Steelplate..
If you are still on bootloader 1 on your note 20 ultra then the N986U1UEU1DUB5 is the last update that you can get without going over to the bootloader 2. I know bootloader 1 you can get root but not on bootloader 2. The "DUB5" update is Android 11 with One UI 3.1. That's what I got on my Note cause I don't wanna loose root access. But at the end I might end up upgrading to bootloader 2 versions just cause I've been thinking a lot about the esim option. I upgraded from Android 10 to Android 11 "DUB5" using the "Home_CSC" option and didn't lose any of my information. Hope that helps out with your question.

Note: bootloader 2 "DUI7" update for N986U1 does not have esim option enable as of this post.
Thanks Link. Very helpful

It seems our rooting days are numbered. eSIM sounds great, and it makes a lot of sense. But, I've had rooted phones since my Note 3 in 2013. I'm hanging onto my Note 4s to the bitter end when they pull the plug on them. Now I'm configuring (rooting) my n986u1 in preparation.

They have made some improvements to android to appease rooters such as sleeping, and deep sleeping apps... one time permissions, ability to delete apps that could not be deleted before. But, it's not nearly as good as root.

This site provides the evolution of n986u1 updates:

It appears that DUB5 is the in-between update with 3.1 yet 1 bootloader. I hate to assume that it's safe to update to DUB5 without maintaining the ability to ulock the bootloader. The BL unlock service recommends staying on 3.0. Do you now if going to DUB5 prevents (or relocks) the BL unlock? Should I update to DUB5 before or after BL unlock?

Damn battery life still outstanding, this from the other night 🌙 Over 10 hrs SOT 12% this phone is definitely a beast.
I don't know how in God's name you're getting such amazing SOT. I'm only able to get about 1/2 of what you're getting.

Apologies for the late response. I rooted my note when I was still on Android 10. I then updated my phone as per the steps that Kangi26 gave us. When I update from one UI 3.0 to 3.1 my root status did work but not 100% of the time. Some application couldn't get root access or crash. You can always downgrade back to 3.0 as long as you don't go over to bootloader 2. As you mention before, android has been updated with many features that gives us more control of the apps and can put them into deep sleep or you can always use adb to uninstall apps that you don't want. I hardly use root now but I like having it. ;)

Thanks for that. It ended my frustration of uncertainty about - to 3.1 or not to 3.1-

I will be happy with 3.0

Anyone else itching to upgrade to the Pixel 6 pro after today's announcement?

Now that it's "the morning after" the Pixel launch. Since the 512 P6Pro is totally sold out, I think I'm going to hold off until we start to see some of the reviews (although I suspect it's going to be a GREAT device). I think I need more time to really think more about whether or not I can live without an S-Pen. I really like what I've seen about the 6Pro but no pen........

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra
If I was getting anywhere close to Venom0642's SOT, I would not even consider it at this point. Better battery life and lack of bluetooth codecs is the only thing lacking in our N20 Ultra making it shy of absolute perfection IMHO.

Maybe Venom0642 can share with us in detail how he's getting such incredible battery life so this way we can keep the $900 in our pocket :)

You are right on that one Kangi26. I was just comparing prices online as well. Look at Amazon but they don't offer the 512GB version as of right now.

See Post #2 and #3 for the Links to the Firmware
ALL of the firmware posted here can be flashed on any N986U/N986U1 Device. The firmware is NOT carrier dependent and is only listed next to some of them in order to have an idea if you might get OTA when you flash it

    Understanding Firmware naming:

    N986USQU1ATGM
    N=Note
986U or F etc, the model of device
SQ, FX etc = CPU and model specific
U,S,E = Update, Security, Engineering, respectively
1,2,3,4,5 etc = bootloader revision (This is important! You cannot go to a previous revision)
    A,B,C,D = Android version
    T, U = Year (T=2020, U=2021 etc)
    A,B,C etc = month (January A - December L)
1 - 9 and then A - Z =build compilation. This basically means how many builds there are in a month. They start at 1 and go to Z
    So N986USQU1ATGM would be
    N968-U-SQ-U-1-A-T-G-M
    N968U (Note 20 Ultra Carrier version), SQ (Snapdragon), U (Update), 1 (Bootloader version), A (Build 10), T (2020), G (July), M (22nd build)

    How to enter Download Mode:
    Turn off the device.
Connect USB cable to your PC (Leave it disconnected from the phone)
Press and hold down the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons. While they are still pressed, plug in the USB cable into your phone.
The phone will go into download mode press volume up. In Odin you will see that phone is added.

    Dirty Flash:
I would only do this if you are having to manually update to the newer firmware and would not do it if you are coming/going to U/U1 or from beta firmware or if you are on an old firmware. I'd also highly recommend doing a back up prior to the doing this
    Load these into Odin
    BL
    AP
    CP
    HOME_CSC
Do NOT flash CSC or USERDATA, either of these WILL wipe your device
This is a "dirty flash" and these can sometimes cause issues. Keep in mind if things start going sideways and stuff starts not working right, your first step to a solution will be to wipe the device.

    Tips on flashing U1 Firmware:
You will have to wipe, can NOT dirty Flash going between U and U1 firmware
Use the patched ODIN linked in post #2 or #3, Odin3_v3.13.3b (They are exactly the same)
Have an active US Carrier SIM installed to get carrier features

If you get your CSC Stuck on XAA/XAA/(Insert your carrier here), and can not get Carrier options back.
Go to the tutorial that @borijess put together HERE

Just a little heads up to everyone. When Android 12 drops for U1, I'll be removing the Beta stuff since we wont need it any longer. I try to keep things a little clean and tidy 😁
