Oh god, I was using the 1.34 kast root version, want to switch on my onda v972 today to root..

I saw this horrible white death screen. What happened to it? Can someone tell me? Is it bricked or?

I tried flash with phoenix with 1.35 offical but it doesnt work!!! Help!!!

Don't panic, this tablet is practically unbrickable. That is of course excluding any hardware faults which ie a seperate issue.

Make sure your tablet is completely off before using phoenix. Press hold power key for a good half minute, I plug mine into Usb on pc, then you can hear it turn off with The Usb disconnection sound.

Then make sure you follow the upgrade options EXACTLY!

I found I needed to go back to stock 1.21 just to get the thing going again, then work back up to latest Rom.

Look at previous posts on how to use phoenix.

All the best.

I use phoenix quite a few times so i think I didnt spoil it by using another way...

Where to download the 1.21 version?

Lastly, I had a few movies playing in another onda, realise one movie or two movie has really really soft volume, is it cos of some codecs?

What is this xml fix? Very interested as the only custom rom I can use atm is supernova 3.1 as this rom lets me install my home banking app correctly.

Sent from my unknown using Tapatalk HD

This is the fix

http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/42136-quad-core-onda-v972/page__view__findpost__p__591354

However i tried in on 1.35 and it did not work. Cause my wifi to go wonky.

I was hoping there was a fix for the latest version

Supernova 4.0 must be using some modified xml files since the apps can be installed on it. or does the banking apps like paypal only install on supernova 3.1?

Can someone with supernova 4.0 post of the xml files so I can give it a test.?

Hello!
Today I try chenise rom version 2.0.1
It's realy great, very fluid and fast!
Antutu in attachment.

Could you provide a link to this rom. I can't find it on the ondabbs.cn website. Also, your attachment isn't visible?

EDIT: Found it.............Here is a new Chinese authored ROM v2.0.1, based on the SDK 2.0 released this past Monday. Spanish users over on HTCMania.com are saying it is smooth and fast, and legit.

EDIT2: Caution, not sure how to install yet. Here is the description of the ROM with some install instructions. However, with the translation to English, I can't be sure what the install process is, as in, is this to be installed as an update over stock 2.0 or is it a total wipe and install? It appears from the size of the download that it is simply an update and not a total wipe/install. Anyone have any wisdom??

I installed it like a regular custom rom with twrp, but as I understood that rom installs on clean stock 2.0 though Update app (blue arrow) => local update
I think main thing is stock recovery must be installed.

Man that update really messed up my tablet.

no english keyboard. no root, killed all my installed apps. did not erase all my data but sure did a number on the system config.

is it that i applied the update over my 2.0 install and it was suppose to go over the 1.35 install?

anyways i am reverting back to my cwm image of 2.0

1. hold power for 10 sec to power off.

2. launch phoenixsuite. and click the anchor icon and select firmware. Do nothing else. Do not hit update.

3. your tablet should be disconnected from the pc.

4. Hold the Back/home button keep holding it. Plug in the usb cable to the tablet. while still holding the home/back button press the power button 5 times. then let off everything. you should see progress on the pc screen you will not see anything on the tablet.

if this does not work you may need to reinstall phoenix suite and make sure you install the driver when it askes.

Its the same old thing, plus I have used phoenix quite few times myself, so I dont think this is the problem. No matter what version, I used, it is still in death screen.

anyways i am reverting back to my cwm image of 2.0

I installed the Onda SDK v2.0 stock rom posted 3/30. Then I used the /settings/about tablet/update feature, pointed to "local" and selected the v2.0.1 zip file on my sdcard that I downloaded and copied over to the v972. It ran as normal, rebooted the tablet into stock recovery, and flashed the .zip. When finished I rebooted tablet and got the green screen where it repairs the memory (which I think I got the last time I flashed this 3rd part rom 1.35.1). I let that run and finish, and then the v972 booted normally. Rom is definitely faster and smoother than SN 4.0. I'm copying over my sdcard to start restoring apps and see if that slows it down any. But so far, I like what I see.

Don't know why you had the problems you did, but I don't think you are supposed to flash over 1.35. This rom is cooked as an update to the SDK 2.0, hence the 2.0.1 designation. Was your usb cable inserted snugly? I've read that a bad cable or a poor connection leads to all kinds of issues when flashing roms. I always check my cable to be sure it is snug. When using the Phoenix tool it's easy while trying to hold down on the "home button" , plug in the usb, and tap the power, to mess up something. You almost need 3 hands LOL!!!!

Regarding root, Superuser is cooked into the rom, but you have to go to /settings/security/permissions and turn it on. Then it recognizes root. I was able to interpret those directions from the Spanish board. Lastly, once I changed the language to English US, i got an english keyboard. However, I always install the Hackers's Keyboard anyway, so that was no problem.

Another thing, Root Explorer Chinese is cooked into the rom and can only be disabled in /settings/apps, not uninstalled. I used Titanium Backup Pro to uninstall it and re-install the English version from the play store. Works good.

EDIT: I think I discovered your problem. If you had CWM installed over the stock recovery, then that's what caused your issues. I read on the Chinese bbs that the v2.0.1 zip had to be installed with the original stock recovery and not CWM. If you would Phoenix flash the stock v2.0 again, then use /settings/about tablet/update to install the v2.0.1 zip, I bet it would work. When you Phoenix flash it installs the stock recovery and deletes the CWM. i knew to do that beforehand and hence, didn't have your problem. Just a stab at your problem. I think you would like this update. I certainly do.

Tempted to try this upgrade but I have been pretty happy with 2.0 since I installed it. I'm still running stock launcher and browser and I just get the odd freeze but overall everything is running so much better. I'll check and see how you get on before I take the plunge.

Okay guys a quick update. Not sure, if I should be posting it here but I will still go ahead as we dont have a dedicated development thread yet.

So last night I studied the partitions, extracted the stock recovery img and tried to build cwm recovery from the cwm online builder. I pushed it on to the recovery partition, and rebooted into recovery. Finally I did manage to get the cwm recovery interface but too bad it did not recognize my partitions. Worse, I ended up bricking my device as it went in cwm loop and on every restart I just got cwm with no keys working. :crying:

Luckily I knew that Allwinner A31 is almost brick free because the Installation suite doesn't rely on recovery and use flash mode to install firmware. So I am up and running again. I just repartioned to be sure. :good::good:

I'll keep going. I realize now that the A10 also has similar paritions structure, maybe I could get help from there. For anyone interested I am attaching the recovery.fstab which u can refer to extarct images using dd command.

PM me or write here if anyone needs the recovery or boot images. I already have then extracted. Sorry for the long post.
There is just one thing thats been bothering me. How we supposed to use CWM even if we get it working with just two keys on the tablet? Maybe I should directly try cwm touch.

Thanks. I'll keep you guys posted.

onda has not enabled any power managment features of the tablet yet. There is a power managment chip, and the A31 has power managment as well not being used. The A31 is being ran at 1ghz even when idle. If you factor that in with battery life right now at 4-4.5 hours , just think what it should get once those features are enabled.

I have 2 of these and one of mine I was messing with for over 4 hours (installing apps rooting upgrading/downgrading firmware, ect) and it was at 69% I have not had any of the browser lag, however every so often when going into google play I get no connection retry. This has happened to me with all of my tablets so not sure if this is wifi power managment or not.

I have read about some quality control issues with some units, but both of mine seem to be working and looking great so far. I also did the firmware upgrade on a factory fresh device. I think this helps with stability.

PS, Every new battery operated device i have owned I have always let it charged for 24 hours before messing with it. Even if they state they are fully charged when they come out of the box. I have always had pretty consistent battery life trough the life of the device. Just my personal experience.

Note Take Battery MAH on Chinese batteries with a grain of salt. I have seen the same model make of battery advertised and many different MAH. They never are tested at what they say. I would not be surprised if ainol novo9 and onda v972 use the same exact battery. The thing about numbers anyone good in math can make numbers say anything you want. And guess who is really good with numbers. :)
