I don't see AVG8 for U on Samfw.

I'm seeing AVG8 for Xfinity and Comcast on Sam snagged a copy with Frija and just flashed it no problems

I don't think it matters which carrier version you flash as long as its the same device hardware region. For instance you can flash any US carrier U if you want to stay U or U1 if you want to stay U1. I've done it before no problems. As long as your flash includes the Home CSC you won't reset or loose or change your carrier data settings it pulls your particular carrier data from your sim and eSIM just don't flash the included data file and if your on a AT&T U and you flash the Xfinity file you will still keep your AT&T data and AT&T bootup screen. So no need to wait till the A&T one drops. If I'm wrong or missing anything that applies directly to AT&T someone please chime in and correct me

I have a Verizon phone that I just converted from Stock carrier U to U1 to then flash the new UI 5 beta. I've done it before on either my Note 20 Ultra ot Note 10+. I always in that instance flash CSC. Going from U to U1 you want to wipe. To avoid issue. But even with the wipe, the way U1 works is once it boots and sees your Sim card, it loads your carrier stuff. So I still have my Verizon Boot animation, wifi calling and HD video and phone calls between Verizon customers. I just don't have all the bloatware that comes with the stock U firmware. Now when updates come out or I'm flashing between firmwares on the same U1 platform, I would use CSC home to avoid wipe because it really isn't needed in that instance. I'll only go CSC when I flash back to Stock U when it becomes fully available on U, warranty issue or if I trade my phone in.

I guess it's a carrier thing. That sucks. I don't want to flash to U1 and have to do a clean install.

It's because the beta is a U1 firmware. It's is safe to flash without wipe. Locked U is different. Same if the beta going around was for U. Then flashing to a U1 based phone would one require you the be on U, then flash. It's the switching from U to U1 and visa versa that is requiring the wipe. Not actually the update

I was wondering the same thing. Those of us the sideloaded the beta probably will not get an update Ota since we are not registered...but I could be wrong

no we would need to adb sideload all the updates

No difference in battery life for me on Beta

Give me a little bit fellas. I'm flashing back to AVG6..will do a minimum setup with a few apps. Then I will sideload again to see if data wipes

So I flashed back to AVG6 At&t(Firstnet) locked U firmware. Setup a few apps. Sideload the update.zip Beta...data was wiped.

I think because you went from U to U1 (beta is U1 based) try being on U1 4.1 and put some stuff on, then flash update. I think it should update without wipe.

My device is carrier locked. I think it wipes because it's not updating via ota as it would if I actually signed up for the beta

Verizon is rolling out the August update to the locked S22 variants FWIW.
