This always worked fine for me thus I never tried any other update procedure than this. But maybe V1.70 doesn't support GPS-slot updates yet. To be honest V1.77 was the earliest build I ever read about in this thread until I read that you are running V1.70.

Yes I did unmount and mount the GPS SD slot when the HU was running and didn’t do the trick unfortunately.
I did try your second suggestion too, since our cars has long acc 12+ I thought I wait a while and try both buttons and turn on the ignition, my son was helping with the buttons, I am probably not so acrobatic as you are But I found out that Quick Boot app working really nice to get in recovery.
I was almost 14 hours busy with this in 2 days, I even took my laptop to the car so I could download the needed files on the run and try them. I tried every possible combination I can think of with the FW’s and buttons

Like you said maybe my MCU being 1.70 is the problem, I installed the HU in may but ordered long time before and received it in march. Maybe it was one of the first units made and it from old stock?

You can configure it in the gps Options how loud the Navigation should be at listening to an other source.

GPS Software: Sygic

Hmm upgrade to 14.3.1 now appears xposed / appsettings isn't working again to change the dpi....

Yeah, when I had anything set in App Settings for Sygic, it would crash.

Must say tho, still prefer Igo still, I just find with sygic that it doesn't warn long enough ahead forvwhen you need to exit a busy highway, Igo for examples gives you 1km before you need to exit, sometimes sygic gives you a warming at 250feet. Semi annoying.

Isn't the notification distance adjustable? I thought I saw a slider for that.

I have the same issue - with the following config

Change the GPS mixing under Settings->GPS. You also have to use the nav app selected under Settings->GPS->GPS Application. It won't monitor for other apps to mix. I think a reboot is needed for the change to be effective.

If that doesn't resolve it, try modifying the Audio settings under Settings->Factory Settings->Audio and change the setting for SYS to a higher value. You may have to then lower the value of Poweramp's volume using the knob in the EQ.

hi markus i have just bought the same unit for my e46, currently running 1.99 firmware with mcu 1.77. 2 questions

what difference is there in 2.02 compared to 1.99
secondly i have the paid version of poweramp, how do you get the steering controls to work with poweramp, for next\previous track, the defualt apps work fine. i have read on here however a little confused?

Correct, the steering wheel control settings do nothing with canbus, only if you are using the key1/key2 wires. For SWC to work in other apps, you need to root, install xposed framework, and XposedMTC module from this thread.

Regarding illumination, I'm using the same exact setup. 1.91 GS MCU, 2.03 KGL system, canbus. Illumination works perfect via canbus (headlights on/off). From the Facotry Settings menu, make sure "RGB LED" is enabled in the "other" tab. That will enable the illumination menu in settings. Turn your headlights on (to enable illumination) and change the LED color from the illumination menu. My GS unit doesn't have true RGB, only Green and Red, so on certain color settings the illumination doesn't work.

Ditto. Same issue. I have also tried different combinations of attaching the illumination and dimming wires, nothing works as of yet.

2 --> You don't need antenna adapter. But you need blue wire from this grey adapter, it is antenna amplifier power.

I just wanted to say thank you to nkt75, for his advice in this post -- I basically followed these instructions and added a new wire pin from the gray adapter into the big blue connector, and it fixed my radio reception fully. thanks!

I am done with it, it is not possible to update my MCU on this unit no matter what I do, just came back from the car tried every MCU and FW combo and same date releases and still no go, at the end I installed 2.02 FW and I am still on 1.70 MCU, recovered everything back with Titanium rooted and installed exposed and that’s it.

I have every try same error:

Like it is getting blocked by something since the cfg gets aborted, I would appreciate any help with this.

Reading your post once more again, mcu.cfg being aborted shouldn't really be the problem.
I have the same message when upgrading, because normally there is no mcu.cfg.
It's only there, if you do an export of the factory settings.
The real issue is that no mcu.img is found.

- Display is crisp and clean (no problem to see it at daylight at 75%). There is a brightness control in settings, but no automatic setting.
- The touch screen is extremely responsive. It works as good as my Evo 4G LTE.
- Built-in mic works great (not all of them, some people complain. External mics work well though.

How to upgrade your Firmware
WARNING!!! -- Some people having Klyde and RoadMaster units have used these updates and bricked their units, or some functions like radio would not work any more. Please make sure you have a KGL/HuiFei, or if you have a Klyde/RoadMaster make a backup of your MCU and firmware before updating.
You will need to read the thread to figure out whether you have a KGL/Klyde/RoadMaster. They all look very similar and have the same apps but different hardware and MCU. Their firmware may not be interchangeable.

The files posted here are specific for HuiFei/KGL and will upgrade your unit to 1.77, 1.86 or 1.99 (if you already have this version, there is no need to upgrade)
- MCU version: 1.77, 1.86 or 1.99 depending on the file you download.
- Android version 4.2.2
- Kernel version: 3.0.36 May 14 03:45:57 PDT 2014 (this is for v1.77)
- Build number: rk30sdk-eng4.2.2 20140514.19:44:15 (this is for v1.77)

v1.77 reduces boot time to around 24s.and fixes microphone issue with android not seeing it, and install radio app that stores names.
v1.86 includes bluetooth menu and fixes wifi issues for some people.
v1.99 some people have 2-way canbus with this version.

IMPORTANT!
Upgrading is supposed to be a safe operation, but you never know what can happen. So, before updating make sure that:
1- you have a backup of your system (the easiest way is download nandroid root from google play, and do a nandroid backup with TWRP format)
2- make sure you can enter in bootloader mode (see below how to)
3- it is recommended to backup your apps and data (use titanium from google play). The update will do a factory reset.

Once all these is done, proceed as:

There are 2 kinds of files. update.img and mcu.img (inside tar files).
- update.img is the android update
- mcu.img is the mcu update (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Generic_Android_Head_Unit/MCU_Explained)

MTCB-KGL1 --> This is the mcu for BMW and Mercedes
MTCB-KGL --> This is the mcu for the other car makers

2- Copy update.img and mcu.img to the root folder of your GPS sdcard (take the one you need, if you flash the wrong one the radio will probably malfunction)
3- At the next mount of GPS sdcard (card insertion or unit reboot) the radio will detect an update and automatically update it.
4- You will see a pop up saying that an update image is detected. Say yes to update.
5- Your unit will automatically reboot into recovery mode and update your system
6- When done, the unit will reboot itself again. You will see that the boot logo is now an android. (the first boot is slow)
7- you are updated.
8- go to Factory settings to change boot logo if you want. Choose car and DVD to have the logo of the car.

* If this method does not work, copy mcu.img and update.img to /mnt/sdcard and reboot the unit.

Get Into Recovery
1 Press reset button and power button together
2 After about 5 secs release reset button, but keep pressing power button
3 When booting screen appears release power button.
4 It boots into recovery.

--Update-- some units without front USB have a different procedure
Firstly power on the unit and then long press the power button and then reset. Then the unit will get three rings and you loose your hand on the power button and short press the power button again. (thanx @netay)

--Update 2-- some others have this procedure (thanx @R4D3N)

1. Turn off the unit by holding 3-4 sec the power button.
2. Hold the RESET button + POWER button for 5 sec
3. Release the RESET button and keep pressing the POWER butoon for 2 sec
4. Release the POWER button and wait. The Recovery menu appears.
5. With the Volume knob you can move up/down and long press on Volume/Power button to select the option.

Get Into Bootloader
The process is basically the same, with the difference that you need to have the computer attached to the unit via the front miniUSB (if you do not have a front USB, you will have to ask your seller how to get into bootloader mode)

1- boot the unit as usual.
2- plug the front usb of the unit to your computer usb.
3- Then, push the reset button and the power button at once and keep them pushed. The reset button is the tiny pin next to the mp3 sdcard. The power button is the volume knob. You will hear the power cut throught the speakers.
4- Release reset button and keep power button pushed. Now the unit will reboot. You will see nothing, just a black screen. Do not release the power button yet. Your computer will detect a " new hardware", that is the RolckChip. When you hear the windows noise of new detected hardware, you can release power button. It will automatically install the drivers.

HOW TO ROOT AND INSTALL TWRP

Instructions to get root (thanx to @webdude12)

1- Install the APK.
2- Make sure you are connected to WiFi and you have an internet connection.
3- Open Root Master (do not upgrade to newer version unless you can read chinese, The newest version has different options, all in chinese. Version 2.1.1 just has a button that says "root".))
4- Press root button
5- Chinese characters will flash across the screen.
6- A second popup box will appear, press the purple button.

The app will automatically install SuperUser.
This program connects to servers oversea sending hardware information. The downloads a script that will attempt to root the device. If the first script fails, it downloads additional ones. Future goal is monitor this communication with a data logger and find which script works, so that a unique program can be written to achieve root.

You do not really need to install TWRP unless you wanna mod the rom yourself, if you mod roms you will know that already.
- a.t.m. you need a mouse to use TWRP because touch is not working yet
- if you install TWRP, you will probably not be able to update the update.img and mcu.img the way it was explained above.

Modded Apps

Install app without adb when regular install does not work
Sometimes the app won't install normally and you need to sideload it.. This means that you need a computer and adb wifi. There is another way with which you won't need a computer. You just need to install a terminal emulator (you need root ).

1- Download the terminal emulator app you prefer
2- Download the app you want to install to /mnt/sdcard
3- Open terminal emulator
4- On the terminal navigate to /mnt/sdcard by typing

- cd /mnt/sdcard
- su
- pm install "NameOfTheApp".apk

Done, you are app is now installed.

ISSUES

Unfortunately the first issues with the promising unit arrived.

• @webdude12 got a black screen while driving due to a broken clip (see attachment to figure out which one). One solution is to glue the clip so that it does not get loose. Not doing that can end up in major problems.
  
• Unit might not boot on very hot conditions as it has a thermostate to avoid possible problems. It will work normally when cooled down.
  
• Some apps do not show completely in the screen due to the low resolution. However, there's a great solutions for that:
  - you need root
  
  - install xposed framework (google it)
  - probably you need to sideload the apk with ADB as the unit refuses to install it normally.
  - install "app settings" module in xposed framework (you can change dpi for individual apps and make them fit in the screen)​
• When add a google account, it doesn't show under accounts

• Wifi or buttons do not work after update to 1.86 or 1.99 firmware versions
  
  
  - This happens because the MCU or kernel of the new version is not adequate for your unit. Luckily MCUs and kernels are mixable for the same unit.
  - It looks like the best combination is:
  - Firmware v1.99/v2.02
  - MCU v1.86
  - Kernel 1.77
  
  fix --> Install 1.99 firmware with 1.86 MCU normally. Then install kernel of 1.77

It is not logical. The garantee is of the equipment or the owner.

i already found that link and this is the unique link that you know and that i found . this link not say that radio is good.

but if you search in youtub you saw a lot them with radio work bad at this model and similar models.

i ask you a question where buy a good amplifier inline for mercedes (fakra conetion) and you didnt answer.

i knew that ww need amplifier but when you sell you dont tell us that mercedes need amplifier.

, ...... to other people saw that you sell equipment that don't work at radio or work very bad (with the amplifier and the blue wire is conect to 12v remote amp) if the car is driving. when car is stop works well what it found.

I have the same radio with the same problem. In the end I bought a connects2 radio harness and rewired the harness to replace the canbus box
