Has anyone had any success downloading the update from here, then changing it to a zip file and putting it on there sd card, then updating through stock recovery?

There is so much going on that sometimes it is hard to know. I have never rooted my phone and I still get the failed at 27%. I am just figuring out what to do before having to drive a hour to best buy for a 10min fix.

Worked for me! Wiped my phone but who cares! LOL
Tried with it on sd card, didn't work and wiped my phone. I tried through adb sideload and get a system/lib/libdcs.so has unexpected contents and E:Error in /tmp/update.zip (status 7). Unless someone knows whats up I am driving to best buy.

Have you tried it with NB4 and then with this update or alone...

Mine worked very well with NB4 1st and then 4.4.2...

status 7 may be a bad update.zip, try unziping with 7-zip to test
as your maybe last try

You must have rooted MJ5 or NB4 with safestrap recovery installed

downloading this NB4 recovery backup ( I have a copy but it will take 7 hours to upload),

place backup in your TWRP folder next to your other backup ( if you have any)

make sure you copy the folder thats inside the unzipped folder ( you do not want backup to be two folders deep)

this will install all files that the OTA update might complain about

then ADB side load the OTA update. hopefully you make it.

I have not done this yet, ( afraid yet) I want kitkat with root so I am doing a safestrap recovery install from a OTA KITKATdump

The status 7 is just a failed flash. Unexpected contents means its not there or changed. Replace that file and try again.

That's what I did exactly. Whenever I came across a file error, I just replaced that file and tried again. Sooner or later I had no file errors and a successful upgrade to KitKat.

For anyone trying to find an easy way around this whole update mess. Just go to your local best buy store and talk to one of the Samsung reps. They don't have the kit kat update yet but however they can reflash 4.3 on your phone wiping out all your data (make sure you do a back up from home) and this will let you get the OTA update with no problems. My note 3 has been rooted twice one being last night and it worked. Just make sure your not rooted when you take your phone.

That is the easiest way, but you forget people like me that have to drive 100 miles to find a best buy

Do y'all think BB or AT&T would reflash to 4.3 IF we take it in being on the leaked kk?

I'm Kingo rooted on Tmobile network. Haven't received any OTA updates, note even the small one before 4.4. Any idea how to get the OTA updates?
