Hi people, actually, what build do you prefer for your op3T ? Arnova ? Urnyx ? Nikita ? TOlyan ?

Hello guys and thanks to the dev for developing google camera port for all phone. Though I need some suggestions, there are a lot of options and I'm a little confused which one to download is there a way or any guide for helping someone like me to understand. If any one can provide any links or something that could help me I'll be greatly obliged, thanks in advance.

Hi people, anyone did some heavy test with settings ? I'm a bit lost about the different pattern to use ( Pixel 2, 3, 4, 5 ??). I use the Nikita version and the BSG private build too.... I wonder if anyone did test to compare differents settings.

For what I remember, pixel 3 and 3xl were the best settings for a long time. Sometimes I saw pixel 2 being used but I think it was for the reddish color pixel could give (fixed since a long time). I have Nikita as well and just applied the recommended xml for oneplus 3t. But I'm pretty sure settings can be optimized

Hi Sudhangshu,

Can you help me choose which version to install and config to use for OP3? Any Download links will be appreciated. TIA
Hello
And sorry I was kinda busy here,
Well if you have op3t then you can install gcam from Arnova8g2, and about configs I don't use them so I can't provide you any.
Here a link I hope you can find something in it.

Changes needed for BSG's GCam 8:

Some of the settings should be kept with the default settings, but some need to be changed (green). Settings > Mod settings:

- Smartphone: AUTO
- Interface: Pixel II
- HDR+ device: Pixel IV_XL (Coral)
- RAW format for HDR+: RAW10
- Preview format: YUV
- Quality HDR+: (select what you want. higher = more HDR frames, but slower)

You can also enable Motion Photos, if you use this feature (requires Google Photos; files are bigger; doesn't work when HDR enhanced is enabled). Tracking focus works and can be enabled too, but the experience on older/slower phones isn't very good.

Settings > Advanced lets you enable HDR Enhanced (then enable the option in the viewfinder) and you should explore the rest of the settings to disable sounds, enable grids, etc, if you want.

I only tested it with Android 10 (LineageOS 17.1). I don't know if it works on the stock OxygenOS (Android 9). GCam 7 and 6 are still more complete and stable bases in my opinion.

@S4turno anyway BSG is updated to MGC_8.1.101_A9_PV0h

it works overall great on op3t. But, i always have problem with v8.1.x , which is i CAN'T preview photo within gcam, it's just showing blank/black screen.*i DON'T use google photos and motion photos always disabled btw*. So i need to open the 3rd party gallery app manually to view them.
Q's:
Any idea how to make it possible ?? because there's no setting to enable like 'use 3rd party gallery app' etc in v.8.1.

edit: and last dumb question, what's the actually difference between .snap vs .eng apk anyway? I mean technically and usability (i used .eng apk anyway)
thank you!

Now that we know that BSG's 8.1 works on the OP3/3T, just try the latest one. BSG is releasing lots of updates, but since this thread seems to be a bit dead, I won't post them all here to avoid spam.

It seems that his version requires Google Photos. Unless he adds support to other gallery apps, there's nothing users can do.

A few days ago, Arnova8G2 posted a message on the OP3/3T telegram group saying that his next update would work on this phone (he was testing on Android 10/LineageOS 17). His version supports 3rd party gallery apps, but I don't know when he'll release the apk.

For this phone, all package names should work fine. They can be installed side by side because each apk have different package names. This is useful if you want to have multiple GCams installed.

The reason why we are starting to see more apks for each release is because some brands only allow certain package names to access some features. For example, OnePlus decided to block access to the extra cameras (wide, telephoto, etc) on their newer devices with Android 11... only apps with the "snapcam" package can use (some of) those cameras. In their case, different pkg names means different available features.

By the way, for people thinking of buying a new phone and use a 3rd party camera app on it (eg: GCam), I would recommend staying away from OnePlus. Android 10 already had some limitations (which modders managed to fix), but with the Android 11 update, they really cracked down on the access to the extra cameras. From the 7, 8, and Nord series, only the 8 Pro doesn't have serious limitations... Asus or Xiaomi seem to be better options at this point for GCam users.

Is this compatible with Evolution X 4.6 Android 10?

Thank you!

Maybe it could be good to explain this to One Plus. Personnaly i hate Xiaomi and would re buy a OP when i will change. Maybe OnePlus will change :)

So 8 pro is still good to pick up now?

For now yes, but keep in mind that all other devices have more restrictions after the Android 11 update. Will the 8 Pro be fine or will they "fix it" with a future software update too?

I think something changed behind the scenes. The limitations on OnePlus' Android 11 are the same as the ones you can find on OPPO, Vivo and Realme phones. Maybe they're now sharing some or more code among them? They're owned by the same company after all.

Looking back, I'm glad I went with Asus when I upgraded from the OP3. I can use 48MP and the wide camera on my Zenfone 6, GCam and other camera apps work fine, no need for root or custom ROMs...

I've updated my configs for GCam 7 from Wichaya and Nikita:

- Wichaya (GCam 7.3 v3.1.1): op3-wichaya7.3_3.1.1-v1.1.xml
- Nikita (GCam 7.4 v2.0): op3-nikita7.4_2.0-v1.1.xml

Two main changes:

- AWB now enabled by default. It might change colours a bit indoors, but helps with the pink tint this phone suffers from.
- Reverted the changes I made to the lib patcher. Now it mostly uses default values and the detail comes from the "sharpness" option.

The last point affects a detail a bit. Last week I went outside and managed to test GCam on this phone, something that I don't do often because 1) it's no longer my main phone and 2) the pandemic/lockdowns limit a bit what I can do. While some pictures looked fine, others had some weird patterns/artifacts/noise and looked really bad.

I decided to go back to stock lib patcher values and only use the "sharpness" option to increase detail. This is likely to sometimes produce less detailed pictures, but it should work better across different conditions.

These are meant to be configs that you use as base. Then you can disable or enable what you want (eg: enable/disable AWB, grid, etc).

If someone used my configs before and had issues, try the new ones. Feedback is welcome.

I don't think anyone will mind if you post regular updates here. Unless it's too much of a hassle for you. Probably most people haven't written here because they are using a slightly outdated but perfectly working gcam version. But I have been checking here regularly to see if there is a new post.

    Google Camera Port
Stable versions and configs for the OnePlus 3/3T.

    [ FAQ's/Troubleshooting | Front camera fix | ARCore & Playground ]

    Features:
Features depend on the GCam and Android version used, but overall:

    - HDR+ Enhanced, Night Mode, Portrait Mode, Timelapse, Motion Photos, Lens Blur, Panorama, Photo Sphere, Photobooth, Motion tracking.
    - Video (30/60FPS at 1080p, 30FPS at 4K), Timelapse, Slow motion (with a fix, check the FAQs for more info).
    - ARCore and Playground (follow this guide);

    How to use:
    1. Download and open/install the apk file (how to).
    2. Unless there's a "configs" or "suggested settings" link next to the download link or some settings posted with the apk, the app is ready for use.

    - Some *old* versions require the front camera fix. 3T users also need this fix in order to take 16MP photos with the front camera.
    - Feel free to explore the settings, but keep in mind that enabling the wrong options will cause problems.
    - Issues? Check the troubleshooting post.

Stable settings for Arnova8G2's apks based on GCam 5.1.014, v10 or above. Tested on a OP3 running LOS 14.1.

    Settings:
    Config camera HDR+:
Nexus 6 Auto (or something with "Nexus 6" in the name. Nexus 6P and Pixel settings are not stable)
    Model:
Pixel 2XL (or Nexus 6P if you want more detailed images)
    HDR+ parameters:
    Default (or higher)

    - Check the "Advanced" menu for some useful settings/features:
-- Portrait mode, RAW, etc (check the main post for a list of working features)
    - Android Oreo users: you may need to go to "Debugging and tools" and uncheck "camera.use_photos" so you can see your photos from inside the app.
    - The rest (video resolution, camera sounds, etc) is up to you.

    Notes/Warnings:
    - Some of the options mentioned here are not available on older apks.
    - You need to restart the app so the new settings are applied.

    Motion Photos:
    - You need to be running Android 8+ (doesn't work on Android 7 or older);
    - Not as stable as the settings above;
    - You need to have Google Photos installed;

    Config camera HDR+:
One of the Pixel 2017 settings
    Model:
    Pixel 2XL
    HDR+ parameters:
    Default (or higher)
    Photo Resolution (important):
    (16:9) 12.1 megapixels (4:3 don't work with motion photos)

Warning: You need to restart the app so the new settings are applied.

    Screenshots:
    Screenshot_20171118-160814.png
    Screenshot_20171118-160819.png

    Why these settings?
    Model:
It's up to you. I use the "Nexus 6P" option because it produces more detailed/crisp photos (downside: more noise) when compared to the Pixel settings. Because most users seem to prefer the "Pixel" quality (less noise and smaller file size, but also less detail), if you are one of them, use the "Pixel 2XL" option.

    Config camera HDR+:
On the OP3/3T we are forced to choose one of the "Nexus 6" settings (Nexus 6 Auto, Nexus 6 ZLS, etc). All the other configs crash the app or work partially (but end up crashing under certain conditions... eg: when taking pictures of bright things).

    HDR+ parameters:
tl;dr: higher settings = better quality, but it takes more time to process the image.

Others have shared their tests here and the difference is not huge, so start with the "default" setting (the lower available) and go higher if needed.

For those who are waiting for a reply, fixes, etc, from Arnova8G2:

I'm told that he was in a motorcycle accident and spent a few days in the hospital. According to his friend, he's using a wheelchair, but will be able to walk again with physiotherapy. For this reason, he will be away from development for a while.

I wish him a full and speedy recovery.
