ive been sitting with WM for the last few years so its been a while since ive had an android phone but am I not right in thinking that when Rooted, your shafted with certain things anyway, such as Netflix either not working or not allowing HD+ content?

I vaguely remember issues with iplayer and Netflix with rooted devices.

Certainly if we are able to backup the DRM keys and allow root to function without loss of functionality
(camera etc) AND I'm still able to use the device on Netflix / iplayer etc then ill chip in £30

If Rooting it buggers up other aspects then I'm less likely to be bothered to root it...

hope that makes sense!

:)

Z3 owner looking to upgrade here and made an account just for this.

I pledge 20 EUR to the bounty, not just for XZ Premium, but the upcoming XZ1 is also fine with me.

I'm up for supporting you, but I've been on WM for years now,, so bare with me, I am not a complete novice, far from it as you can see from my profile, but my experience is some what out of date!

I flashed this phone using your tool the other day with out issue, so your wanting me to what exactly?, Dump this trim area and do what with it?

Hey guys. I'll throw in £30 too. Sorry it's not much. But I really want some basic root functionality without loss of DRM key related functionality.

how can i pay by internet card or money transfer.
no paypal here

pls send me a link
When the person who sorts the method out, does it. You either donate to them via the 'Donate to me' button under their profile or contact them directly.

So at the moment we're just waiting for someone to get the fix together.

I've added the new total to the front post. So far we're at: $475

Whoever ends up pulling this off is going to end up being able to buy himself a brand new XZP with the money. I can also imagine a lot more direct donations too from outside this thread.

Let me know first if that working! :)
is there a way of doing just the dump rather than the whole flash caboodle!?

I don't recall seeing any options to dump anything but imight have missed them.

I can flash the whole thing if need be, its not a major deal to get up and running but if there is an option to just dump, then id rather that.

Are you saying that this is a proposed method to backup and restore the DRM keys, or something else?

You kicked off a great thing over here! Really sick of the latest flagships being on lockdown, and Sony is the best option for me because of the near-stock experience and overall most familiar rooting experience for me.

$475 is a great start for the first few days, and the weekend isn't even over. The Z3 bounty reached $2000+ within the first 10 days:

I don't own XZP to test but yes I have made pre pre alpha feature of the trim area dumper, only new version newflasher have that, dumper is untested curently! If dumper somehow working I will need to see log and look into them to see if all units is dumped (pm me by providing your log, don't post it public!)

You must download latest newflasher! https://forum.xda-developers.com/cr...gress-newflasher-xperia-command-line-t3619426

@leijonasisu
Please correct first post.
There's nothing special in how Sony phones handles root.
If any it's dumb easy since they can get the bootloader unlocked.

The thing though is that you'd want to gain root (to preserve DRMs) without/before going down the official way.
But you could just as well never root anything (just unlock BL), and you'd still loose them for the records.

p.s. I hope that if our munjeni overlord get the bounty, he might want to finally release the sauce of some of its magic after so many time
