Didn't I read on here that it does have a tuner chip that might just need to be activated? I'm sure it was on these forums...

- yes, terrible. My nexus 7 can't even peel potatoes or wash the dishes. What a cheek!Nexus 7 has not any radio!!!(The good old fashioned analog radio not an Internet radio app)
Errrr... the headphone jack?!? Like all the smart phones you've had with FM radio.I can't imagine FM reception being high up on a lot of tablet users' wishlists honestly. Most of my smartphones had an FM tuner that I'd use from time to time, but the quality of the tuners is usually pretty bad. Now I usually use my Grundig G8 Traveller portable radio when I want to listen to FM radio on the go. MUCH better receiver than any phone.
Even if it has a chip capable of FM reception, there is no antenna connection, so there is simply no way to get FM radio on our Nexus 7s.
Actually, what I meant is that the antenna pin on the processor itself isn't connected (hardware issue). From the Spirit FM App page (under the "Devices that probably will never be able to support FM" section)Errrr... the headphone jack?!? Like all the smart phones you've had with FM radio.
