon.

Build lineage-18.1-20210406-nightly-payton-signed.zip solves WiFi issue (WPA3) and Fast Charge issue for me. Moto Camera 2 still doesn't start and LTE stays 4G only.

Heyyo, a new test build is going up! Link as always in the first post. lineage-18.1-20210406-UNOFFICIAL-payton contains a few more echo / noise cancelling tweaks as one user was saying webrtc apps for him still had echo... It also contains changes to test Widevine L1 which I can't test on my Payton as I have a FI model which wipes DRM keys on bootloader unlock oof... So I really need community members to test it out.

@prowebtips If your GPS is not working I'd recommend trying to reinstall the ROM. Make sure you are on the slot you had a booting ROM working and then do the copy-partitions zip and then wipe cache, system, vendor and data first and then try again.

Just installed Lineage 18.1 Everything seems fine, apart Moto Camera 2, as reported. I ahve however other trouble. I use Nova Launcher, when I close an app and return back to the launcher, it opens Trebuchet instead. I have checked that the defualt launcher is set to Nova...

Heyyo @leetripper , ok I'll just merge the stuff from the previous commit and I'll leave the disabling of libqcomvoicepreprcoessing out, so the next official build will have those echo-reference fixes from the previous test build. Thanks again for helping me diagnose this stuff. (y)

Anyone by chance tested out Widevine L1 btw? Not sure tbh if I'll pursue it or not since Widevine L1 working properly in custom ROMs is a nightmare to get going because of codecs and stuff... (I didn't merge the Widevine L1 stuff or update blobs from the EOL Payton Fi build either)

@artu72 , not sure why, but I've seen this bug too. I've rebooted and it works fine, sometimes it's because of changing a lot of settings at once too... so I'd recommend resetting Nova Launcher to defaults and make sure it's working fine and then only do a few changes at a time and see what happens.

I have rebooted and now Nova works fine! Thank you.

I'm coming from stock ROM and a feature I miss a lot is locking device with a long press on fingerprint sensor. Is there any way to get this for LOS18.1? Or maybe is it available on previous LOS versions?

Is it just the Moto Camera 2 app that isn't working, or is the default camera app also not working?

Also, I'm assuming that upgrading from 16 is basically the same as from 17?

Google fi has started taking like 5 min every time I go to a different street before it is able to re-connect to the mobile network. I'm hoping 18 will fix it if it's from my side. Do you typically update firmware to the latest moto firmware (as given in the stock link from the second post)?

Updated my X4 to official 18.1 release.
    1. booted twrp to make a backup of 17.1
    2. wiped cache, system and data using twrp
    3. rebooted to 17.1 recovery
    4. enabled adb
    5. adb reboot sideload
    6. adb sideload lineage-18.1-20210401-nightly-payton-signed.zip
    7. adb reboot sideload
    8. adb sideload MindTheGapps-11.0.0-arm64-20210328_143848.zip
    9. reboot, add my wifi, login to google, restore apps from backup
    10. enabled developer mode, adb - don't find advanced reboot options?
Pretty much everything I've tried seems to work, the only app I've had any issue with is X-plore file manager - it complains about my external-storage/Android/data directory "Can't rename base dir (err 1 EPERM)" - the builtin? Files app can go to that directory but sees no files. Not a big deal - just puzzling.

So far, so good - but really am missing the reboot options.

Heyyo @akillenb , reboot options are now under Settings > System > Gestures > Power Menu > Advanced Restart

@WackyDoo the wipe options are for TWRP. Lineage Recovery has Factory Reset options

Also, since official 18.1 builds kicked off? I updated the thread title and first post to include upgrade from 17.1 instructions (y)

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 10, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

    Introduction

This is the official Lineage OS thread for the Motorola Moto X4, codename payton.

We support all the T-Mobile, International, and Project Fi variants, as their bootloaders are unlockable, while we can't support the Verizon and AT&T variants, as their bootloaders are permanently locked.

How to install via Lineage Recovery

    Please follow the official instructions

    How to install via TWRP

    1. Boot the newest TWRP .img from the Official TWRP Project Site.
    2. IF YOU ARE COMING FROM STOCK AND WANT TO INSTALL CUSTOM ROMS FOR FIRST TIME, INSTALL "Copy Partitions Zip" FROM POST #2
    3. In TWRP, click "Wipe", "Format Data", then type "yes" as prompted.
    4. ADB sideload the newest weekly
    5. (Optionally) You can flash the newest TWRP Installer also found at the Official TWRP Project Site if you wish to maintain TWRP, though the pre-installed Lineage Recovery instance will do everything you need it to in most cases. We don't recommend or support the use of the TWRP installer, as it is overwritten on every update (will need to be re-installed every update), and has no addon.d-v2 persistence.
    6. Click "Reboot", then choose "Recovery", this will boot you to either Lineage Recovery or TWRP depending on your choice to install TWRP or not. It is necessary to reboot between ROM flash and GApps/Addon flash due to verity/slot-swap logic.
    7. (Optionally) Flash GApps
    8. Reboot

How to upgrade from 17.1 via Lineage Recovery

    Please follow the official instructions

How to upgrade from 17.1 via TWRP

    1. Boot the newest TWRP .img from the Official TWRP Project Site.
    2. IF YOU ARE COMING FROM STOCK AND WANT TO INSTALL CUSTOM ROMS FOR FIRST TIME, INSTALL "Copy Partitions Zip" FROM POST #2
    3. In TWRP, click "Wipe", then select "advanced" and select "cache" and wipe.
    4. ADB sideload the newest weekly build or copy it to your device and install the zip

    7. (Optionally) Flash GApps
    8. Reboot

    Notes

Official Lineage OS builds will not pass CTS/SafetyNet -- due to the AVB flag's "red" status. (Magisk works fine, though is not supported.)
Official Lineage OS builds ship with full treble compatibility, with VNDK runtime enforcement! This means that unlike most "ported treble" you'll see, ours is just as it would be from the OEM, and can run any GSI (yes, even Pie!) without need for hacks or additional flashable zips. We relabeled /oem as /vendor (as /oem isn't used in custom ROM's anyway). To use a GSI, flash official Lineage, then flash your GSI, it's that simple! Flashing a factory image will likely write over /oem and remove the mock vendor image. Please don't report GSI bugs here, report them instead to the GSI's maker.
