The OB40 firmware upgrade broke my decryption too, so I can't start my phone anymore.. Is there any chance to avoid a clean flash?

I don't have my data encrypted i think (no password on boot and recovery) but my bloader is unlocked. Am i risking loss of data ? (not that it matter a lot, but i don't want to reinstall apps right now)

Even if you do not have a password at the boot, it does not mean you're not encrypted

Check in Settings whether you are encrypted or not. If not encrypted, you have to format /data and all your personal files will be lost. So take a backup.

Last time I was on 9.0.2 pie and I decided to go to sultan ROM. When I flashed the nougat firmware { after wiping everything except internal storage; obviously} then TWRP asked to decrypt my data with the password. But I did not set up any boot password or lockscreen password. Even then after many attempts It did not accept any password so I formatted my phone to proceed.
So I want to know:
Does pie firmware does not include built in encryption support if I go down from pie to oreo or Nouagt.

Reflash 5.0.8 FW
@jokuni I ran into the same issue after updating to the 9.0.3 Pie release. But unlike with you, after I reflashed the 5.0.8 FW and Modem firmware from this thread, I could successfully decrypt in TWRP. So I could save all my data. Great!

Ok, what I just wrote - unfortunately - is not true. It did say "decryption successful" in TWRP, but when I want to access my internal storage it is listed as empty. Wtf?

At least you could reflash to 5.0.8 and decrypt via TWRP again.

I face similar problems like you, could you please explain to me how you went back successfully to 5.0.8? Thanks in advance!
