Same problem with 9.0.3

After flashing the OPO3 modem firmware 9.0.3 I also could not decrypt the storage anymore and even after after full factory reset of LOS16 with modem9.0.3 in addition the fingerprint reader was not working anymore.
After I reflashed modem 5.0.8 the fingerprint reader worked again.

At least you could reflash to 5.0.8 and decrypt via TWRP again.
Sorry, no, it did not work. Yes, I reflashed 5.0.8 successfully. But decryption was still unsuccessful. So I lost all my data.

I face similar problems like you, could you please explain to me how you went back successfully to 5.0.8? Thanks in advance!
I just flashed the 5.0.8 zip linked in the OP. But as I write above, it did not help.

In the end I went again to 9.0.3 and installed LinageOS 16. No problems with fingerprint reader or anything.

@ChrisLane & @Sturmmoewe21: welcome to the club. T_T I didn't know that you can encounter these problems with 9.0.3, in my case it was because of 9.0.2. Maybe you could explain further what you did and how you ran into this problem exactly.

@tim_h: oh, what a pity. Then I misunderstood. Yeah, you did what I did too, just flash ROMs and deal with losing my /data partition. I don't bother anymore if I'm on 9.0.3 or 5.0.8, my unsuccessful decryption didn't work with both flashed versions. :-/

Take care and good luck! Bleeding edge can be tough sometimes...

Although in this case clearly OnePlus are to blame. They knew about this - severe - issue, and in fact everything works fine with locked bootloader. So they either did not care or they intentionally broke this for people with unlocked bootloader. Both explanations really are not flattering for OnePlus.

:good:

Yeah, that's what I felt a couple of weeks ago too when I encountered this problem and dived deeper and deeper into this topic over a couple of days.

But we should take care with such rumours. In the end it's a company and they want to sell us stuff. We're always free to choose another manufacturer. We trusted a Chinese company, it wasn't the other way round.

Although I think they still develop incredibly sophisticated hardware, this issue leaves bitter tastes anywhere, to be honest. :(

I simply put the zip on the phone and then installed it using TWRP 3.3.1, I didn't clear any caches.
After being informed that the data was "corrupt", I clicked "Reset" and set my phone up again. Everything works fine now, but the update meant that I had to start from scratch.

Good job I had some backups and data online :)

Well, I wasn't really "playing", just installing an official update (not even beta) from OnePlus, which has worked flawlessly 100 times before. Except this time it hasn't.
Ok, rare case of yours. I only warn those who like to play with unofficial software like me

9.03 broke passwords?

I updated my firmware to 9.03 which seems to be needed for the latest LineageOS update, but after doing so it told me my password was wrong (many entries, it's not that complex, very sure I'm typing right). I reverted to 5.08 and was able to sign into my device again. To try to get the upgrade going, I removed passwords from my device, then flashed 9.03, then went in & set a password, and it is again telling me my password is wrong. Only now, reverting to 5 does not fix the problem. As a result, I'm effectively locked out of the security settings. Any suggestions?

I was able to revert easily by flashing 5.08. Downgrading is supported. My thought would be download the 508 firmware on your PC, push it over with adb tools then flash. Good luck

GPS Performance on 9.0.3

I have always had poor GPS performance on my OnePlus 3 - took a minute or so to get first fix and would typically have an error of 15m or more and often lose GPS fix, which was frustrating as I use the phone for Strava, driving etc. I tried every fix I could find without success so put the poor GPS down to hardware. This is on both stock and lineage.

Last week I upgraded from 5.0.8 to 9.0.3 (already on lineage 16). What a difference. I now get a GPS fix from a cold start in 3 seconds. Outside the accuracy is 3 - 4 m. I even get a fix indoors, where previously I could not, and accuracy about 9 m.

It is like having a new phone.
