Since the internal mic is rubbish, i ordered an external mic. From reading this thread I learned that a Parrot microphone works the best. So I ordered it and installed it.
Now the sound on the other end is louder than before and somewhat more clear, but still isn't loud enough and has some static in the background.

Anyone else experience this? Does static mean that I have a bad ground ??

I have the unit for E46, Focal 165 A1 speakers, JL Audio subwoofer and both speakers and subwoofer are amplified. I have what is called alternator whine and buzzing sound. How do I get rid of it?

I checked the ground wire to the amplifier.

Finally I worked out how to update my MCU guys, like I said before my HU wouldn’t update from GPS card slot only way to update the FW was putting the update.img with mcu.img in the internal /mcn/sdcard but the “not found” error for mcu.img got me thinking since most guys here update from GPS card slot, I placed a system.img and mcu.img in the internal sdcard root and only one mcu.img in to GPS card slot to see if it grabbed it from there and that worked, probably somehow my unit is checking the MCU update in gps card slot and the FW update in the internal flash, maybe it will upgrade from anywhere now since the mcu is upgraded from 1.70 to 1.77
I am not going to try that after couple days of struggling with this crap :p

Running 2.02 FW and 1.77 MCU now:

Thanks to those who were trying help me out, I really appreciate it :)
Great you finally figured out how to update your MCU!

in the market as well!

how did things go for you? I am in the market right now for one. I saw the Xtrons on sale right now but like to get some feedback.

My must have are:

Well for the most part I like the mirroring capability. In fact I think about just require audio indash to have hdmi input and just hook chromecast into it.

Xtrons have hdmi but it look to be external, I am looking for something internal. Also with these indash have touch screen, once sync with cell phone via chromecast/or mirror can you just touch and access full control via the screen from cell phone?

I mean to say using phone as the hardward and the brain while accessing control via indash for large screen real estate and safety of not fumbling with cell phone while driving. We all changes phone usually about every 2 years anyway so I don't put too much value on the indash tech as much as ability to use the cell phone as the brain. Anyone follow me? Thanks!

Hi guys, I've been researching the hell out of these units, and my head is spinning with all the configurations... hope I'm not hijacking this long thread, but since I'm deciding between a Huifei type model and some of these others, any advice would be great. Plus maybe this info will help others avoid repeating my legwork. Er...fingerwork? lol :)

Option #1: Eonon gm5163. This one has
- best looking face (its made for my mazda 3)
- awesome screen mirroring and 8" display
- better support than the generic clones
- but the win ce6 and 800x480 screen is looking a tad outdated for $380 ...
http://www.eonon.com/Car-GPS/Specific-Car-GPS/Mazda/GM5163.html

#2 Xtrons: TD729A+A1 or Td730A $380
- android 4.0 ( with detachable tablet face!) or 4.1 with tilt screen
- better looking GUI (dual core ARM9)
- but same 800x480, no screen mirror, needs dash kit bezel, less support than eonon.

http://www.amazon.com/XTRONS-Androi...ie=UTF8&qid=1405636018&sr=1-1&keywords=td730a

#3 Ugode (which might be a huifei?) DG6068 for around $340
- great specs: android 4.2, 8" screen, 1024x600, dual core 1GHZ with optional mirror link, fits my mazda.
- but it's total generic china clone from alibaba. :/
http://ugode.en.alibaba.com/product..._600_WIFI_3G_Dual_Core_Bluetooth_and_GPS.html

and lastly...
#4 CA-FI 80100 $575
- android 4.1
- custom fit for my mazda 3
- 1024x600 AND 8" screen!
- dashlinq lets you screen mirror and control the HU with your device (and vice versa, I think)
- 16 band EQ! (the others only had 2 or 3 bands, but some can fix that with apps)
- seems to have the most solid rep of the china units.
http://store.ca-fi.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=133_139&product_id=308

There are like 3-5 others I am looking at which are very similar to these... but I am so sick of research, I am almost ready to just buy a 8" tablet and velcro it to my dash. lol

Thanks for reading all this, and for any advice (or pointers to other threads I missed). :)

And where is it that they are being sold at?

And with this new hardware, does this mean the 800 units may soon have a end of life date for OS development ?

Did a clean install. .. no extra software, still get the system ui error every now and then. Definitely not only 3rd party software installs

Inderdaad!

I checked the ground wire to the amplifier.

We are going little off topic here since it is not related to the HU but here it goes.

I think it is still ground problem, but when it comes to ground problem there is always some investigation involved, first how thick is your ground wire to the radio and amplifier, did you check your ground wire/mesh wire from battery to chassis and grounding between the alternator and the chassis? Grounding in the amplifier could be a problem, there are lot factors which can cause ground loop sound.

Best way to check if there is a problem in your car or amplifier is to make a direct thick ground wire from the battery to the amplifier and make sure connections are good and keep the wire short as possible. Since the battery in a E46 is in the back that should be easy to test.

There are ground loop noise isolators on the market, some may work some not it is always gamble with ground loop noise:

Chromcast

Anybody ever thought of just casting the screen via Chromecast dongle to hdmi input and be done with signal/wifi problem?

I now too suffer from the wifi dropout, I did a factory reset and thats when the issue came up. Going to try to reflash and see if it goes away, as I. Ant download a file now without a connection drop :(

Using 2.03? I put that on my GS and haven't run into it yet.

I'm wondering if it's the MTCFunkey app. It overlays the menu and home/apps buttons on the statusbar, which affects the SystemUI.

Pioneer did exactly this with their AppRadio series of headunits. I've had two of them in the past, and they're not as useful as one would think. First off, using your phone as the brains for a car nav unit sucks, mostly because phones overheat when running HDMI out, GPS and navigation software for extended periods of time. Even with apps like Screen Standby, which reduce the screen brightness to zero, the phone will still get really hot and either stop charging, or start losing battery while still charging.

Secondly, there's always a need for an app to coordinate screen touches and app launching. For the AppRadios, this was done with Pioneer AppRadio app, which blocked what apps could be run over the mirroring. You could bypass this with apps such as ARLiberator or ARUnchained, but they too had their own limitations.

Hi guys I have a question, is there a way to change font colors on the HU without decomplying and such? Is there a Xposed module for this? I installed BusyBox, Xblast Tools but Xblast won’t let me change the colors in there, maybe it is not compatible with our HU.

This is how far I got with gravity box but I want app names red too:

Since nobody offered any advice, I gave up on indash. Instead of spending $300-$600 indash, I bought a Oneplus One phone and magnetic dash mount. Now I have a hi-def 5.5" screen with a 2.5ghz snapdragon, running custom built Cyanogenmod, in my car AND in my pocket. I only spend about 10 hours a week in my car, so upgrading from my S4 to this made more sense. The phone was $380, sold my S4 for $180, so with the mount I spent $220.
I mounted it where I can point an air vent at it, so it doesn't overheat running pandora + navigation + sigalert. Since I don't care about playing videos indash, this works great for me, and now I have a badass new phone everywhere I go, instead of an expensive toy in my car , which sits mostly empty all day. It bluetooths in audio, and I can still voice control it, so I am happy.

good luck!
