I read a lot about formating and installing a custom rom. I'm fine with MIUI though. Can I install TWRP on latest stock rom? I just want to flash SuperSU.

I need some advice guys, hopefully somebody can help me
I've got a Redmi 4X with unlocked bootloader and I want to flash NitrogenOS along with Clarity Kernel.
As I've read in this thread, when I'll install TWRP I'm going to face that password encryption problem and that dm-verity
So, in order to flash an AOSP ROM I need to perform a Data format from the wipe section? Or just type my phone password when I'm asked to do so.
Also I've read that the dm-verity problem doesn't affect with AOSP based ROMs, only with stock MIUI ROM, so I'm not gonna need to flash the lazy flasher, am I right?
Finally my last question is: In order to flash a custom ROM with a custom Kernel, do I need to wipe everything (cache, dalvik, internal storage, system, etc) and then with no OS installed I would be able to perform the AOSP ROM and Kernel installation? Or I only need to wipe data, cache and system?

Also is this recovery stable after doing all that stuff I mentioned above? I mean, will I be able to install Magisk, or mods like Dolby Atmos, iOS emoji, etc without any problems like that red FAILED message?

I just did that and it does NOT work. So now I need help please. I did everything as described on the twrp website. After rebooting I am now in a boot loop. I can only boot into fastboot now. Please help.

There should be a big warning on the TWRP page for Redmi 4X stating that 3.2.1.0 is highly broken and puts your device into a boot loop. I hope I can recover from this. I can go from fastboot into TWRP with fastboot boot twrp.img. What can I do to boot into my MIUI 9.5.4.0 again?

To boot into recovery your command should be:
fastboot boot .....

And not fastboot boot recovery .....

Hi all,

I have read thru this whole thread and I'm still confused as to the steps I should be using. I have a 4X with the stock miui ROM version 9.5.4. I want to keep using the miui ROM and not install a custom ROM, at least at this stage, and root the phone so I can use titanium backup.

I downloaded TWRP from here:
https://dl.twrp.me/santoni/twrp-3.2.1-0-santoni.img.html

and now when I boot into TWRP it's asking for a password. What do I do now?
Enter a password or skip it?
Format DATA?
Install LazyFlasher?

Please confirm my next steps so I do not have any issues?

TIA

Greg

Yes

This is the firmware who you need. Lazy flasher is only for downgrade to miui again

https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73602248&postcount=405

Flash this twrp version for all Android versions. Incluse roms based on asop with Oreo

https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75938137&postcount=77

You are my Hero! The TWRP from Team Ghost works like a charm (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75938137&postcount=77)
I used to get the decryption error with twro 3.2.1.0 and got either "error 7" or if i tried to fix it "invalid zip signature" with twrp 3.1.1.0.

SOLVED!

Hi all,

Got my new 4X with Miui 9.5.4.0 ROM | installed TWRP 3.2.1.0 | flashed lazyflasher | reboot | flashed SU 2.82 and all working well. Selected the option to not have read-only system in TWRP.

Questions:

1. Will OTA updates now work and if so must I re-flash anything?
2. If I flash a MIUI update via recovery must I re-flash anything?

TIA

Greg

Just received update available on phone, so wondering which path I should take. OTA or download the zip and flash via recovery.

Posting the steps to install the recovery, so everyone knows.
1-Connect your phone into fastboot mode using pc.
2-Open adb tools command prompt.
3-Type fasboot flash recovery recovery.img (recovery.img is the twrp you just downloaded, should be in the same folder from where you opened the command prompt).
4-Type fastboot boot recovery.img
5-TWRP will open. It might not detect your internal storage and ask for a password.
6-Back your storage up.
7-Then, go to wipe and wipe everything. After this your storage will be empty.
8-Since there's no os, install a custom rom and reboot.
:) Cheers

I'm new to this. Will this work with my new redmi 4x with stock ROM? the only thing I did so far was unlocking the bootloader.

Team Win Recovery Project 3.x, or TWRP3.x for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. Its a fully touch driven user interface no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.

    Code:
    /*
     * Your warranty is now void.
     *
     * We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
     * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
     * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
     * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
     * you point the finger at us for messing up your device, we will laugh at you.

I'm new to the Redmi 4X Xda thread here, any body tell me what's going on with this Encryption bug in TWRP ?
I've just unlocked bootloader using Mi Unlock tool and wanted to install TWRP and root to backup and then Flash RR Rom .
Do i also have to face this encryption bug as well ? (I've not enabled any type of encryption in MIUI. Settings are same as factory new MIUI version.)
If every option in this official twrp working or not like basic backup and restore ?

I was using MIUI 9 Global Stable and I had TWRP installed as my custom recovery. Recently, I have installed CRDroid with TWRP. I performed a full wipe including system, dalvik cache, data. Also I have flashed CRDroid succesfully. But now, I can't boot into recovery mode. I tried in various ways. I tried with KEY-COMBO of my phone (redmi 4x), tried with flashify, tried with power menu option of CRDroid to boot into recovery. But the phone just reboot as normal. It doesn't boot into recovery. Don't understanding what is the problem :( Does anybody have any idea? Please help :(
Turn off mobile phone and then press vol up + vol down + power key at same time until your device vibrates or till mi logo appears wait for a sec and device boot into twrp
