Didn't worked for me.

But! I've took full ColorOS Beta C31 and extracted the boot.img and vbmeta.img from there. And it worked well for me.

How to root Oxygen 12 Beta 2?

Here is step by step guide:
- Bootloader have to be unlocked
- Downloading ColorOS Beta C31 (it has a same base like OB2)
- Extracting all files from archive of ColorOS Beta C31
- Extracting all files from payload.bin (through payload dumpers, like this)
- We need two files boot.img and vbmeta.img
- boot.img we have to patch with Magisk Manager (from smartphone)
- copy patched boot.img from smartphone to platform-tools directory on pc
- vbmeta.img and patched boot.img we have to copy to platform-tools directory

- And from fastboot we push few commands
  1. fastboot flash --disable-verity --disable-verification vbmeta vbmeta.img
  2. fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
- Reboot and its done.

Here is the original boot.img and vbmeta.img and patched boot.img - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JYximrPJ65NlpQv8tVW-O_02uL0dscJW?usp=sharing
I can confirm that this works to root OB2,but, for Tmobile, the magisk.img breaks data completely.

thats why I flashed the ColorOS vbmeta img and BOOTED the patched boot.img. After that I did a direct install from Magisk.
That's exactly what I did. I have a TMobile variant converted. I had to tinker a lot to get my data working on OB1 and 2. The Cos.img booted and rooted, just data completely broke. Once uninstalled magisk it's fine. TMobile variants are a bit of a PITA

Yeah I had the TMO 7t and 8t. Got tired of running through hoops just to get bootloader unlocked and bought my 9 pro outright. I wanted to try TMO modem on my 9 pro though.

Am I able to just use the same boot.img and vbmeta.img that is linked at the end?

I realize I'm a couple weeks late to the party, but I still can't get OB2 to install. I was rooted on OB1 and I unrooted by flashing the original boot.img to both slots, but when I try the update it gets about 1/3 of the way and says Installation Problem. What am I missing? How did you update?

Edit: Nevermind, I was able to do it by using the apk from this OnePlus post to reinstall OB1 full zip, then upgrade to OB2 (then OB3).
