So, now I am stuck with a piece of junk that I paid $250 for and not a single person on this forum has anything sensible to say, or the intelligence to come forward and give me some practical advice that I could use as to getting the tablet fixed or replaced.

I've had mine for a few months now, flashed with latest ROM and it's as smooth as silk, definitely on a par with my GF iPad, it was your decision to flash the tablet so you can't blame the shop/company if you can't read instructions and have F***** it up, if you take your auto apart and then it doesn't work when you put it back together would you go screaming at the garage where you bought it from?

Lets be honest, the Onda 972 and all the other Chinese tablets are basically rubbish and not worth the money that we are stupid enough to pay for them, the darn things do not work properly, never have and never will. This whole thread is about problems with these rubbish tablets, maybe they will work, then maybe they won't. The Onda tablets are just a waste of money as many have already discovered and many will find out in the future. The Onda 972 is a mess, some things work while others don't.

The stupid tablet is far too sensitive, the slightest touch and everything springs open making it just about impossible to even scroll down the page, the keyboard has a life of its own as does the zoom function which just goes out of control with the briefest of touches. Tabs cannot be opened as they will not respond to multiple touches/taps/kicks or whatever, the tablet just pleases itself on what it will do and won't do.

Its a "toy", a piece of expensive junk and should be treated as such, I was warned not to buy this rubbish but ignored the advice and now I am stuck with a piece of junk.

Samsung I am coming!

I do apologise.......I must have missed the part in your initial post where you were asking for some sensible, practical advice to help fix your tablet.

It might be my poor reading skills but all I read from the above post was an aggressive and angry rant..in BOLD

This must be the easiest tablet/phone ever to get on my hands and got upgraded!
V3.2 firmware makes the tablet extremely smooth,BUT i noticed 2 things.
Opera lags like hell, while the default chinese brwser is ultra fast..
And wifi. Stability is an issue...

Btw how do i remove all that china bloat?
Any custom roms?

If you have root you can remove chinese apps. My G3S had Chinese manual, calendar, and baidu input.

Look on utube or buy an Amazon gg

I've a great Chinese tablet by pipo thx it's 4x 1.8gig with 8 core gpu. 2gig of ddr3 ram plus 3g wmcda for calls and net. Cost £200.id buy it again. I'm writing this on a quad core Chinese phone too. It's so good my note is gathering dust with an HTC desire x. If you pay silly money you get crap. BUT spend a couple of hundred which is still low, do research and you will get a bargain. Buy off Amazon and send it back if it's crap. Simple. Oh stop whining

I purchased the Onda V972 in a shop, they gave me a receipt, told me if the tablet goes wrong in the first 7 days then they would replace it, after that not much happening. So, I followed someones advice on this forum about upgrading and the tablet just freaked out and got stuck, would not recharge etc, end result, a useless piece of junk.

Did he mention how he upgrade that ends up bricking his onda. Did he asked for help here. I didn't see any. Surely if he has asked, we would have help him. I bricked mine a few times but managed to unbrick it.

I got the Onda V972 and I did the Phoenix upgrade to Version 3.2... The performance improvements were very noticeable and the pad runs smoothly and is very quick! Very happy!! Although... now my camera will not work... Is there any fix for this without going back to the original? I would like to simply just fix the darn camera... and enjoy using my pad and not working on it all the time! lol

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!!

The usual culprit for this is installing the wrong version number V1 on a V2 tablet or V2 on a V1 tablet.
Did you use the arctablet "kasty" rom or the original ONDA rom?

Flash the original version from Onda. I flashed the original software from Onda and everything works. The use eroot to root the tablet to remove all the chinese apps. However downloading the software from Onda can be a chore.

I checked my system before I flashed to make sure of the version I had... It was clearly V2... so that is what I used. But... I read that some of these tablets are labeled incorrectly... so I took you advice and flashed it with V1... It did NOT work... The pad was way off... everything was upside down and it was crazy trying to get to flash back to V2... but I got it... although my camera still does not work... I have also flashed with both the original Onda rom and the Kasty rom... No camera... I guess I will try and download original rom and start over....

If I am able to get ahold of the original rom, should I get it up and running and then flash with Kasty rom over that once I know the cam works?

Thanks again for all of your help!!

I've hear over on another forum that you should try re-flashing and choose the MANDATORY FORMAT option.

I did select "YES" at the format option each time I flashed... so maybe I should try NO... ?? I am so frustrated with this. The pad works great except for the no camera options...

Okay guys a quick update. Not sure, if I should be posting it here but I will still go ahead as we dont have a dedicated development thread yet.

So last night I studied the partitions, extracted the stock recovery img and tried to build cwm recovery from the cwm online builder. I pushed it on to the recovery partition, and rebooted into recovery. Finally I did manage to get the cwm recovery interface but too bad it did not recognize my partitions. Worse, I ended up bricking my device as it went in cwm loop and on every restart I just got cwm with no keys working. :crying:

Luckily I knew that Allwinner A31 is almost brick free because the Installation suite doesn't rely on recovery and use flash mode to install firmware. So I am up and running again. I just repartioned to be sure. :good::good:

I'll keep going. I realize now that the A10 also has similar paritions structure, maybe I could get help from there. For anyone interested I am attaching the recovery.fstab which u can refer to extarct images using dd command.

PM me or write here if anyone needs the recovery or boot images. I already have then extracted. Sorry for the long post.
There is just one thing thats been bothering me. How we supposed to use CWM even if we get it working with just two keys on the tablet? Maybe I should directly try cwm touch.

Thanks. I'll keep you guys posted.

onda has not enabled any power managment features of the tablet yet. There is a power managment chip, and the A31 has power managment as well not being used. The A31 is being ran at 1ghz even when idle. If you factor that in with battery life right now at 4-4.5 hours , just think what it should get once those features are enabled.

I have 2 of these and one of mine I was messing with for over 4 hours (installing apps rooting upgrading/downgrading firmware, ect) and it was at 69% I have not had any of the browser lag, however every so often when going into google play I get no connection retry. This has happened to me with all of my tablets so not sure if this is wifi power managment or not.

I have read about some quality control issues with some units, but both of mine seem to be working and looking great so far. I also did the firmware upgrade on a factory fresh device. I think this helps with stability.

PS, Every new battery operated device i have owned I have always let it charged for 24 hours before messing with it. Even if they state they are fully charged when they come out of the box. I have always had pretty consistent battery life trough the life of the device. Just my personal experience.

Note Take Battery MAH on Chinese batteries with a grain of salt. I have seen the same model make of battery advertised and many different MAH. They never are tested at what they say. I would not be surprised if ainol novo9 and onda v972 use the same exact battery. The thing about numbers anyone good in math can make numbers say anything you want. And guess who is really good with numbers. :)
