In my car the computer tells me that I get about 5 MPG better than I actually get.

I think the bars in the notification bar is the same. I tend to ignore them...If you aren't getting dropped phone calls than i wouldn't worry about it.

I am not seeing much difference in 4.4

What I have noticed - It seems the status icons (wifi, 4g, battery etc..) have been changed to black and white from having some color. I don't like this. Can the Icon Glossary be changed without root?

I'm not rooted and got the update OTA 2 days ago. After 2 days with kitkat battery life for me is way worse. I lost 54% battery last night with data and wifi turned off. No idea what could've drained it. I read in one of the reviews for Note 3 kitkat, that a full factory reset after the update fixes the battery drain issue. I may try that this weekend if it doesn't clear up by then.

The kitkat dialer is only Nexus & GPE phones. Samsung has their own dialer.

But on the plus side, the phone is noticeably faster with kitkat. Google Now Launcher works fine, and also makes the phone a bit faster as well. On 4.3, when clicking the Google microphone, there was a couple second pause before the "Speak Now" prompt came up. Now, it's there instantly. To get the Google Now Launcher I created a backup of the recently updated version on my Nexus 7 and transferred it to my phone and installed. Everything works

I figured Samsung or Verizon is the one that changed the dialer. Some people like the Kit Kat one and some people hate it.

I am not seeing much difference with my battery life at all. I keep mine plugged in all night and at certain times through my day at work. I went to my brothers yesterday and cell signals at his place is just about non-existent and my past phones would die there with a quickness...My Note 3 did really well there and i didn't notice a drain at all. This weekend will be a true test as I am away from charging ports much more often.

That is pretty bad.. I'm still on 4.3 and this is mine with 1 hour 16 minutes screen on time:

My battery was pretty much the same as yours when I was on 4.3. I would typically get 24 hrs with around 6hrs screen time. So far kitkat isn't even half that. Maybe it needs a few days to settle in. IDK...

Direct dial widgets & Google Now Launcher

Do you use direct dial widgets with the Google Now Launcher? I keep getting "App not installed" when I try to use them on my home screen. I've done a bit of research about it and it's the Samsung dialer that's causing the problem but I haven't been able to find a way to get the direct dial widgets to work. Contact widgets and direct text widgets work so I've been making do by using contact widgets but would rather use direct dial widgets.

Yea I actually tried to update to kit kat but it failed I believe because I've used safestrap in the past... Honestly.. I'm glad it did fail. Battery life is one of the most important things to me and on 4.3 it's outstanding.

So far, I like the changes that Kit Kat brings to the Note 3. It fixed a few things for me, but messed up a few things as well.

Intermittently, when I try to turn the screen on, there is a full 3 second lag between me pushing the button and the screen actually coming on. Didn't do this before.

Also, when I'm finished with a phone call, I pull the phone away from my head to tap "end" and the screen fails to turn itself on. If I hit the power button to turn on the screen, it turns on, but by that point the other cashier had already hung up.

Could these two issues be related? Anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks

I'm happy to report my battery is back to normal. I went thru all the settings one by one and found numerous things that I had disabled before were turned on after the update. Several Google Now options that I don't use, were turned on. A secondary account that I have on my phone that I keep sync off completely until I need it, was set to sync. And several other random settings, but I think the ones I mentioned were the biggest problems draining the battery.

I'm not experiencing any screen issues. The screen turns on immediately when I click either the power or home button. It comes on instantly when I take the phone away from my head during a call.

Now that I've got this battery thing straightened out, I'm loving my phone again. And kitkat makes it run better than ever. Transitions & Animations are faster and smoother. Things open quicker and more fluid. And it's nice having the Google camera...
There's really no good reason to not update...

Basic Visual Voice Mail

So "Basic" Visual Voicemail is now "free" after the update, eh? Cool. That's the first thing I noticed.

Says you can have up to 20 3-minute phone calls stored. Buh-bye Google Voice...1 less app I need to have installed now.

Groovy.

Although I just set it up (removed my Google Voice) and during setup - it said something about "trial for Premium Visual Voice Mail"...so I logged into my account - went to Features - add the "Basic Visual Voice Mail" which was free - and it removed the Premium trial automatically...they almost got me there!

And no one mentioned emoji's - those are always fun...

Why does it matter what phone they are showing? The title says it's the Kit Kat dialer...it doesn't say Nexus dialer.
Because the note 3 has a skinned OS from Samsung. It is not a vanilla android experience. Many of the native android apps have been changed as Samsung sees fit. It is only found on the nexus 5.
