well I honestly dont know where to start but here is the story on why I won't be getting another sony product regardless of playstation, camera etc

I purchase Xperia Z when it was quite new in the market around July 2013 . 7 Months after it launch I think well back then I really loved the phone alot given it being the first water proof phone it's something unique. My phone never gave me any issue until 1 week ago when I noticed

I experience something like this : http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/Problem-with-xperia-z-calls/td-p/479577/page/2

so I decided to sent my phone for servicing to get it check on why is it facing such a issue ? so the phone was running stock firmware with everything working fine, expect the calls issues I mention and battery drainage, the customer service told me they have to sent my phone to the technician for a check regrading this issue as they cant debug it and they told me that the phone should be ready within 1 week . As the week past I decided to check if the phone was indeed serviced

http://www.sony.com.sg/section/repair

the job number that I was issued with appeared invalid ??? so I decided to call the service center to check whats wrong, apparently they told me that the phone was being repaired and they will get back to me.

so as a few days passed, I decided to check the job number again it appeared invalid, attempting to reach the service center took awhile. When I finally did get through the line I told them of the issue that the job number seems to be invalid, the person told me he will try to expedite the issue to their service center, received a call about 2 hours later stating that there was no reply from the service center and they will get back to me, so now this is where things got out of hand..

apparently I was on the way home from night shift the following day, when I received a call from one of their service centre stating that if anyone have called you regrading about my phone, I told them nope no one did at all and he told me the phone can be collected within 2 days time but I will have to pay $300 Dollars for a full motherboard replacement despite my phone is covered on warranty, The guy I spoke to insisted that there was some modification done to the phone and kept on asking if I did anything to the phone overall for the past 10 Minutes he kept asking me the same stuff over and over again this was rather a interrogation going on about my phone and told me that I have damaged my phone and the only way they have to do a full motherboard replacement which I will have to pay

after which he asked if the phone was ever messed with apparently the software is on locked down ? and the techinian cant do anything without a motherboard replacement  WTF I was using the phone just fine when I sent it to the service centre.

the guy told me that the technician detected some kind of modification being done to the phone, I told him that I did android development and that does not affected the phone he claims the application is 3rd party and because of that the phone needs a full motherboard replacement (again he repeated the same stuff again), He told me he will let his technician know about it and get back to me asap, so I waited no one called....

when I called the service centre and told them regrading the issue, they will get someone back to me, so I received a call and AGAIN the same old stuff was repeated stating that they received information that I claim the phone was modified and refused to listen to whatever I have to say... and I have requested to collect the phone without any repairs to be done to it why would anyone want to pay 300 Dollars for..

I found it strange that I was subsequently interrogated about my phone(apparently they are claiming I have damaged my own phone) , I had this phone close to 1 year + without any issues as the issue I claim earlier as part of wear and tear and It is something that is inevitable, they went on from hardware issue to software issue just to find something so I could be liability for the damage and have to pay for the full service charges.. I'm extremely disappointed over such behavior of a company

as of now my device is dead, and getting a new cell is going take time :(

lol I love such posts...

so you hate whole company just because you encounter one lame service center? xD epic! really!

Im gonna hate nutella because in one shop I could not find it! xD

In my country is really good and user friendly service center of Sony and really bad service center of Samsung. So its mean that WHOLE SAMSUNG COMPANY IS BAD? xD
guess what? No. its not bad.

You are bad at judging something by ONE really small part of whole company ecosystem.
Sony like any other company sell hundreds of models of different devices and just because in one country you found bad support that is not really realated to devices it doesnt mean that its bad, and just like you said:
I had this phone close to 1 year + without any issues
what is the point of saying that you not gonna support this company if you didnt had any issues? really I love such idiotic logic: ""I hate whole company that create hundred models of different devices because I found something bad in my device/support center""

He had a bad experience with them. I believe he's justified in going elsewhere in future. It's basically the biggest power any consumer has. They won't get the chance to do it to him again.

I got shafted by LG's incompetent handling of the Optimus 2X, therefore will never purchase anything of theirs again, no matter how great their newer devices look.

apparently the modification they were referring to was a unlocked bootloader. apparently when I decided to unlock the bootloader they seems to know that I did it last time so restoring it with DRM keys it is quite useless

http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/

Code:
Openness is important to Sony, and you can now unlock the boot loader for a wide range of Sony devices.
so it seems like sony allows you to unlock the bootloader but they cant relock it for you, this was the issue with the sony service centre they claim that because of a unlock bootloader they cant do anything, cant they even relock it ?

anyway the issue has been resolved, hopefully once I get my phone back I will let you guys know

It is clearly stated on their bootloader unlocking page that doing so will void warranty. They were clearly correct on pinning the blame on you for it.

Voiding the warranty
If you unlock the boot loader, you may void the warranty of your device and/or any warranty from your operator. See your device’s warranty statement for details. Additionally, due to the modified device software, Sony’s repair network will likely have to replace key components before it can properly test, repair and verify your device using our repair tools and software. Consequently, if Sony performs a warranty repair, Sony will likely charge you a significant service fee for the additional costs caused by your modification of the software.

LOL. They would not have to replace the motherboard because the bootloader is unlocked. The issue seems to be that they were trying to charge for unnecessary work. It would have been prudent to relock and flash stock firmware though.

Also, FYI, that doesn't apply in any European Union member state. Unlocking/flashing doesn't void warranty there by law (I know it doesn't apply here, but it proves the passage you quoted isn't necessarily true).

I'll bet the unfortunate users who accidentally flash a Samsung kernel, which totally fries the bootloader partition and hard bricks the device, get a replacement. Borked bootloader = no way to check if locked or unlocked :D

Note how it says "may", and not "will"

Perhaps but that could have just been miscommunication or tech support dumbing down terms. But the fact remains Sony warns you that ahead. As for the actions of their "Service Center" I've learned to not trust all of them completely. (Not just from Sony but all the other companies)

Yeah, but may still means it has a chance to still.

Not sure how them saying they have to replace the motherboard can be miscommunicated.
Seems like they were just trying to dodge repairing under warranty by any means necessary. This sort of behaviour isn't unusual for any consumer electronics company though.

Sending a phone in for repair with an unlocked bootloader is just asking for a "warranty void" scenario. Either re-lock bootloader by restoring TA partition, with DRM keys intact, or just fry the bootloader, so they can't see what you did:beer:

+1. I live in the UK which is an EU member, so they cannot legally deny warranty due to an unlocked bootloader, but I would still restore my TA backup before sending my device for repair.

However, if the problem is a known fault not associated with unlocking the bootloader as this seems to be, then I believe they should just repair it in warranty instead of trying to dodge it. This sort of thing only creates bad feeling and loss of future sales.

well here is an update I got back my phone from sony mobile

PCB was replaced together with

Ear Speaker 12.0 Rectangular_WR
FPC Assembly Relay FPC
Cover Panel Top Black
Foil adhesive back panel
Sheet battery FPC
Foil adhesive double black
C6603 Cupper sheet McamB
Cap audio jack Assy R black
Cap USB Assy R Black
Cap SD Assy R Black
Cap SIM Assy R Black
Front Assembly Black RoW

there also said they have tested the phone excessively and certified the phone is up to sony satisfaction, I came to a conclusion that the hardware was defected, when I first purchase the lcd had some stuck pixel now it is gone well back then it did not bother me so much also the speaker volume better, and the ear speaker was changed which was initially the start of the issue as for the bootloader issue everything has been

as for drm key it was never restored

I have no idea how to check the bootloader is locked or unlocked ? maybe someone can guide me through that

Why are people posting the news about Android L in unrelated threads?

We all know already! :D

Look in the service menu. Service info -> Configuration. It will say under rooting status.
