Vegas, Baby!
Eh, the article isn't pure BS. Obviously if you bring this article to Android forums you are going to find that a vast majority of the people will call the article BS and say they love their Android phone. The same thing applies if someone were to post this very article on Apple forums, people would agree and say they love their iPhone. Fan-sites for devices are the most bias corners of the internet.

Just because many people here love their Android phones doesn't just mean the article is BS. Thats one thing everyone needs to remember: anyone posting on a fan-oriented forum/site is going to have a bias toward their hardware. They are also the vocal MINORITY. 99% of customers never ever post on a website or forum about how much they love their phone. Thus, people on sites like these represent a tiny fraction of the real market opinion.

Also, CNN Money ran the same story: http://money.cnn.com/2010/07/23/technology/iphone_4_att/index.htm?section=money_latest
Your missing the point, there are no references, proof or statistics, no details no data no nothing. All it is, is two numbers.

What about where the sources come from. I find it very hard to believe that only 20% would buy another android phone. Obviously they aren't asking EVERY android and iphone user, so they have to take a selection. Where is their selection from? AT&T smartphone users? an apple forum? In a mall just outside an apple store? I'm sorry but there's no proof to the article. I could make a claim that 100% of android users would buy another and that 0% would buy another iphone. My statistic comes from 4 people I know, myself, another friend with an android phone, and two iphone users that can't wait for their contract to end. Is that "proof"?

If the article really is legitimate then we should see a mass amount of people dropping android when their contracts expire, right? But all we've seen is a massive increase of android users: both through devices sold, and internet usage.

I must have missed the posts where people said that it was BS due to a lack of references. Seemed like everyone here was saying "Hell no, my brother and my two friends said they are getting another one, so thats 100%!"

And I entirely agree with you, there should be sources or the article should be disregarded. At the same time people citing their own statistics of how their mom, brother, friends, etc are keeping their devices is also pointless as a single customer, or even 10 customers represents an entirely insignificant percentage of the market share.

+1,000,000,000.
Again, I get that there needs to be sources, but don't go around trying to supply your own personal conversion story as that is no more credible. Not to mention any conversion rate an individual and his friends may have represents an insignificant portion in the big picture.

TL;DR: Sources are needed, but quit trying to prove the story wrong by saying "WRONG! My brother and me are both buying android again!", thats equally pointless.

I have had all the iphones except iphone4 and then I moved to android with the desire, then sold that and got a nexus....

There is no way I would ever have another apple iphone after sampling android. Why would I downgrade? Apple OS isn't as good as any android OS 1.5 and greater....

Froyo its just pure class, and totally is the benchmark for other phones to follow.

I think if it wasn't for fanboys, the apple iphone would be dead, as it has not even half the features a froyo'd nexus has!

Android will just get bigger and bigger, and I'm sure within 5 to 10 years will dominate the market, as the more intelligent user generation comes through, and the fanboy, "i can't even do my shoelace up without trading instructions" generation dies out.

Long live Android OS......

Isn't no source worse than an anecdotal source? Hell, If I cite you 10 people that would buy another android phone and someone else just comes along saying saying "there was a study that 20% of android users would buy another android phone" wouldn't you wonder, without any type of information on where it came from?

Especially since we have all these activations for new android phones, many companies behind android (I doubt they would back a platform with a 20% return rate), applications that are increasing, and everything seems to be on the up and rising from other statistics that are given. It just doesn't seem legitimate for one, plus it isn't a legitimate source as there is no knowledge of where the hell this came from.

I've had the G1 since its launch, and to be fair, it was REALLY user-unfriendly.

Now me being the way I am, loved messing with it and trying everything to improve it. Lots of my friends however, didn't like it because of those same reasons.

With the Nexus One I just recently got however, it couldn't be further from the truth.

the original post on moneycnn ( http://money.cnn.com/2010/07/23/technology/iphone_4_att/index.htm?section=money_latest#correction ) has been corrected and now has the following text added

"An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that 20% of Android customers say they'll buy another Android phone. The survey actually revealed that 20% of all smartphone customers say they'll buy an Android phone."
That's pretty interesting now.

Considering the android market accounts for something like 10-15% of the market share.

It actually means and increase in android interest.

All I can say is maybe everyone said they will buy a new iPhone because, well.. lets face it, most people that get an iPhone upgrade every year.

The new Android phones are so powerful and good that you don't need an upgrade anytime soon. My N1 will be still in business 2 years from now.

No, I wouldn't want the personal evidence from here either. Why? Because this is a friggin Android fanboy forum, what kind of responses do you think you'll get here? Thats like going to an NRA meeting and asking if you think there should be a ban on guns. People are posting here because they own and enjoy their Android devices. Aka this is the most bias source possible.

Well, just like most of us thought, there was something wrong with it. And 20% of smartphone users buying another is actually pretty impressive. Android really is on the rise.

Yes, they both are bad sources, my point the is you at least know the origin of the one. With the other you don't even know that, or amount of people used in the survey.

Woah wait, what? Are you suddenly accepting the data now that it shows Android in a more positive way? Not the way it works. There still IS something wrong, and thats no numbers or proper info about the survey group. Just because it pats Android now doesn't mean you can accept what you're reading.

But the origin of people here doesn't matter, again because its entirely 100% bias. The only way to properly do a survey like this is to randomly go up to 5000 people on the street and ask them "Given the choice of phones on the market, which would you buy?"

Here's what you need to read.

Summed up: Only phones running Vanilla Android were included. So no Droid or EVO 4G

Conclusion: Android is still (as we all know) kicking Apple's shiny and glossy ass.
That's actually wrong.

There's two kinds of "google phones".

1) "With Google" is anyphone that has google applications loaded up, just about every single android phone that has the market on it.

2) "Google Experience" currently limited to G1, Nexus, and I think the original Mytouch. These phones have only Google apps and no other other software/modifications on it.

Not really accepting it as fact, I don't accept surveys as fact due to their very nature. They only take a sample of the whole, but now it is more reasonable since it coincides with a number of other factors, the main one being several devices being sold out (droid x, evo, etc) the google 160k activations a day, etc. Also I'm basic this off of info found from from the group doing the survey: <http://blogs.yankeegroup.com/2010/07/26/setting-the-record-straight-on-iphone-and-android/#more-4599>

True, although surveys all have their flaws with them as you aren't getting the whole but rather the part or small selection of the group.

only those three phones? come on! theres the EVO, Droid, Droid X, MyTouch Slide. if those great Android phones were included the numbers would be different.

**PS, it would be an Apple Fanboy idiot to write "iPhone 4" on his cheek from that picture "
