Steering Wheel Controls - KGL Model for Volkswagen

There seems to be no way for me to change the steering wheel key assignments. When I try to change it from the Android settings, I do reset but then, no matter what I press on my steering wheel, noting happens on the setup screen. There are 3 pre-defined sets for Volkswagen in the "Factory Settings" menu. They work for the most part but need some fine tuning. For example, some of them reverse the "next / previous" buttons on the steering wheel.

I have searched through this thread but found no clear answers to this problem. A configuration file for the SWC keys was mentioned in one post, but I was not successful finding it. Any idea what to do with that?

I have a S07 model for Volkswagen, 8-in screen version 1024x600, with no turn knobs. MTCB-KGL4-V2.08, Android 4.4.4. Original as delivered.

I have also tried many things to customize them, but for my part i haven't found anything to do so on the settings panel to change that.

I have been struggling with my Joying RK3188 unit for 3 days now, I think I have a defective digitizer, I hope not but well, my problem is the following. I can't seem to register any action properly on the touch screen. In fact, there is only an area at the bottom (i circled it in green on the picture) that is responsive (and not very well i should mention).

I have tried, resetting everyting, installing the new mcu and firmware then resetting, nothing seems to help.
Please give me opinions, it's brand new, i have it since less than 2 weeks and i feel helpless because Car Joying is not answering anymore...

Earlier dsa8310 wrote a direct contact. She (Jacky) works at Klyde factory, and could help to buy a quad-core SoM. Her e-mail : [email protected] .

I read through almost all of this, and with all the firmwares and roms, I want to make sure I am doing the right thing. I bought a Pumpkin KD-C0224 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VJRGA8E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A35ICIJD64TUP8) and overall am very happy with it. It has the following:
MCU Version: MTCB-KLD2-V2.52 April 22 2015 16:19:18
Android Version: 4.4.4_14042015
Kernal version 3.0.36+ [email protected] #1140

Just to be clear,
  • I can install any Malaysk or Coudu ROM without having to install a custom recovery by placing the rom on the GPS sd card and starting the unit? If I want to go back, is there an image of the ROM I have?
  • I am not doing it for root, I only want to use a better equalizer. The stock one is, as we all know, garbage.
  • I am not plannign on updating the MCU, but when the time comes, I can use any KDL MCU, correct? I dont have to look for a KDL2 MCU update?

Thanks everyone. Shane.
You dont need custom recovery, place on GPS card as first page says. There are loads of images going back over a year on the fileserver if you want to go back.
What do you mean about the equaliser ? - The equaliser is MCU controlled you could only have a different one by using Viper4Andoid, poweramp or similar, you dont need root for poweramp, you do for Viper.
It is best to always run the latest MCU, unless it causes a problem, in which case downgrade, problems are very rare though. You can only use a different version of the MCU you have, so if its KLD2, then you can only use KLD2 updates without problems (at least for now).

Hello all. Excellent thread and ROMs as always.

I purchased a JY unit, sold as Joying on eBay. Unit works well, can't complain. I like having physical buttons, so I picked this unit - only wish I could have gotten one without the disc drive. This is Item 331538935201 on eBay if anyone is interested. I loaded one of the MLD ROMs, only issue is the notification center and weather widget in there are kinda funky.

Two quick questions... What's the best way to improve wifi connectivity? I was thinking of cracking open the unit and redoing the antenna cable to have a SMA connector on the back so I can use a better external antenna... But is there any way I can use a USB wifi adapter? I do wireless and networking stuff for a living, so I've learned how important it is to have your radio directly plugged into your antenna rather than using a long extender cable.

Second question:

Where do we stand with remapping the physical keys? I have a TV button that literally does nothing, my volume knob pushes to mute (but I also have a mute button... redundant), and would like to make at least the MEDIA key go to Spotify.

Thanks for any help, or if anyone wants to know about any details from my unit, let me know.

If anyone needs hosting for ROMs, images, etc... I have plenty of servers and bandwidth available. I'd like to give back as much as I can to you guys for working hard on making all of this.
As numerous posts in the thread say, fitting a better wifi antenna helps reception. If you were feeling adventurous you could fit a different wifi card. You could try a usb wifi dongle if there is such a thing, unless you meant 3G, in which case theres loads of info in the thread. Remapping hard buttons, not possible so far, theyre MCU controlled.

I have the same problem. I have a seat exeo with the same mcu. I think there is no possibility to change the predefined settings

Is there any way to emulate a light sensor on this units in order to make auto dimming? I now that it is o xposed but will it also work for GPS day and night too?
XMTC can do auto dimming based on sunrise and sunset times calculated for the time of year and your location based on GPS info using the algorithm found here via the sunrisesunsetlib-java library by mike reedell.

If your SWCs are handled through a canbus adapter, I don't believe you can use the remapping feature in Settings.

Any screenshots ?
Re: my Android Auto app.

No, there is no user interface at this time. The app just starts and hopefully goes into video mode for Android Auto.

So the only screenshots I could show would just be standard Android Auto shots you can see all over the Internet.

There will be a configuration UI in future, and possibly some controls that wrap the AA video, or can float over it.

tt40 reported this on my thread:

Tried it on my HuiFei headunit and it did not work. I get a black screen. When I try to back out of it it says the application has stopped.

I have a KGL model with RK3066 CPU and 1024x600 screen. Android 4.4.4

So what is it exactly ? Some sort of screen mirroring app that mirrors your phone ?

You are saying that if unit has canbus box (one that comes with the HU) that is used to convert canbus button presses to swc (analog) that HU uses, you cant remap the buttons in the settings?
If so, why is that? How HU knows that it isn't standard swc?

you can take the screen off without breaking the warranty seal :) and check cables connecting screen to the mother board. there're a lot of images of internals for these devices and they all are more o less the same.

From what I remember when I looked through the canbus apks, canbus signals are handled by the decoder, then sent to the MCU via serial, where the MCU decides to either pass it through to Android, or handle it directly. For SWC, the MCU probably handles it directly, and then just broadcasts the intents for those specific button presses.

Eventually I hope to build in button remapping into XMTC, and based on the initial thoughts floating around in my head, it should work with canbus swc as well. No ETA as to when I'll be able to focus on it though.

A few weeks ago, i bought a new unit for my car as the last one had issues the seller didn't want to deal with under warranty and forced me to pay for a refund :)mad:) - anyway....

Take a look at the photos i've attached.
It seems we have a new maker and new firmware to add to the OP (Un-less someone could alert me if it's a re-branded JY/KGL/KLD/etc).

I want to flash a rooted rom (as there currently isn't a way to root 4.4.4 roms). Just need a way (other than TWRP - but need root for that) to back-up the current rom incase things go sour. If anybody could point out to a post that can assist me, i'd be really grateful :)

Hmm, interesting, I like that front, its similar to the Newsmy NU3001U.

Another new make ! Wonder if we ll see a few more, or whether theyll be like YZ, MX and Roadmaster and we ll hardly see any ?

Cant back up your ROM without root, cant root without flashing a new ROM, so theres your answer. Things are highly unlikely to "go sour" just flashing a ROM and even if they did, all the software on the Android side of things is interchangeable and the same as all the other units apart from different launchers, so you d be able to recover by flashing another ROM. Its more if you like your launcher and want to keep it after root, or something that youd need a copy.

Anything different about the ROM it came with ? Does it have a different launcher, or is it like one of the others ?

You could ask your seller for an update or a copy of the ROM.

Great info - do you have any idea how to access the canbus data that is passed through to Android? Is it something like a socketcan interface?
