That's not at all what I'm asking and it looks like a canned response to be honest...

Come on, I'm an XDA member since June 2009. I know the basics already.

I've already unlocked my bootloader. I've flashed several custom roms and kernels already and I can definitely see it says "bootloader unlocked = yes" under Service Info.

I've already got Emma up and working and it detects my phone FINE. I get a screen similar to this:

The thing is, under the "Select Service" part, I don't see any softwares to download. It shows my phone's info under "Connected Item" ok so it's definitely recognized in Emma.

If you read this page, it doesn't seem like D6653 is supported:
http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/supported_phones/

So back to what I was asking.....is it safe to flash a D6603 bootloader FTF file using flashtool on a D6653?

Hmm,
It seems you have the link to your answer already

In the beta version of the flash tool for Xperiaâ„¢ devices, only a limited number of device models and software versions are supported. In most cases, there are several variants of a model, and normally we only support the international variant. Check the model number in the list below to make sure your variant is supported.

So the answer is no.

PS, I was not trying to annoy you as your first unedited post said, I was just in a rush and trying to get a potentially useful reply off to you before I left for work. in my experience lots of people confuse EMMA with flashtool and think they can use it on a locked bootloader

Yeah, it does say that it's only limited to international variants, but my question was whether we can flash a D6603 FTF (which contains the open device bootloader from Sony) on a D6653 using flashtool from flashtool.net instead?

Alternatively, if I flash an old D6603 FTF using flashtool, will Emma recognize my phone model as D6603 and allow me to use it?

The only difference between D6603 and D6653 is I believe the baseband/radio. Other than that, I've tried custom ROMs for D6603 on my D6653 and it works fine. Not sure about bootloader though.

nvm, got it all working.

Apparently, Emma doesn't show "Open Device" in the ROM names anymore. If Sony's website says XYZ device is supported with Open Device recovery/firmware, then you'll just have to assume all their ROMs in Emma are already open device firmwares.

Just flashed a recovery to recovery partition via fastboot. Booted into TWRP fine.
