onda v972 speakers fried by app

Hi,
I have an Onda v972 running 4.2.2 on firmware build v3.2_v2.
I downloaded an app called Boost Your Volume by Bresaconggul. WRONG MOVE.
When I ran the app to calibrate it, (a progressively loud screech and a phone ringing noise), my speakers started crackling.
I began to play a song, and the entire thing was distorted. Same thing happened when I played a movie (on various players) or a game.
Any audio file I open, or program with audio, is now distorted. The only way to get rid of the distortion is to turn the volume almost all the way off.
Volume through the ear buds is fine; no distortion and full volume there.
I downloaded an equalizer, and as long as I have 60hz and 23hz well below 0, there's no distortion, but the overall volume is still too low.
Are my external speakers permanently fried? If I reflash the OS, will the sound be restored?
Any suggestions? Please?
Thanks.

Sorry to say your speaker is fried. My friend had the same issue with his v972. I swapped the speaker in his tablet and it was then fine. these speakers are weak and can be easily blown.

what speakers did you swap for the defective ones? and was it fairly easy? i'm not that tech savvy, but I might be able to with the right equipment and the right instructions.

I bought one on ebay with a fried motherboard. I used the speaker out of the fried one to fix his. I do not know of any compatible replacement sorry.

Archos Platinum 97 HD

Hi,

I have the above tablet which is rooted and has CM11 installed.

Over the last few days its developed a fault whereby the touchscreen buttons flash randomly and the screen goes daft. Occassionally the screen functions normally for a few minutes but then goes nuts again. Overclockers UK have refused a repair due to rooting it.

Does anyone know what this problem is likely to be before I stump up more cash for a new digitizer from aliexpress. I already have a replacement LG battery waiting to be fitted to boost the woeful battery life which seems like a waste of money now.

I'm kind of hoping it might be swollen battery pushing the screen which means I dont need to spend any money on it. I've tried several different roms so it doesnt appear to be software related.

Anyone any ideas??

thanks

Regarding sending it back, vendors often use the fact that the tablet has been rooted as an excuse for not repairing/replacing it.
This is unfair, above all when you don't have to unlock the bootloader or modify permanently anything else, like with the Onda v972.

As far as I know, you should be able to restore the original firmware.
I would have contacted the seller after having restored the tablet back to its original firmware.

Anyway, at this stage I suppose you can restore the tablet to original and then if you still experience the same problem try to contact them again.

Do you always experience this problem or only when you are charging the tablet?
For me the screen goes a bit mad when the tablet is plugged it. To make it stop I have to touch the back ot the tablet with my hand.
Some electric **** is going on there... :-/

Good Luck!
Andrea

Thanks for the replying. The problem is I COULDN'T restore it back to the Archos firmware as you can't get it ANYWHERE. It goes haywire even when it's not plugged in. I've got the upgraded LG battery at home which arrived from China. I'm gonna fit that when the tablet arrives back on Monday and see if that helps things. If not I'm gonna order a new digitizer from ali express

nm,
any progress reports very appreciated. My v972 lost wifi a week ago, now my display is playing up. Some parts of the screen not touch responsive, I have to rotate to get touch to work a specific icon. The unit does a berserker every so often and runs though its own random sequence of touch responses, without my input. I am also waiting on a new battery. Firmware up and downgrades haven't helped.

I should get the tablet back today and will fit the battery tonight hopefully. In any case I will report back here to see if it makes any difference. I suspect it won't and I'll have to buy a digitizer

Well I fitted the new battery and the screen is still playing up although at one point it seemed ok then went tits up again. Then I broke the screen whilst opening and shutting the case trying to make the battery fit. Not too bothered about that though as I obviously need a new digitizer in any case. Ive just ordered one from seller cui1873 on ebay. Couldnt post the link sorry

nm,

thanks for the update. Bugger on the broken screen. I snapped my ext sd card, in spite of all the warnings. So my next bit of self-education is learning what a digitizer is. Let us know how it goes for you.

Okay guys a quick update. Not sure, if I should be posting it here but I will still go ahead as we dont have a dedicated development thread yet.

So last night I studied the partitions, extracted the stock recovery img and tried to build cwm recovery from the cwm online builder. I pushed it on to the recovery partition, and rebooted into recovery. Finally I did manage to get the cwm recovery interface but too bad it did not recognize my partitions. Worse, I ended up bricking my device as it went in cwm loop and on every restart I just got cwm with no keys working. :crying:

Luckily I knew that Allwinner A31 is almost brick free because the Installation suite doesn't rely on recovery and use flash mode to install firmware. So I am up and running again. I just repartioned to be sure. :good::good:

I'll keep going. I realize now that the A10 also has similar paritions structure, maybe I could get help from there. For anyone interested I am attaching the recovery.fstab which u can refer to extarct images using dd command.

PM me or write here if anyone needs the recovery or boot images. I already have then extracted. Sorry for the long post.
There is just one thing thats been bothering me. How we supposed to use CWM even if we get it working with just two keys on the tablet? Maybe I should directly try cwm touch.

Thanks. I'll keep you guys posted.

onda has not enabled any power managment features of the tablet yet. There is a power managment chip, and the A31 has power managment as well not being used. The A31 is being ran at 1ghz even when idle. If you factor that in with battery life right now at 4-4.5 hours , just think what it should get once those features are enabled.

I have 2 of these and one of mine I was messing with for over 4 hours (installing apps rooting upgrading/downgrading firmware, ect) and it was at 69% I have not had any of the browser lag, however every so often when going into google play I get no connection retry. This has happened to me with all of my tablets so not sure if this is wifi power managment or not.

I have read about some quality control issues with some units, but both of mine seem to be working and looking great so far. I also did the firmware upgrade on a factory fresh device. I think this helps with stability.

PS, Every new battery operated device i have owned I have always let it charged for 24 hours before messing with it. Even if they state they are fully charged when they come out of the box. I have always had pretty consistent battery life trough the life of the device. Just my personal experience.

Note Take Battery MAH on Chinese batteries with a grain of salt. I have seen the same model make of battery advertised and many different MAH. They never are tested at what they say. I would not be surprised if ainol novo9 and onda v972 use the same exact battery. The thing about numbers anyone good in math can make numbers say anything you want. And guess who is really good with numbers. :)
