Yup!! Running the new v1.35.1 Looks pretty smooth .Dont see much differences yet.
Did any of you guys deinstall the stock launcher yet?
I want to try to run with Nova launcher maybe it will run just a littlbit smoother then .
What do you guys think??

Yes, I froze it with TB. Using Nova and Espier (IOS lookalike). Both run smooth. Really, seems better than Supernova. Steve Mars will probably incorporate changes in his rom.

The sound volume?

Is it only my Onda v972 or is the speakers very low when watching movies and stuff? when i plugin earphone the sound is great, but the speakers is ike 10% of my maxed out earphones on it.

Would be nice to know if its only an error for me so i can send it back asap.

Hello guys. I think i know what is the problem. One man open his tablet and look at the speakers. There are only one speaker with a sealed aperture. Here it is.

Definitely Onda v972.
Got alot of potential and is unbrickable.
Camera is better than on the other models.

As u sent from v972.. My main use will be reading pdf files. And browsing the net. Do you face any sluggish performance on these? And how long the battery life approximately? (specially with screen on)
Eg: my gs3 stays 12+- hours with 3+- hours when the screen is on

No problems reading PDF here, using a feedreader and working smoothly scrolling through the messages. Battery live is another thing. As this is a new tablet I guess some things need to be improved with new firmware or custom rom. Last around 3 to 4 Hrs ATM.

which one to pick !!

I had a first generation Asus Transformer 101 for 2 years and wanted to upgrade. I wanted something of the same form size of the Ipad and a retina screen. Of all the Chinese tablets I chose Onda for several reasons:
1. They had a good record of firmware updates on all their products which was easy to access on their website and translate from Chinese
2. Research indicated a good quality build on their products, including tear downs with good photos
3. The v972 / v812 seemed to be popular with other buyers getting decent reviews
4. Onda seems to be a respected company with a visible brand in China
5. The firmware was already rooted
6. There was already custom roms in the offering
7. The Onda v972 seems to be being rebranded by Archos for their new line of tablets.

My experience in the first month of owning the tablet bears all of this out and I am pleased. However, one still needs to load a different launcher and browser as stock apps are still awful performers. I will say that I am disappointed in the performance of the A31 quad core processor. I'm convinced from research that the firmware on all A31 tablets is not mature enough to take advantage of the hardware. Very few roms are without lag or delay in some apps. That's mysterious for me. Lastly, I also have the v812 with the 1024x768 resolution and it performs much faster than the retina screen, telling me that the retina screen is a resource hog. I usually grab my v812 for daily use because it runs circles around the v972 in screen changes, apps loading, no lag, and browser speed. But the Retina screen on the v972 is really nice. If the firmware could catch up with the hardware, it would be a great tablet!! My impression from reading in forums about the other brands (Ainol, Window, Momo, Pipo, etc), is that they are all about the same as far as performance issues go but that the build quality and availability of firmware updates is worse for other brands. That is, as I said, why I went with Onda.

Trying to update firmwade on a Onda V972

I have a Onda V972 32 gb running 1.32 firmware. When I go to settings, About tablet, Update. When I try to do an update it gives me the option of Online update & Local update. When I chose Online update it goes to a screen with "Undiscover new version" and Update in the upper left corner but it just hangs there and I can't do anything but back out. ????? If I download the 1.35 firmware and transfer it to the tablet it says error when trying to read it. Anyone know what I need to do?

Basically, avoid using that process to load firmware updates. Use the Phoenix program that comes bundled with 1.35. It's easy and works flawlessly if you follow the directions precisely.

Okay guys a quick update. Not sure, if I should be posting it here but I will still go ahead as we dont have a dedicated development thread yet.

So last night I studied the partitions, extracted the stock recovery img and tried to build cwm recovery from the cwm online builder. I pushed it on to the recovery partition, and rebooted into recovery. Finally I did manage to get the cwm recovery interface but too bad it did not recognize my partitions. Worse, I ended up bricking my device as it went in cwm loop and on every restart I just got cwm with no keys working. :crying:

Luckily I knew that Allwinner A31 is almost brick free because the Installation suite doesn't rely on recovery and use flash mode to install firmware. So I am up and running again. I just repartioned to be sure. :good::good:

I'll keep going. I realize now that the A10 also has similar paritions structure, maybe I could get help from there. For anyone interested I am attaching the recovery.fstab which u can refer to extarct images using dd command.

PM me or write here if anyone needs the recovery or boot images. I already have then extracted. Sorry for the long post.
There is just one thing thats been bothering me. How we supposed to use CWM even if we get it working with just two keys on the tablet? Maybe I should directly try cwm touch.

Thanks. I'll keep you guys posted.

onda has not enabled any power managment features of the tablet yet. There is a power managment chip, and the A31 has power managment as well not being used. The A31 is being ran at 1ghz even when idle. If you factor that in with battery life right now at 4-4.5 hours , just think what it should get once those features are enabled.

I have 2 of these and one of mine I was messing with for over 4 hours (installing apps rooting upgrading/downgrading firmware, ect) and it was at 69% I have not had any of the browser lag, however every so often when going into google play I get no connection retry. This has happened to me with all of my tablets so not sure if this is wifi power managment or not.

I have read about some quality control issues with some units, but both of mine seem to be working and looking great so far. I also did the firmware upgrade on a factory fresh device. I think this helps with stability.

PS, Every new battery operated device i have owned I have always let it charged for 24 hours before messing with it. Even if they state they are fully charged when they come out of the box. I have always had pretty consistent battery life trough the life of the device. Just my personal experience.

Note Take Battery MAH on Chinese batteries with a grain of salt. I have seen the same model make of battery advertised and many different MAH. They never are tested at what they say. I would not be surprised if ainol novo9 and onda v972 use the same exact battery. The thing about numbers anyone good in math can make numbers say anything you want. And guess who is really good with numbers. :)
