I've been trying to find some information on getting the TrueSmart connected to my S4. I've found references to something called Osmart, and downloading additional apps from the play store, however to my knowledge Osmart does not exist and I have not been able to find any other info. Does anyone know what the status of this functionality is? Is this still being developed? is there a working solution?

Both apps are BETA releases right now so not all features work.

If you want to use it as a companion device you need OSmart Master (on your phone) and OSmart Companion (on your watch).

To get access to the OSmart Master app you need to join the Omate TrueSmart Developers G+ community and then sign up as a tester for the OSmart Master app

To get the companion app you need to download and install it from the OStore

It is currently being updated.
Unfortunately, Kurt been trying to get his updated version into OStore for the last 2 months without any luck. I got his latest copy before X-mas (he emailed it to me). As far as I can tell there are still issues, and I wasn't able to get it to work reliably with my Note 2. Some notifications get displayed, others don't, and often I had to reboot TrueSmart to restart the app to continue working. It's a bit disappointing but you have to keep in mind that Kurt is doing this in his spare time out of the goodness of his heart. Omate original intention for TrueSmart is to have standalone watch used with SIM or wi-fi, not bleutooth tethered like Pebble or MetaWatch.

Now with a larger worldwide deployment of TrueSmart, they will be more focused on support of main TS functionality rather than "bonus" bt tethering, I'm afraid...

I just find it all extremely disappointing. Kurt should NOT have to develop this on his own in his spare time. Omates backers deserve better. I backed this campaign not only because of its independent functionality but because of the promise Omate made that this watch will work as a companion. It's there in black and white and color for all to see, in fact it's the first thing you see when you view the kickstarter page:

Omate® TrueSmart™ truly standalone water-resistant smartwatch, works independently from and with all smartphones. 3G, Voice & Gestures!

I'm not sure what you're source for this information is, but I truly hope you are mistaken otherwise the list of broken promises grows as this was never considered a bonus feature by us backers.

Would like to point out a couple things;

Work with far more devices than the Gear. (when you can find the app)
Is one of a very few Android based smartwatches that supports a companion mode. The AW-420 and other x201 don't even offer this as a possiblity.
Is the only watchphone that I know of that even supports a companion mode (a there are a ton of these around).
Kurt is an employee of Omate.

And this is all with BETA apps on a BETA device that has not even reached the retail market yet.

Kurt is contracted to make these apps.

Good luck getting any non-Samsung phone to work well with the Gear.

Contract or not this was a core feature for many backers, Nobody should be developing this app in their spare time.

Since my last communication with Kurt was before x-mas and my info about Omate priority of TS being standalone device came from video interview given by Laurent to Smartwatchfan website during CES, obviously my info is not up to date, so I would listen to Kuronosan update as an official confirmation.

You fund the development of a product and join a developers forum and then complain about a lack of final run features.

If you want a final product, go to Best Buy. If you want to be on the bleeding edge, Kickstarter and XDA-Developers are your friends.

Spare me that old song and dance. I think that lone has been plagiarized enough. Perhaps if you bothered to read my posts you would understand. I have no issues with the availability of these features at launch. I do, however have issue when a company that raised over a million dollars hires one guy to develop a core feature in his spare time. I also have issues when SD cards and spare batteries are sent separate from a device with a note basically saying if you install them you will void your warranty. Perhaps in backward world this makes sense, but not in this one.

What part about contract work are you unfamiliar with?

I'm well famiar with contract work, that doesn't mean that I agree with how omate is handling the development of this core feature.

By your logic simply because I understand what the NSA is doing I should agree with it.

I agree with Loki; hw is finalized and the SW is still in beta testing. That is a whole idea of KS/IGG project deadline to get hw in the hands of backers. SW can be updated with yet another patch, hw fixes are much harder to handle. BUT, at the same time I'm happy to see current TS owners voicing their opinion about importance of Companion app. For a lot of us, a basic smartwatch principle has been defined by Pebble/Metawatch notification model. TS is a fantastic standalone device, especially if you are not on Verizon (lol!!!). But for a lot of other people who find their Pebble/Metawatch to be limited, myself included, we are looking for TS to be a super smartwatch to take us there.

As long as Omate guys are not dropping a ball on bt tethering (for notification purposes), we need to wait until they prioritize their work to get there. And if we still talking about this 6 months from now, then you have all the rights to get pissed :D

Your logic is terrible, and so are you.

Just leave. Please. Everyone here is already tired of your bad inferences and faulty logic.

Go complain on the Cyanogen or OMNI topics about how "X feature isn't implemented wtf" and see how quickly you're laughed out of the topic. You clearly have no clue how development works.

This is my thread, I'm not going anywhere. You clearly can't handle what I have to say for whatever reason. It's like having a conversation with a 5 year old. You run out of things to say so you resort to name calling and saying go away.

For the mature people here, I'm not going to debate whether this device should be considered a beta device or not, or whether the fact that it's a kickstarter automatically renders it so. I will, however state that I have read every bit of information available on the truesmart and at no point does it state that this is a beta watch. Some of you might argue that it's a given considering it's a kickstarter. Well then, at what point is a kickstarter device deemed ready to release? At hardwares completion? Once an os is installed? Perhaps once the device meets all its advertised specifications? None of the above? We could debate this for days. However, this thread has gotten so far off topic at this point, I'll leave it at that.
