Updating broke NFC Payments.
I have Magisk
I have Zygisk
Other banking apps are on the denylist and work fine
Phone passes safetynet.

Yet, on Google Wallet I get "Phone doesn't meet security requirements" on the setup page.

I tried MagiskHidePropsConfig (just flashed it), Universal SafetyNetFix and Shamiko... Neither work

Color/Oxygen OS android 13.1 update

NE2215_11.C.53 NA Boot image & ROOT

CAUTION!
Not my fault if your phone breaks.

WARNING!!!
Issues I've seen on previous devices:
- A few people have had bootloop issues due to using the wrong rom on the wrong phone. (e.g. Installing the Global ROM on a EU, IN, or CN model)
- If you have "FLASHED" the patched boot vice "BOOT" at anytime prior to this, then you should be able to use this since it's the full installation package.

I can't help you if your phone doesn't update properly.

PC Method

You all know I prefer the non-PC method since I pioneered it and was the first to bring it to XDA, BUT I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FOR MAJOR SYSTEM UPGRADES! READ STEP 6.

I have always run into issues and recommend you to follow this modified non-PC/PC method.

See Warning above.

Step 1: Put the update zip and stock boot files in your base directory.

Step 2: Unroot. You don't have to completely remove Magisk, just restore images. Open Magisk, click uninstall magisk, and only click restore images. DO NOT REBOOT!

Step 3: Open the system update app and install the update. DO NOT REBOOT!

Step 4: Open Magisk, click "Install", and "Select and Patch a File" to patch the stock boot (links above). Reboot.

Step 5: Copy the patched file to your PC.

Step 6: Reboot. You will lose root at this point, but you are guaranteed to update properly and not end up in a boot loop.

Step 7: Reboot and BOOT the newly patched boot image. Your file name will be different than what I'm posting so make it match.

adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot magisk_patched.img

If you get a waiting for device error, then you need to update your bootloader/fastboot driver.
Right click your PC iicon and click "Device Manager".
Click on "Drivers"
Look for the Android item with a yellow triangle.
Right click and select "Update Driver"
Click "Browse my computer for drivers"
Click "Let me pick....."
I installed the Google Bootloader driver, but maybe another will work for you, so just keep installing until you find one that works.

Step 8: Open Magisk and perform a direct install.

Step 9: Reboot.

NOTE: I do not know if the patched file will work for everyone. I've previously had problems using someone else's patched file and had to redo the patch before the phone accepted it. YMMV.

I just picked up this phone for $430 US and I'm gifting Pixel 6 to a family member. I hope I don't regret it. The widgets on the pulldown menu are really bad on the stock version. I can't toggle wireguard from here. I also already miss a lot of the camera functions on my pixel already and it's only been a couple days. Here's my version info. Is this method safe? Should I update or follow the steps in the guide first? Should I manually install updates after so I don't lose root?

you need to decide for yourself if this is safe or not. You should update to the latest and follow the latest guide from step 4 so you don't mess up.

I have magisk and root, trying to figure out what to do to get the latest update though. What files are needed for the next step. In the post above. You have an incremental update from on the googleapis domain, then the boot_a.img on Androidfilehost, and then below that you have the patched image. I unroot, then use the android settings utility to update? Or the OnePlus update utility?

This is the most recent update available in the OnePlus updater. In order for me to update to the most recent version that you posted instructions for today, what do I need to do? Do I unroot and install the update shown in my screenshot here? And then use the provided patched magisk img? I am asking because it looks like there is not a patched img for this specific build that is being offered to me in the updater.

I already told you that build is C.53. 2215 never received C.52 cause it had bugs in the IN and EU version.

all the updates I posted requires you to be on the previous version, so yes you need to install C.53 before installing C.54.

What is your current version?

Thanks for responding. Sorry for being difficult and not picking this up as easier as others. It's been a while since I've done anything with Android/phones. I think I fully understand now. I did this-

I restored images in magisk, downloaded update in Android Settings standard OTA, installed OTA, and then went back into Magisk and installed to inactive partition.

Screenshot_2023-06-05-14-06-21-97_40dbc481ca5b738a325e5182fc08a331.jpg

I think what's confusing me is that when you post the update drops there are multiple files in the posts. And I would only need/use those if I had to manually flash from fastboot, right? Android settings update utility is telling me I am fully up to date now even though I'm still pretty far behind. I am guessing that I need to start using the oxygen updater. Should I continue to use this same method moving forward?

Thanks again for helping me and developing this process. Feels good to be able to have root again. It's been years since I have had a rooted device.

ok, now that i know where you are starting from, firstly do NOT FLASH! You are SOL if you mess up the partitions.

Do not use the same update process for C.53. It is a major update and you risk bricking if you update it the same way as every ota.

for C.53: unroot and update, DO NOT ROOT. Reboot and update to C.54.

Download the C.54 boot image i posted and follow the original rooting process to patch, boot, and root.

You can then follow the standard update process for following OTAs until Android 14 is released.

    Thanks, it worked for me.

What i did was flashed stock recovery for current software version (in my case its c.53) only and then reboot.
Then unroot (restore image in magisk), patch stock boot in magisk then reboot.
Then fastboot boot patched boot, reboot.
    Direct install magisk then reboot.

After that i follow your step when upgrading for c.54 and so on until c.57.

    So far so good. Thanks.

This is for the NE2215 Rom.

    Step 1: Unlock your bootloader.

Step 2: Download and install Magisk Stable or Canary. Your choice, but I used Canary.
    https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk

Step 3: You can use either patch the stock boot or use my patched boot rom.
    https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=333790
NOTE: This is for the original stock image when the phone first came out. See below for updates and boot images.

    Step 4: Reboot to bootloader
    Code:
    adb reboot bootloader

Step 5: BOOT the patched boot rom! DO NOT FLASH!
    Code:
    fastboot boot patched_boot.img

    * change patched_boot.img to whatever your filename is.

Step 6: Open Magisk and perform a direct install.

    Step 7: Enjoy!

    Additional steps to pass safetynet:

Step 8: Open Magisk, open the Settings menu, enable Zygisk, and reboot.

Step 9: Download and install Universal Safetynet Fix (Zygisk) by @kdrag0n.
    https://github.com/kdrag0n/safetynet-fix/releases

Step 10: I forget if you really need this or not, but install it anyways.

    Step 11: Reboot.

    Step 12: Enjoy!

HOWEVER I did flash the boot image in fastboot.
Afaik, you're in a bit of a dire situation with this device. You basically need to pull the matching version of your boot image, not patched, flash that back, and pray that it works. Golden rule with this phone is you should NEVER flash anything from fastboot to this device unless you REALLY know what you're doing.

Step 4: Open Magisk, click "Install", and "Select and Patch a File" to patch the stock boot.

YMMV.

NE2215_11.A.12 International Boot image & ROOT

    CAUTION!
I do not know if are multiple OTA files for those still stuck on a previous versions before NE2215_11.A.12. I recommend just updating it through the system update. I updated through system update.

Not my fault if your phone breaks.

    WARNING!!!
Issues I've seen on previous devices:
    - A few people have had bootloop issues due to using the wrong rom on the wrong phone. (e.g. Installing the Global ROM on a EU, IN, or CN model)
    - If you have "FLASHED" the patched boot vice "BOOT" at anytime prior to this, then you can NOT use OTA unless you want to bootloop or end up in EDL and wipe the phone.

I can't help you if your phone doesn't update properly.
