Does it require root access? I'm on the note 8 U1 and the only thing I really want is the keyboard from Oreo. Don't care much about the rest

Yes, it requires root.

settings / lockscreen.
1. lockscreen-no
2. enable install app unknown sources
3. remove pin sim cards
4. copy the apk file to the home screen.
5. reboot and when phone is turned on install app

Well I'm going to flash Oreo tonight. Was on it but missed some of the U1 firmware features but will flash back to it. It is very smooth on the CRBB version so that's what I'm going with.
