I tried the eroot software and although it did say it was rooted it did not work properly.
I then went dow the old fashioned root of using ROOT_Limpieza_Logo_V3.zip from here

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37860604&nocache=1&z=3452915204688906

I had to run the eroot software twice before it seemed to work - was using Win 7 and went to Settings/Developer Options and put it into debug mode there. It happened before..not sure why I needed to run it twice but got root anyway..

cameras don't work

few days ago I got my v972 v2, both cameras working,
flashed with v3.0_v2, cameras stop working (when i try to run camera this is what I get: Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped.)
after that I flashed with official firmwares: v2.0_v1, v2.0_v2, v3.0_v1, v3.0_v2, v3.2_v1 and v3.2_v2, cameras aren't working on any of those, I tried (at least I think so) every solution mentioned in this thread but nothing helps, I am desperate, please help me

Have you cleaned the cache before flashing the new roms ? If not I would suggest you get into recovery to do it

First be sure of your device version.
Then do a format flash with the right firmware. Not upgrade.
Thanks

Well, I am pretty sure that it is V2 because is says so on the box(serial no. V972QBD4V2100097), but I also tried flashing it few times with v1 version because you newer know what Chinese have sent you :) .

And yes I did a format flash with with the right firmware (v2).
Last 2 days I searched everything there is about v972 camera problems, and tried everything: clearing caches, flashing with all kinds of custom firmware, uninstalling gallery and installing it again, running all kind of commands and scripts from terminal, you name it.... but nothing helps.
Most of the problems people used to have with their cameras were usually cured with these simple solutions.
Right now I am running on official firmware v3.2 and everything runs very good, except the cameras, they still aren't working.

Flash?

Has anybody positive experiences with flash animations and web pages?
I cannot install neither Adobe Flash player, nor Puffin web browser, it reports an error: turn off forced gpu rendering, although it is off already. Is there a way around that?

Running V972, V1, rom kasty 3.2 (june 2013) - in old rom versions it functioned properly.

Throw it in the bin!

Lets be honest, the Onda 972 and all the other Chinese tablets are basically rubbish and not worth the money that we are stupid enough to pay for them, the darn things do not work properly, never have and never will. This whole thread is about problems with these rubbish tablets, maybe they will work, then maybe they won't. The Onda tablets are just a waste of money as many have already discovered and many will find out in the future. The Onda 972 is a mess, some things work while others don't.

The stupid tablet is far too sensitive, the slightest touch and everything springs open making it just about impossible to even scroll down the page, the keyboard has a life of its own as does the zoom function which just goes out of control with the briefest of touches. Tabs cannot be opened as they will not respond to multiple touches/taps/kicks or whatever, the tablet just pleases itself on what it will do and won't do.

Its a "toy", a piece of expensive junk and should be treated as such, I was warned not to buy this rubbish but ignored the advice and now I am stuck with a piece of junk.

Samsung I am coming!

Fortunately I don't miss you for a second.

Maybe you just got a lemon. I've picked up a Chinese phone and for the price it's excellent. Apart for the non functioning GPS.

A lemon is true, but I cannot get it replaced or fixed and that's part of the reason why I am so angry.

***The Samsung is worth every U$ I paid for it. Plus if I have any problems I can get it fixed locally as it comes with a real guarantee. Onda, just nonsense and rubbish and wasting U$ 250 is a bitter experience! Bye

Ha Ha Ha!

I have no idea where you bought your tablet from....mine has a guarantee and I can send it back if it develops a real fault.

I had it out the box and it was a bit laggy. I expected this from it being one of the very latest "Retina" display quad core tablets.
To Onda's credit they have released about 4 updates and the latest is fast, fluent and extremely usable.

I would have no intentions of buying a "premium brand" tablet and paying over 3 times the price.

I purchased the Onda V972 in a shop, they gave me a receipt, told me if the tablet goes wrong in the first 7 days then they would replace it, after that not much happening. So, I followed someones advice on this forum about upgrading and the tablet just freaked out and got stuck, would not recharge etc, end result, a useless piece of junk.

Okay, now the 7 days from the date of purchasing were past, I contacted the shop by phone, as they are in a different city, and they basically told me that there was nothing they could do or would do, goodbye.
Next I contacted Onda in China who ignored my emails at first, then finally asked what the problems were, and I replied quickly, and now that email has been completely ignored. Onda China have absolutely no intention of helping me or replacing the tablet, they are simply not interested.

So, now I am stuck with a piece of junk that I paid $250 for and not a single person on this forum has anything sensible to say, or the intelligence to come forward and give me some practical advice that I could use as to getting the tablet fixed or replaced.

So why not just download the latest update and flash it with Phoenix

Why blame everyone on XDA?

It's a really nice tablet - not junk at all.

Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda app-developers app

I don't think that it is an issue of V972 hardware or firmware. Your tablet is still functioning. The problem is caused by yourself. I believe that you are not capable to flash the update or doing something wrong during the firmware update. No manufacturer will be responsible for faults cause by user's improper use or updating firmware. It is not died itself, but you make it. To be fair, it is you own responsibility not the manufacturer. Be calm down and google for for help and reflashing it.

Okay guys a quick update. Not sure, if I should be posting it here but I will still go ahead as we dont have a dedicated development thread yet.

So last night I studied the partitions, extracted the stock recovery img and tried to build cwm recovery from the cwm online builder. I pushed it on to the recovery partition, and rebooted into recovery. Finally I did manage to get the cwm recovery interface but too bad it did not recognize my partitions. Worse, I ended up bricking my device as it went in cwm loop and on every restart I just got cwm with no keys working. :crying:

Luckily I knew that Allwinner A31 is almost brick free because the Installation suite doesn't rely on recovery and use flash mode to install firmware. So I am up and running again. I just repartioned to be sure. :good::good:

I'll keep going. I realize now that the A10 also has similar paritions structure, maybe I could get help from there. For anyone interested I am attaching the recovery.fstab which u can refer to extarct images using dd command.

PM me or write here if anyone needs the recovery or boot images. I already have then extracted. Sorry for the long post.
There is just one thing thats been bothering me. How we supposed to use CWM even if we get it working with just two keys on the tablet? Maybe I should directly try cwm touch.

Thanks. I'll keep you guys posted.

onda has not enabled any power managment features of the tablet yet. There is a power managment chip, and the A31 has power managment as well not being used. The A31 is being ran at 1ghz even when idle. If you factor that in with battery life right now at 4-4.5 hours , just think what it should get once those features are enabled.

I have 2 of these and one of mine I was messing with for over 4 hours (installing apps rooting upgrading/downgrading firmware, ect) and it was at 69% I have not had any of the browser lag, however every so often when going into google play I get no connection retry. This has happened to me with all of my tablets so not sure if this is wifi power managment or not.

I have read about some quality control issues with some units, but both of mine seem to be working and looking great so far. I also did the firmware upgrade on a factory fresh device. I think this helps with stability.

PS, Every new battery operated device i have owned I have always let it charged for 24 hours before messing with it. Even if they state they are fully charged when they come out of the box. I have always had pretty consistent battery life trough the life of the device. Just my personal experience.

Note Take Battery MAH on Chinese batteries with a grain of salt. I have seen the same model make of battery advertised and many different MAH. They never are tested at what they say. I would not be surprised if ainol novo9 and onda v972 use the same exact battery. The thing about numbers anyone good in math can make numbers say anything you want. And guess who is really good with numbers. :)
