Missing Contacts app

I'm really stumped! I need the Contacts application (Google) and my browser bookmarks associated with my account. The Contacts app is nowhere to be found in my apps folder or /system/app, although the apps for Contacts Sync and Contacts Provider are there. I also don't have any bookmarks associated with the stock browser which usually also come over from my google account. I've tried side loading the Contacts.apk to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions or understanding of this circumstance??

Edit.. problem solved by finding contacts.apk, putting in /system/app folder, changing permissions to r/w and installing. Key is setting permissions in Root Explorer to R/W. Also located browser bookmarks.sync and installed. Now have People app and browser has all my bookmarks. Happy.

The last word I got from Tragidy was that he was going back to the chinese forum that he use to work at. But Androidtablets.net went and eddited and removed the URL to the forum.

I'm going to just briefly address this because I am getting private messages from people about this. This will be my only post on the subject.

A while ago I found out that Tradigy had taken posts of mine on unbricking tablets and released them as his on on dorkfiles, so I made a comment requesting that his posts be linked back to the source since I was overhauling the unbricking guide with new information. In my opinion his reaction wasn't great. I then started getting a large amount of private messages for help unbricking Ainol Crystal tablets and found out that those people had been flashing the ROM Crystal Light and it wasn't working. I tried to point out why some of Tradigy's ROM's, like Crystal Light, were bricking people's devices in that thread. He did not take kindly to the posts and I didn't want a fight, so I left it at that and didn't comment on any of his other threads since then. I later found out that an androidtablets.net user had uncovered that Tradigy had released "compatibility zips" that were made by a development partner as mine for my ROM and had no possibility of working with his.

Recently Tragidy claimed that I pirated Tapatalk HD and put it into my ROM illegally. This was untrue, the .apk was in my "additional apps" package and was the BETA version of Tapatalk HD that was distributed by Tapatalk for testing purposes. You can see the thread that it came from here. I am a heavy user of Tapatalk, a fan of their app and the BETA was legal to distribute and would help the developers work out the bugs for their official release, so I included it in my package. After the app left BETA and was released officially in the app store, I updated the "additional apps" package and removed the app. His claims of piracy were unwarranted and I would never knowingly distribute any pirated software. I'm the type of guy that will download the "donation" version of free apps or buy someone's "pay what you want" music album for $20. Just to be clear, Tragidy is not the developer of Tapatalk, you can visit the official website here and support the developers if you'd like or go buy the app in the play store because the new tablet version is awesome.

Apparently there were other claims about me but I haven't gotten any details. Even with proof that he was incorrect, his reaction was to threaten to sue this website and to go full on drama. So that's the story. If you choose to install any of his ROM's in the future, I suggest that you know how to unbrick your device or verify from another user that the ROM is fully functional and running well. I've heard Light Elf is a great ROM so he could develop other great ROM's as well but it's good practice to always be careful what you flash to your device.

I don't know what you guys had against each other, In fact I really don't care. Let me just say this while, we appreciated the warning, now it looks more like you were bad mouthing him on slatedroid prior to all of this. I am not blaming either of you. people make mistakes and there are others that just won't let things go. Everyone here takes risks with there device and choose who to trust with the roms they use. Smart people wait for someone to confirm. impatient people are the first to try. The people that should be first to try the roms should be the people that are most skill at unbricking. If they are not they will learn fast or spend a lot of money on hardware. This has always been a risk/reward thing.

It is just a shame that people cannot get along and have to act like children and the community is the only one that suffers.

If i have to weed through a bunch of drama just to get updates on development I will not be frequenting that type of thread.

Please just make it stop. and if you like drama please keep it to yourself, and don't sling it around the community or it will be the end of it all. Nobody likes to be given crap after spending his personal time hard at work on a project that nobody wants to work on. Just seems that the one person who was working on the A31 was chased off. AND That is unfortunate!

Onda v972 v1.32 certain apps no longer install

Can anyone explain to me why certain apk may or may not appear as available in google play depending on the version of firmware installed e.g. Tripview Sydney available under v1.2 but not v1.32.

I have the same problem. Previously "Event Cinema", "TripView Lite" and "Live Traffic" would all load and run perfectly. Now they wont load from the store, or will not install manually. Does anyone know solution ?

I think the build.prop file in v1.21 must have been different, Has any one been able to alter it in this vesion to correct the compatiability problem ?

Just got my tablet in yesterday. Pretty much from what I can see, all the apps that I need show up in the market on the v1.21. Now for those that didn't show up I just went and downloaded the market called mobile1. Everything else was there for me to install so. Still im going to upgrade to 1.32 so I can root, install CWM and install SuperNova, I know Steve who did it, is suppose to alter it this weekend. Either way I'm going to play with the build.prop. See what I can do with it.

Actually, my Onda is seen as a Nexus 7, but this doesn't allow me to download or sideload some apps anyway, for example Grindr, FakeGPS and so.
I would like to know if there's a line in the build.prop that let the market think that we have GPS, because all the apps that use a GPS (but they don't depend from them!) can't be installed or sideloaded! :(

bricked Chuwi v99 quad - bootloop into recovery

hello diquan2001,

have almost the same problem, Chuwi V99 quad core (not rooted ...anymore) has a boot loop into Android system recovery. So all i can do
is update through external sdcard or use adb partly (adb Shell wont work due to tablet not rooted ... emmc, system, ... not mounted).

Tried already to flash the stock image via Phoenixsuit, but am stuck on the start (starts updating, but the format window does not pop up, and
thus the progress bar stays at the beginning)

Using Android commander it wont find any folders on my Chuwi, but i can see them in recovery mode ... very strange. When i try to push files
onto my chuwi it seems to work, but i think they get deleted after each restart (not sure since i can not see my root directory).

Do u have any idea how to fix this.

Appreciate any help.

so long tschibui

I don`t think this a "missing GPS" problem.
My old (non-GPS) Allwinner A10 tablet is able to install all of these GPS apps.
BUT: I could install Sygic GPS navigation and GPS-toolbox without any problems on my Onda V972.

Custom ROM (iOS?)

Hi, I've been considering getting one of these tablets. However, I have one question. Are there any custom ROMs for this tablet? If there are I wonder if there are any iOS themed ROMs as it looks quite alot like a iPad.

what your most probably referring to can be accomplished with using a launcher such as nova, or ADW and using a IOS theme. There are a Iot of IOS themes.

Launcher recommendation

I have a very good recommendation for a launcher. Go find Espier Launcher v2.0.6. It's on the Playstore, but it said it wasn't available for my V972. However, I found it elsewhere and sideloaded it. I REALLY LIKE THIS LAUNCHER!!! I have been searching for a simple IOS-like launcher and Espier is it!!!! It looks, feels, and functions almost identical to an Ipad IOS environment, only with the obvious Android apps. When my college daughter saw it she thought I had bought an Ipad 4 Retina LOL!! Give it a try and you might really like it as I do. I have found a new every day launcher, and I've tried them all (Nova, Apex, Go, Pro, Lightning, Quick, etc). Expier is not only pretty, but it is buttery smooth, no lag!! I highly recommend! See my homescreen screenshot attached. Notice IOS look, but the Android notification bar at the bottom.

but then what are they talking about??

V972 DOEN'T has GPS, but you csn still try to vanigate with maps and a tethered connection.
Anyhow, the problem is that I can't install any GPS app, even "Fake GPS" that simulate a GPS on the tablet.
In addiction I can't install PayPal and other e-banking apps :(

Okay guys a quick update. Not sure, if I should be posting it here but I will still go ahead as we dont have a dedicated development thread yet.

So last night I studied the partitions, extracted the stock recovery img and tried to build cwm recovery from the cwm online builder. I pushed it on to the recovery partition, and rebooted into recovery. Finally I did manage to get the cwm recovery interface but too bad it did not recognize my partitions. Worse, I ended up bricking my device as it went in cwm loop and on every restart I just got cwm with no keys working. :crying:

Luckily I knew that Allwinner A31 is almost brick free because the Installation suite doesn't rely on recovery and use flash mode to install firmware. So I am up and running again. I just repartioned to be sure. :good::good:

I'll keep going. I realize now that the A10 also has similar paritions structure, maybe I could get help from there. For anyone interested I am attaching the recovery.fstab which u can refer to extarct images using dd command.

PM me or write here if anyone needs the recovery or boot images. I already have then extracted. Sorry for the long post.
There is just one thing thats been bothering me. How we supposed to use CWM even if we get it working with just two keys on the tablet? Maybe I should directly try cwm touch.

Thanks. I'll keep you guys posted.

onda has not enabled any power managment features of the tablet yet. There is a power managment chip, and the A31 has power managment as well not being used. The A31 is being ran at 1ghz even when idle. If you factor that in with battery life right now at 4-4.5 hours , just think what it should get once those features are enabled.

I have 2 of these and one of mine I was messing with for over 4 hours (installing apps rooting upgrading/downgrading firmware, ect) and it was at 69% I have not had any of the browser lag, however every so often when going into google play I get no connection retry. This has happened to me with all of my tablets so not sure if this is wifi power managment or not.

I have read about some quality control issues with some units, but both of mine seem to be working and looking great so far. I also did the firmware upgrade on a factory fresh device. I think this helps with stability.

PS, Every new battery operated device i have owned I have always let it charged for 24 hours before messing with it. Even if they state they are fully charged when they come out of the box. I have always had pretty consistent battery life trough the life of the device. Just my personal experience.

Note Take Battery MAH on Chinese batteries with a grain of salt. I have seen the same model make of battery advertised and many different MAH. They never are tested at what they say. I would not be surprised if ainol novo9 and onda v972 use the same exact battery. The thing about numbers anyone good in math can make numbers say anything you want. And guess who is really good with numbers. :)
