Hi.
I am back on last official Onda 4.1 release. Build.20130330. Sdk 2.0
Though i like 4.2.2 the screen is to sensitive.
Scrolling almost impossible. It acts like i have tapped the screen when only
trying to scroll up or down.
Exept for this its very nice.
Anybody else having this issue with 4.2.2 ?
Thanks
Knievel

I had that problem while using kasty-onda 4.2.2 v3 ROM. Now on evolution 1.1 at it working properly now.

charging Onda v972

The wall charger it comes with is rated at 5.0 volts and 2.5 amps.
2.5 amps is a hefty charge. This tablet does seems to suck in the juice.
Most USB ports on computers only put out .5 amps. Not enough to charge this thing.

3.0 installed and running beautifully.

The wall charger/ eu adaptor supplied don't give a very good positive contact and soon become loose. Since Feb, I have been using an ipad type charger from ebay without any problem. I would not waste time trying to charge from USB ports on PC. By replacing the supplied charger you won't have any problem charging in future.

Thats what i thought to.
But with a usb cable of bad quality it wont even charge with my laptop charger on 6 amps.
The cable got to have solid copper wires inside. Try different types.
Thanks

Type of charger used for Onda V972

I have been using one from ebay for several months but I'm not permitted yet to give you the link

Try to match the original voltage and amperage output from the original charger with any new charger

Should the amperage not be higher?
You could PM me the brand and model

How long does it take to fully charge with this charger?

Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

3 to 4 hours maybe (device turned of). But again its got to be a decent usb cable.
Iv got 8-10 usb cables in my house , and only a couple of them are usable.

If it doesent charge when screen are on full brightness, try another cable.
Thanks

Good point - yes a high quality cable is preferable.

I have not had any problems yet with the stock charger but that don't mean I won't.

A lithium battery or any rechargeable will only draw what it needs. This tablet will charge at even .5 amps
Only it takes a longer time. Too long for most of us who want to use the device.
The higher the amperage, the faster your tablet will charge.
Seems it needs at least 2 amps to keep up.
So shopping on Ebay, look for a good quality 2 or 3 amp wall or car charger.
And a good cable as noted above.
They are pretty much dirt cheap.

Question: Is anyone working a good kernel for this device or is there one that works?

One off topic question: of I use that charger on my galaxy note2 which is now charged at 0.5 amp will it damage my note2 or charge faster?

It is unknown if it will charge faster however it will not hurt it. Each device has charging circuitry that will only take as much amps as the battery needs without damaging it. Sometimes this charging circuitry has been paired with an underspeced charger so the manufacturer can save money. In this case the higher amp charger will probably charge the device faster. In the end the device will only take what it needs and will not take more unless the charge circuit fails.

I do believe that the onda charger is underspeced for the onda 972. It gets really hot and causes multiple phantom touches when the power brick gets hot, WHen it is hot the power supply is providing dirty power (interference) that messes with the touchscreen. I will be testing this theory in a few days when i get the 3amp usb charger I ordered. Hopefully this power supply will allow me to use the tablet while charging without getting too hot and creating the touchscreen issues.

It may charge faster on phones with large batteries.
And to my knowledge it wont damage anything either. Only the charger if its to small.
Of course as long as its 5 volts.

This is only my experiense. So i could be wrong.

4.2.2 Encryption

upgraded to the Kasty 4.2.2 v3.0 and working fine, all that is except for the encryption option. It is part of my company policy to encrypt the device when applying email account. Under 4.1 this didn't even pop up and simply worked under 4.2.2 the encryption seems to initiate, Android robot appears, screen holds for about 15 seconds and then device reboots and doesn't encrypt.

Tried the Onda official ROM and had the same issue.

Any ideas on how to get round this?

Please help!

Most probably the one floating around was a leaked Beta from onda beta testers.

Interested to see what we get from official.

Definitely, there was to much in it for it to be a ROM built from scratch. Have you tried it yet, I wont get time till maybe tomorrow to give it a go.

Was it working before you flash the version. Sounded like a hardware issue.

Okay guys a quick update. Not sure, if I should be posting it here but I will still go ahead as we dont have a dedicated development thread yet.

So last night I studied the partitions, extracted the stock recovery img and tried to build cwm recovery from the cwm online builder. I pushed it on to the recovery partition, and rebooted into recovery. Finally I did manage to get the cwm recovery interface but too bad it did not recognize my partitions. Worse, I ended up bricking my device as it went in cwm loop and on every restart I just got cwm with no keys working. :crying:

Luckily I knew that Allwinner A31 is almost brick free because the Installation suite doesn't rely on recovery and use flash mode to install firmware. So I am up and running again. I just repartioned to be sure. :good::good:

I'll keep going. I realize now that the A10 also has similar paritions structure, maybe I could get help from there. For anyone interested I am attaching the recovery.fstab which u can refer to extarct images using dd command.

PM me or write here if anyone needs the recovery or boot images. I already have then extracted. Sorry for the long post.
There is just one thing thats been bothering me. How we supposed to use CWM even if we get it working with just two keys on the tablet? Maybe I should directly try cwm touch.

Thanks. I'll keep you guys posted.

onda has not enabled any power managment features of the tablet yet. There is a power managment chip, and the A31 has power managment as well not being used. The A31 is being ran at 1ghz even when idle. If you factor that in with battery life right now at 4-4.5 hours , just think what it should get once those features are enabled.

I have 2 of these and one of mine I was messing with for over 4 hours (installing apps rooting upgrading/downgrading firmware, ect) and it was at 69% I have not had any of the browser lag, however every so often when going into google play I get no connection retry. This has happened to me with all of my tablets so not sure if this is wifi power managment or not.

I have read about some quality control issues with some units, but both of mine seem to be working and looking great so far. I also did the firmware upgrade on a factory fresh device. I think this helps with stability.

PS, Every new battery operated device i have owned I have always let it charged for 24 hours before messing with it. Even if they state they are fully charged when they come out of the box. I have always had pretty consistent battery life trough the life of the device. Just my personal experience.

Note Take Battery MAH on Chinese batteries with a grain of salt. I have seen the same model make of battery advertised and many different MAH. They never are tested at what they say. I would not be surprised if ainol novo9 and onda v972 use the same exact battery. The thing about numbers anyone good in math can make numbers say anything you want. And guess who is really good with numbers. :)
