@kangi26 thanks for fixing the U1 ATT link ... flashed on my ATT phone and no more ATT bloatware ... hotspot still works!!!

EDIT: Samsung Pay is telling me my card is invalid, though it's the same card i used on my Note 9 (both on U and U1 firmwares) and two days ago on my Note 20 before I flashed U1. Not sure if related to the U1 or if Samsung thinks i'm trying to register to multiple devices and decided to block it...

The same thing happen to me when I was adding my primary debit card to Samsung pay. It happened when I was on the stock AT&T software as well. It let me add other cards though.

I am hearing that AT&T will eventually allow all the carrier features on the samsung unlocked devices anyway.. Now with the hotspot, does the US unlocked hotspot not go against our usage if our plan has hotspot already included? For example, I have 10 GB hotspot in my plan but if i use hotspot on my N20 ultra will it count against 10 GB or just be seen as regular data usage?

Tips on flashing U1 Firmware thanks to @mm60 for being the guinea pig and doing the base write up

Flash the U1 firmware, which you can get on Frija. Make sure you use the patched ODIN linked in post #2, Odin3_v3.13.3b.
Boot up the phone with an active US Carrier SIM installed.
Go through the initial setup and connect to Wi-Fi.
When the pop-up saying that the phone "needed to apply carrier settings and reboot", agreed and let it reboot.
Once the phone reboots, go through the setup and verify the Service Provider is your carrier (VZW/SPR/TMB/ATT, etc) is in the Settings.
Flashed the U firmware again with the USERDATA file and set it up again (The USERDATA file is Carrier agnostic. The carrier features/apps will be installed based on the active carrier SIM that's installed when it's flashed)

Thank you and mm60 so much for this. I couldn't figure out how to get back on the unlocked firmware with Frija but I managed to get the unlocked XAA firmware from SamMobile. I downloaded that and the used your pacthed Odin3 v3.13.3b to flash it. I let it run the initial set up and let it activate with T-Mobile and then reboot. I went through the basic setup, checked that I was indeed connected to T-Mobile, and then went back into the bootloader screen. I downloaded the old T-Mobile firmware from SamMobile (TGM) and flashed it along the TMB userdata. Sure enough, it booted to the T-Mobile splash screen and the T-Mobile prompts for their apps were there. I sued the TGM firmware to check if the OTA would officially work, and once I clicked to check for software update sure enough it said there was one officially through T-Mobile. I did the update, factory reset the phone, and then used SmartSwitch to bring all my call logs, text, wallpaper, apps, etc... back. Thank you guys so much for the help. Who knew that it would make such a difference that initially I just flashed the T-Mobile firmware before letting the initial unlocked software provision my T-Mobile sim. I guess I was just too excited that first day, lol. It's all good now. Thank you guys so so much.

In the past, there were several differances in the file name used for updated firmware (U versus U1) but it seems like with the Note's firmware, those differences are less noticable. Of course we have N965U1 compared to N965U - but if you go back and look at the firmware for the S20 Ultra, there were several other significant differences in the names used for the firmware - while with the Note firmware, they are almost identical, except for the U and U1 -

Am I completely wrong about this and more importantly, is there any real significance to this ? Probably doesn't mean anything, but I thought I would ask what your thoughts are about this ---- (or am I just crazy to ask ?) :)

What carrier do you have? If you have At&t of course you can flash it. It is At&t unlocked firmware. Is your device U1 or U? The U firmwares are the same. When flashed they will provision to your sim. Usually unlocked firmware you do not have wifi calling and have to flash U csc to get wifi calling. But when you do that you lose software update toggle in settings.

Wondering whats the difference between home csc and only csc?

Home doesn't wipe. Regular forces a wipe.

Can I just flash the ATT firmware from POST #2 ? I want OTA and Samsung Pay to work with ATT features. I am ok with extra apps.

You can flash any firmware to any device of the same model. Even swapping between U and U1 in either direction.

Samsung pay will work regardless.

OTA will work as long as you flash all of the U, and flash to a version released by ATT. If you flash a version they skip, it'll break your OTA until you flash something att has released.

As for features its hit or miss. My Note 10 U1 plus couldn't get VOLTE or Wifi calling, even on U. They need to white list the imei which they don't typically do. Very much a YMMV. A little late now but if you're planning on using att your better off buying an ATT U device than unlocked. I switched to t-mobile for that reason

See Post #2 and #3 for the Links to the Firmware
ALL of the firmware posted here can be flashed on any N986U/N986U1 Device. The firmware is NOT carrier dependent and is only listed next to some of them in order to have an idea if you might get OTA when you flash it

    Understanding Firmware naming:

    N986USQU1ATGM
    N=Note
986U or F etc, the model of device
SQ, FX etc = CPU and model specific
U,S,E = Update, Security, Engineering, respectively
1,2,3,4,5 etc = bootloader revision (This is important! You cannot go to a previous revision)
    A,B,C,D = Android version
    T, U = Year (T=2020, U=2021 etc)
    A,B,C etc = month (January A - December L)
1 - 9 and then A - Z =build compilation. This basically means how many builds there are in a month. They start at 1 and go to Z
    So N986USQU1ATGM would be
    N968-U-SQ-U-1-A-T-G-M
    N968U (Note 20 Ultra Carrier version), SQ (Snapdragon), U (Update), 1 (Bootloader version), A (Build 10), T (2020), G (July), M (22nd build)

    How to enter Download Mode:
    Turn off the device.
Connect USB cable to your PC (Leave it disconnected from the phone)
Press and hold down the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons. While they are still pressed, plug in the USB cable into your phone.
The phone will go into download mode press volume up. In Odin you will see that phone is added.

    Dirty Flash:
I would only do this if you are having to manually update to the newer firmware and would not do it if you are coming/going to U/U1 or from beta firmware or if you are on an old firmware. I'd also highly recommend doing a back up prior to the doing this
    Load these into Odin
    BL
    AP
    CP
    HOME_CSC
Do NOT flash CSC or USERDATA, either of these WILL wipe your device
This is a "dirty flash" and these can sometimes cause issues. Keep in mind if things start going sideways and stuff starts not working right, your first step to a solution will be to wipe the device.

    Tips on flashing U1 Firmware:
You will have to wipe, can NOT dirty Flash going between U and U1 firmware
Use the patched ODIN linked in post #2 or #3, Odin3_v3.13.3b (They are exactly the same)
Have an active US Carrier SIM installed to get carrier features

If you get your CSC Stuck on XAA/XAA/(Insert your carrier here), and can not get Carrier options back.

Just a little heads up to everyone. When Android 12 drops for U1, I'll be removing the Beta stuff since we wont need it any longer. I try to keep things a little clean and tidy 😁
