I installed the Onda SDK v2.0 stock rom posted 3/30. Then I used the /settings/about tablet/update feature, pointed to "local" and selected the v2.0.1 zip file on my sdcard that I downloaded and copied over to the v972. It ran as normal, rebooted the tablet into stock recovery, and flashed the .zip. When finished I rebooted tablet and got the green screen where it repairs the memory (which I think I got the last time I flashed this 3rd part rom 1.35.1). I let that run and finish, and then the v972 booted normally. Rom is definitely faster and smoother than SN 4.0. I'm copying over my sdcard to start restoring apps and see if that slows it down any. But so far, I like what I see.

Don't know why you had the problems you did, but I don't think you are supposed to flash over 1.35. This rom is cooked as an update to the SDK 2.0, hence the 2.0.1 designation. Was your usb cable inserted snugly? I've read that a bad cable or a poor connection leads to all kinds of issues when flashing roms. I always check my cable to be sure it is snug. When using the Phoenix tool it's easy while trying to hold down on the "home button" , plug in the usb, and tap the power, to mess up something. You almost need 3 hands LOL!!!!

Regarding root, Superuser is cooked into the rom, but you have to go to /settings/security/permissions and turn it on. Then it recognizes root. I was able to interpret those directions from the Spanish board. Lastly, once I changed the language to English US, i got an english keyboard. However, I always install the Hackers's Keyboard anyway, so that was no problem.

Another thing, Root Explorer Chinese is cooked into the rom and can only be disabled in /settings/apps, not uninstalled. I used Titanium Backup Pro to uninstall it and re-install the English version from the play store. Works good.

EDIT: I think I discovered your problem. If you had CWM installed over the stock recovery, then that's what caused your issues. I read on the Chinese bbs that the v2.0.1 zip had to be installed with the original stock recovery and not CWM. If you would Phoenix flash the stock v2.0 again, then use /settings/about tablet/update to install the v2.0.1 zip, I bet it would work. When you Phoenix flash it installs the stock recovery and deletes the CWM. i knew to do that beforehand and hence, didn't have your problem. Just a stab at your problem. I think you would like this update. I certainly do.

Right you are I did have CWM installed.

I will try it later.

Do you know if this fixes the you tube issue or does it improve the market compatibility?

Thanks

No fix for youtube. You still have to install the earlier version via sideload then it works fine. In market i downloaded a few apps and had no trouble finding what i wanted. however, i just remembered, i did change the lcd setting in build.prop to 264 before that.

Is there really no cure for my onda v972? Oh My gosh!!!!

Its the same old thing, plus I have used phoenix quite few times myself, so I dont think this is the problem. No matter what version, I used, it is still in death screen.

Oh god, I was using the 1.34 kast root version, want to switch on my onda v972 today to root..

I saw this horrible white death screen. What happened to it? Can someone tell me? Is it bricked or?

I tried flash with phoenix with 1.35 offical but it doesnt work!!! Help!!!

Green error screen at boot

Hello,

I installed the 2.0 SDK and everything worked fine. It was very smooth.
But today when I rebooted my tablet, it showed the first 4-core yada yada, then after 1-2 sec this green screen came up, with a nursing + on a bag, plus some chineese letters.
Anyone else got this?
What do to?
I don't want to do a new clean install (and havee to install everything again).
I have 32 GB memory.

Yes, and not to worry. It's a repair tool built into the firmware. Just let it do it's thing and then your tablet will boot as normal. I get it every time I flash 2.0.1, and I do mean every time. So far, I get it within the first few bootups after flashing, then I never see it again. I think it fixes the boot sectors or something technical. It usually takes it about 3-5 minutes to do its thing.

I think you may have a hardware problem.

You have obviously know how to flash your tablet and if it is not responding to phoenix suite then there has to be something wrong hardware wise.

Looks almost like your backlight is on full with a blank screen. I have never seen mine do that even when it was bricked.

Agree sadly.

Just a Heads-Up, that Chinese 2.01 ROM floating around does not have root - at least according to Root Checker Basic. Wish I'd known that before installing..

Yes it does. You have to go to /settings/security/permissions and select SuperUser to run. Once you do that, you have root access. Those instructions were in the Spanish forum and not really clear to all users. SuperUser is "baked in" to this Chinese rom. Hope that helps.

Would you recommend upgrading to 2.0.1 over stock 2.0 jyams. Happy with stock but if it's a marked improvement over it I'll upgrade.

For me, Yes. It made a nice difference in my performance. It won't improve your Antutu benchmarks, but it does improve every other feature. It's faster and smoother. To me, it's what stock should have been.

Thanks jyams. I don't bother with benchmarks to be honest. I just care how the tablet feels not what some software tells me. I put CWM on it so I better return to stock before I flash.

Okay guys a quick update. Not sure, if I should be posting it here but I will still go ahead as we dont have a dedicated development thread yet.

So last night I studied the partitions, extracted the stock recovery img and tried to build cwm recovery from the cwm online builder. I pushed it on to the recovery partition, and rebooted into recovery. Finally I did manage to get the cwm recovery interface but too bad it did not recognize my partitions. Worse, I ended up bricking my device as it went in cwm loop and on every restart I just got cwm with no keys working. :crying:

Luckily I knew that Allwinner A31 is almost brick free because the Installation suite doesn't rely on recovery and use flash mode to install firmware. So I am up and running again. I just repartioned to be sure. :good::good:

I'll keep going. I realize now that the A10 also has similar paritions structure, maybe I could get help from there. For anyone interested I am attaching the recovery.fstab which u can refer to extarct images using dd command.

PM me or write here if anyone needs the recovery or boot images. I already have then extracted. Sorry for the long post.
There is just one thing thats been bothering me. How we supposed to use CWM even if we get it working with just two keys on the tablet? Maybe I should directly try cwm touch.

Thanks. I'll keep you guys posted.

onda has not enabled any power managment features of the tablet yet. There is a power managment chip, and the A31 has power managment as well not being used. The A31 is being ran at 1ghz even when idle. If you factor that in with battery life right now at 4-4.5 hours , just think what it should get once those features are enabled.

I have 2 of these and one of mine I was messing with for over 4 hours (installing apps rooting upgrading/downgrading firmware, ect) and it was at 69% I have not had any of the browser lag, however every so often when going into google play I get no connection retry. This has happened to me with all of my tablets so not sure if this is wifi power managment or not.

I have read about some quality control issues with some units, but both of mine seem to be working and looking great so far. I also did the firmware upgrade on a factory fresh device. I think this helps with stability.

PS, Every new battery operated device i have owned I have always let it charged for 24 hours before messing with it. Even if they state they are fully charged when they come out of the box. I have always had pretty consistent battery life trough the life of the device. Just my personal experience.

Note Take Battery MAH on Chinese batteries with a grain of salt. I have seen the same model make of battery advertised and many different MAH. They never are tested at what they say. I would not be surprised if ainol novo9 and onda v972 use the same exact battery. The thing about numbers anyone good in math can make numbers say anything you want. And guess who is really good with numbers. :)
