I successfully installed twrp on my huawei mate se, but I'm a little confused of your instructions.

I flashed the file twrpimgmount_ramdisk.img through fastboot

after downloading that twrpimgmount_ramdisk.img file, i put it in my platform-tools folder and then i put this in the terminal(i'm using linux)

sudo ./fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrpimgmount_ramdisk.img

i got a finished message,

i put my phone into recovery, and it worked! i was able to go into twrp

So then your next step says to:
" Backup/restore and flash image functions are tested for system/vendor/product/version/cust/oeminfo/recovery/recovery2/boot rest of them are not tested by me but should work."

what exactly does this mean?

Afterwards, it says make a complete backup in the memory card before rooting,
which i did, but im not sure if it worked, because it says failed, i clicked on all the partitions, was that the correct thing to do? there was a lot of them
heres how my screen looks:

<picture-below>

then on your last instructions it says " flash TWRP Complete Backup Ramdisk"

why do we have to flash that TWRP Complete Backup file, what exactly does that file do, i am confused about that part

and last where do we get that Magisk 16.0 file, you didn't leave a link to the download

thank you

ok i tried that second file, there is 4 file in that link he gave us, i put into the terminal for file a:

sudo ./fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp_ramdisk_oreo_19-4-18.img

and i got stuck on the twrp boot screen, for that file a

i download file b, and it doesnt even go into twrp, it gets stuck on "your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted screen"

i tried file c, and it worked, i was able to go into twrp, but i got the same errors when i tried to doing a backup of all the partitions, error 225

i tried the last file d, i was able to go into twrp, and make a backup but i got the same error, error 225

does that mean i wasnt able to make a full backup?
do i really have to click on ALL of those partitions?

on the twrp website, it says i should only backup "system & data"

i tried that clicking on system and data only , and i still got ERROR: 255
this time i got 4 file instead of 2 in the backups folder

data.f2fs.win000 866MB
system.ext4.win000 1.61GB
system.ext4.win001 0.99GB
recovery.log 1.69MB

should i just try to root it without making a backup?
where is that magisk file..
hmm

the two different twrp(image, and complete) are because complete one cant copy the system.img correctly and image one cant flash things (like magisk) I beleive.

neither of them can work with /data because of the encryption.

But you can read all this in the thread. Also o last few pages you will find talk and links to different recovery that does work with /data encryption.

so the "image" image is for making a backup of system?
and the "complete" image is just for flashing magisk?

i tried that and i think it worked,

these are the screens i got during making a backup of "system" only with the "image" twrp

<image below>

i tried that guy's twrp, the "lite" one, but i still get error 255 when i tried to back the "data" partition
is it really necessary to make a backup of the data partition? or am i fine with the system backup only

also, where is the magdisk file,
i looked online, i found one here:
http://www.desinerd.co.in/how-to-huawei-mate-se-root-twrp-recovery/

but you said those instructions were for android not oreo

they give a link for magiskv16.0
and verity

thanks

it worked!! with that guys lite file

the problem was when i went into twrp, it asked me to put in my pattern password to decrypt, the first time i went into it, i didn't put my pattern password because i thought it was weird since the other twrp's never asked me that before, and i went to cancel, and tried to back up,

the second time i put in my pattern password, and it decrypted my phone

i tried to do the backup on data and it worked!

woooo hoooo!
i also did a full backup of all the partitions without problems, although there was less partitions than before

now i just need that magdisk file, where to get it

almost done!

I used magisk 16, I had no problems. I flashed it with twrp. I believe the op in this thread suggest majisk 16 also.
I think now there is few point versions higher, but I have not used ,

need help with recovery

my device isnt bricked and i can load into the system, but i cant load into any twrp that i flash, either i get stuck at the device has been unlocked and cant be trusted, it gets stuck at the twrp splash screen, or it gives me the recovery error mode (probably need a no verify recovery).. i want to return the device back to stock or get a working twrp on my device.

currently running havock os rom, erecovery wont download the stock rom at all.
any help will be greatly appreciated.

Am I doing something wrong? I flash the twrpimgmount_ramdisk image and it claims it was successful though holding power + volume up just presents me with Huawei e-Recovery?

Edit: Left USB cable in accidentally, whups!
