Here is a discussion thread for all of us in UK!

I'm also interested to see how many people will get it from the pop-up event, oneplus website or o2.

Who's attending this?

It's an O2 exclusive as far as the networks are concerned so you'll only have the choice of direct from OnePlus/this pop up or O2. Specs are good on paper I'm just not sure about the design yet with big bezels remaining so will go look at one in store and I'd be getting the midnight black for sure if I buy it. Might wait to see when the new Moto X4 is released as that's been rumoured to be announced on the 30th and always liked the Moto devices. Decisions decisions.....

I will be getting the OP5 i reckon. I never liked the design of any of the Motorolas. I will be getting the black one definitely, apparently that colour will be reserved to the 8GB model according to rumours.

If buying from O2 there should be no colour reservation, black is their lead colour of the 2 being offered so from that I take it will be available on both sizes. I've never used the OP3T but if this has the claimed 20% longer battery life than that model I'm sure it'll be cracking. My 6P's battery is getting worse with age so needs replacing soon by something so I'm keen to get something new.

Also keen to see how good the 16 + 20MP f/1.7 rear camera with improved focus and shutter speed is as I'm more interested in a good camera then if it has a QHD screen. Will be interesting if the partnership with DXO actually paid off.

I think I need to do a side by side with my 6P to see how I'll get on with it as want to see if I'll miss the slightly bigger screen but then I doubt 0.2" will make a massive difference TBH. I defo prefer a rear central fingerprint sensor to front though so that will take some getting used to. 6P's a killer phone, just wish Google never killed off the Nexus line as would've definitely stayed loyal to the Nexus if they didn't, perfect spec for a perfect price.

I just got my 3T at the weekend. Passed my 6P to my wife as a replacement for her N6. For me, the 3T compares really well the the 6P. Definitely faster and smoother, camera not as good though although that matters more to my wife than me. The fingerprint sensor on the front hasn't been too much of a pain either. The drop in screen resolution isn't noticeable to me.

That all said iff the price is right and specs are good i'll probably return the 3T and get a 5.

Well if the 3T compares well to the 6P then the OP5 should do well! I've played with an S8 already and that feels awesome in hand and the screen looks crazy good so was tempted to save up for that however I really hate TW which ruins every release they have so has to be close to vanilla Android which this ticks the boxes for.

Oh well not long to wait now and we'll see how it stacks up but hopefully they continue their normal +£50 or so price increase and don't just whack £100 on top because they can.

For me the question is between the OP5 and the Nokia 9. I think I will be getting the OP5 as Nokia is an unknown for bootloader unlock and maybe waiting another few months until it's released where I like to get a phone soon after the processor in it is released.

I don't care about 1080p as it isn't really noticeable to 2k day to day (current and previous phones were 2k). Higher resolution is only beneficial for VR which I'm not interested in and just drains battery faster. Would be great if they move away from pentile display though.

Customisation via roms, up to date via security patches are important to me and we know OP has that based on their improvements with the 3/3T.

Lastly price on Nokia 9 is likely to be way more expensive than OP5 even if there is a price hike from the 3T.

I think the price of the Nokia 9 will be in the OP5 area. I was reading an article that they want to be the new Nexus phones.

I feel like both will be very good phones. The main thing that worries me about the Nokia 9 is that when you look at the Nokia 3,5 or 6 I don't think their bootloader can be unlocked (yet). I would rather go with a OP5 with unlockable bootloader than a phone that would require an exploit to achieve the same.

I'm really confused by something. Although I really want one of these, it seems I would never benefit from VoLTE 4G calls because the OnePlus phones are not sold on EE or Three for example. How do UK customers deal with this?

I benefit from VoLTE being out in the sticks so if I were to lose that, I probably wouldn't be able to use the phone for much at all.

Umm O2 does have WiFi and 4G calling actually. They switched it on in March.

Yeah that's true I suppose and with OnePlus you don't have to worry about voiding your warranty if you do unlock the bootloader.

Yes O2 offer OnePlus but I'm in the middle of a Three contract. In other words, the OnePlus 5 is useless to me because I wouldn't get VoLTE features right?

OnePlus don't have carrier versions though do they?

I assume even if you buy it from O2, it will have the same software as if you bought it from OnePlus themselves?
This is what I really don't know. O2 sell the OnePlus 3T but I can't find evidence that they change the firmware before shipping to make VoLTE work. However, both Three and EE have told me that VoLTE will not work on this device unless they supply the phone.
