Sure you can unlock bootloader.

Twrp will be replaced by the stock if you boot on stock kernel on stock OOS.
You need to flash root or custom kernel like blu_spark to keep twrp.
So flash twrp, reboot twrp, flash root or custom kernel, reboot system.

Guys, I've been reading this thread, but it doesn't seem to contain the info I'm looking for. I would love to confirm if the step by step procedure I envision is correct before I jump to this rooting and flashing adventure with OP5 (I used to flash a bunch of roms on my Moto X2 last year).

Prerequisite: my OP5 is running stock 5.1.

Step 1. Unlock BL
Step 2. Flash blu spark 8.61 TWRP (someone says chinese TWRP works better)
Step 3. Is it needed to flash OOS 5.1 full OTA zip now?
Step 4. Flash latest Magisk (v15.3, I guess) to have root.
Step 5. Reboot to recovery.
Step 6. Reboot to system.

Could you please let me know what's missing/redundant/wrong here?

Sure you can unlock bootloader.

I try unlock bootloader from rom beta 4 don't working..

If you want to use partial OTAs, you must first flash a full OTA that it applies to, and then flash the partial OTA from stock recovery. What full OTA must flashed and where? and after that,,, where do we must to flash the partial OTA?
Can someone name me the steps for a new unlock and everything from a device that never had all this boot unlock, recovery flash and everything adding a kernel?? I mean, when should we flashed the kernel, and what wipes should be applied if It is necessary ?

hi guys i need help, i followed the procedure on xda to unlock the bootloadre and root, after flashing magik the phone wont boot it just reboot in to recovery.

What's the difference between Nandroid Backup and EFS ?

EFS is the partition with your IMEI numbers where nandroid backup is the backup method which can backup those partition(and any other partition).

Hey there guys.

So I wanted to root my OP5 with Magisk.

Started the rooting process by watching YouTube videos (I'm kindda noob in this stuff) and I successfully unlocked my bootloader via ADB.

INSTALLED the TWRP and copied the relevant Magisk zip folder to my internal drive but TWRP is showing 0mb in my storage and I can't see zip files in any directory whatsoever.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong there?

On a second note, I also tried flashing Nougat official rom in my OP5 via TWRP but the same thing happened, no zip files are showing in TWRP.

Please help, I really want to enjoy all the rooted modules on my. ONEPLUS 5.

Updated #TWRP for Pixel devices and OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T with support for decrypting the February security patch.

Cant seem to enter fastboot - FIXED (I'm an idiot)

Hi, I've got a OP5 and ive followed your steps to the up to entering fastboot mode, the problem is as the title says, i cant seem to enter fastboot mode, I havent done actually done anything to my phone yet (apart from doing the dev settings, enable debuging etc.) when i try to enter fastboot mode i hear the USB connected noise from windows but nothing comes up on the phone, its just a black screen. I can turn the phone off as normal by holding the power button when in the non responsive 'fastboot' mode.
