I updated android 10 with this method, and that always worked. I don't use magisk modules bit still no luck updating from OB1 to 2 with root using this method.

Did you update from Android 10 to OB1 using this method?

I Will explain better
Before anything u have to remove all magisk modules if any.
Do a local upgrade from OB1 to OB2(be sure that u are already rooted with magisk).
Dont reboot,go to magisk manager and install magisk in inactive slot after OTA.
Reboot and u are rooted.

I took the risk to try this way and it worked for me

Yes, but you have to convert to Canary first.

Also, if successful, reinstall Magisk again or it will be gone when you reboot again.

Anyone have a patched OB 2 img?

I already upgraded and tried the inactive slot Magsik trick, but I guess I was not on Cannery. I suppose my options are to go back to OB 1, root and make sure I am on cannery, or use a patched image for OB 2 and make sure I am on cannery going forward. Option 2 seems like less steps, but I need the image :)

My phone is in2023 (EU)
In my case i did something wrong and i was on ob2 no root.

I fix it like this:
- roll back to Oos may 2020. Update to Oos 5.10.12 Eu.
- instaled latest Magisk Manager (stable or like me i use Canary)
- root by flashing patched.img to both slots in Fastboot.
- upgrade to Oos OB2 Android 11 with Local upgrade. DON'T reboot !
- open Magisk > install > Direct iinstall
- back in Magisk > install > Install to inactive slot after' OTA
reboot

Now i'm on ob2 with root.

You need patch boot.img for youre specific phone model. Mine is in2023, for example.

Are you sure? Cause I tried to download firmware from OP, and there seem to be only one firmware file (OB2) available for the OnePlus 8 Pro ?

Wanted to extract the boot.img from it, however I couldn't download it.

I tried to boot it, it boots fine on my IN2023, but there is no root!? Is it the original or patched version?

EDIT: Patched the OB2 provided, booted on it (got root) and then installed from magisk (canary). Rooted OB2 ;)

Here is the patched OB2 you can boot with (fast boot <img>).

EDIT2: Got the phone for 20 minutes, already rooted with latest Android 11! Love it.
