Onda V972 Allwinner A31 Quad Core 9.7inch Retina IPS Screen Dual Camera Tablet PC

Hi all. I want to buy a fresh new tablet for my nephew. So classical no-expert use (games, media, browsing).
I would buy this tablet from Aliexpress links, but reading this thread i'm a bit worried.

Is it a good tablet or not? And can you suggest me some other good product around this price?

On the V972 battery is very bad ,the speaker to. Camera and screen are very good, and with last software the tablet is pretty ok. The overall quality is very nice.
Playing Real Racing on V972 is just awsome and it has a very strong gpu.
But the high resolution makes it not as snappy as tablets with lower resolutions.

Tablets with RK3188 seems stronger than A31. But my tablets with RK3188 doesent score higher than A31 when both running at 1ghz. So if we can get a higher clock on A31 it would be a very good choice with its premium gpu.

I would suggest the Pipo M9. Just love it. It has a powerfull cpu, very bright an sensitive screen. Good camera and the best speakers ive got on a tablet. Its very light and snappy to use. Stock software brilliant when rooted an debloated.
So if retinascreen isnt a must, this is it.

I think this time they stopped with the "V1, V2, V3" and just renamed the tablet.
500mAh an 1,32mm for €30 euros of difference it's an honest price.

I don't think 500mAh will save mi life, my Memo Pad 10 drain very fast too, but have GREAT SOUND and is VERY LIGHT compared to my Onda!

Flashed it.......its a consolidated improvement release to the original released!!
Tabs more fluid for sure!! Well still experimental ~ test................. b patient for the final release!!!

load firmware on pheonix suite,make sure tablet is off.Hold down home button and plug in usb,while still holding home press on/off 10 to 20 times,download should begin.press yes to format and install.

Has a newbie to tablets & my first & I picked the onda v972 after reading so many reviews, pros & cons with all I settled with this, very nice, much cheaper than IP*D etc.

I to had some difficulty with up-dating from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 (not beta), but xda as some great reads, & you guys helped me out greatly, thank you. The above is the way to up-grade.. :good:

I went to ibuyla.com and purchased two 6000mah batteries to replace the original 4000mah ones.
Now get 7 hours of use from a full charge.
Very happy with v972 now.

From what I can see this isn't rooted, Titanium is complaining about lack of root access, had a nosey around Security setting and nothing obvious for setting Root.

This version of 4.2.2 is NOT rooted. If you want a rooted version then go here and get the Kastyonda version by Arctablet.

I saw yesterday that the China site that has been running the test version for download for V1 devices has removed the "test" from the title and it is now just v1-v4.2.2. The "test" designation is still on the v2 version. So, maybe Onda is getting close to delivering the upgrade. I am assuming that when it is delivered that it will be rooted and all you will need to do is install one of the SuperUser apps to activate root. All the other upgrades for the last 2 months have been rooted.

Regarding the test v4.2.2 that is available, they say that this app will root the v972, but I haven't been able to get it to work. Traditionally, this app has been used to root Rockchip devices like the RK3066 and RK3188. It may be that my office network is causing the problem as the app has to download some scripts in the process and am thinking our firewall is stopping it. Try it on your home computer and it might work. Going to try it tonight. This app is in Chinese, but you can figure it out just like the earlier Phoenix tool. Supposedly, just click the "root" button after getting a good connection to your v972 (USB Debugging must be checked in "Developer Options" settings) and it will root the tablet. Folks over on HTCMania.com are using it.
